Wait a minute... I thought you said you were leaving! Guess the promise of being able to chop people up in cruel and unusual new ways pulled you back in.
I did leave. And like any poor sap addicted to his crackaine, I came crawling back for another fix.
Be well, people of CoH.
I support OP 100%. No matter what physical blades you choose its still just lethal damage. Therefore, the change is only cosmetic. And if you were going to add energy or psychic melee attacks why make them blades? Be creative.
THANK YOU OP for your bravery!!!!!!
To all the people spouting off about the majority have voted for dual blades....I have only one word for you. Shields.
Sigh. Tarmak just has no clue about much of anything does he? The idea that something is blunt makes it less lethal? HA HA HA HAHA! God one. Seriously. No. Wrong. A shaolin monk with a bo staff could easily kill a swordsman any day of the week.
I also don't see this moron crying about fire powers? What about Guns? What about super strength punches that crush bone with each punch?
Get over yourself and your need to be a marytr. Take yourself off the cross, its not flattering.

Yet another silly point when hints were dropped that a completely new mechanism was being put in place that may add other types of damage to the blades.

I'd say there are more precedents for dual blade-wielding comic book characters than for clawed ones or hammer users. I can't think of any mace-users offhand, but there might be one.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah, about that. Other than Wolverine, is there even ONE other character in a comic book anywhere to use claws from the hands? I'm seriously asking here, because I don't know of any.
[/ QUOTE ]
As in, the metal claws that come out of your wrists as opposed to finger nail style claws like Saber Tooth, Wolfsbane, Feral, Wildchild etc?

... like I need a hole in the head.
Ever since dual blades was "announced" I've been racking my brain trying to think of heroes that would use a pair of knives to arrest criminals. I Haven't thought of one. Looking back on all those comic books that I collected as a kid, the only one I can remember using a blade of any kind was the Black Knight (Sorry Electra uses two Sais... they don't have blades).
The way I see it, there are more comic book heroes that use boomerangs, then those that use broad swords, katanas, battle axes, maces, and dual blades combined.
"But Tarmac, the people voted for dual blades!"
So what. The people voted for Nixon (twice). The people voted to kill Socrates. The people said O.J. was innocent. In other words, the people are morons.
Statesman, im calling you out. This power set has NOTHING to do with comic book heroes. Sure it's fine in WoW, EQ, and LotR, but those are sword and sorcery games, this is a super hero game. States, do the right thing, suck it up and make dual blades a CoV only power. Come up with a power for heroes that fits the bill and makes use feel like the good guys. Not some knife wielding, blood thirsty villain.

Well, lots of people voting for a set that was clearly marked as being difficult to actually produce due to animation time requirements should not be surprised that the set with the asterisk was not produced.

Shields though is a VERY specific power that only one character I know of uses: Captain America. So I can see why that wouldn't be included when its a pretty obvious infringment/ripoff. I'd rather they NOT include shields so actually that whole wah wah wahing about shileds and the "people" is WRONG! I wouldn't vote for such a blatant ripoff power of Cap, ever.
There are other chars who use claws besides wolverine. Its how they made them look hero side that was the problem. EXACTLY like Wolverine's claws, complete with snickt like sound effect. Pretty lame and unoriginal. I would have liked more like Sabretooth or Lady Deathstrike with really long fingernail like claws instead.
Personally I think all the weapons powers should be merged down to / split into two:
Melee
Ranged.
And then give you a costume design like tool to custom skin whatever you want your weapon to look like.

Please.. just... look up power customization for your answer.
There's all of zero need to have more than one melee weapon power in the game, and more than one ranged. Game effects can be identical - all that matters between them is the animation.

...Right, because theres absolutely no difference between wielding a sword and wielding a mace, or between firing a gun and shooting with a bow and arrow. [/sarcasm]

Wow I would totally quit this game. See ya variety, lets all have the same powers BECAUSE!!!!
EDIT: Also wanted to address, BaB said dual blades will be PRIMARILY lethal. Still leaves TONS of room for a (hopefully) energy portion. For those of you that want psi, think of this: Lethals main enemys are robots. Psys main enemys are robots. It would change nothing since both damage types are resisted 50% by bots.

This isn't the point you were making, but this did remind me of something.
Some people complaining about dual blades mention other sets that are very niche that should have gone in the game instead. Yet they use "nobody used them" as a reason for not including dual blades.
The anti dual blade nonsense boils down to some people being jealous that their power set didn't get made first.

While what you say makes a lot of sense, I also feel that there are already a lot of bladed weapons in the game. Why no staff set? Why no other-type-of-energy-melee?
Don't get me wrong - I am psyched that they're putting a lot of work into making the set have a feel all its own, It just seems a little too specific.

While I will be happy to try out dual blades..
I hear ya.
A staff set would have owned, and I would like for scrappers and tankers to share attack sets at the least.. energy melee/sr scrapper would be fun to try.
Sadly, set sharing is happening when hell freezes over, but that is a different topic.

I'm not saying give scrappers energy melee per se... I was thinking, however, that it'd be cool to give scrappers and brutes radiation melee, or even some sort of luminous melee.
The thing is, it is pretty common in comics to have a character that wraps his or her hands in some sort of energy or substance, (be it fire, psychic energy, radiation, etc), and attack w/ it.
I just hope that energy blades are neither light sabre rip offs, nor very similar to the Vanguard energy claws. I'm hoping they are a sort of morph-blade that forms into different shapes depending upon the attack you use - so one may be a standard sword slash, and another may have it form into a stiletto you stab with...

The vote again. Well lets be clear on this. "The people" voted for shields, yet we aren't going to get them, so Cryptic has already set the precedent . Just because "the people" voted for something doesn't take away Statesman's veto power.
[/ QUOTE ]
[censored]. The people voted in two separate categories - offensive and defensive. Dual Blades won the offensive vote, Shields won the defensive vote. Except shields came with a very big warning saying the effect "will probably not happen soon even if they win." So they won, and it didn't happen.
If you need a reason, then look up BaBs' post on the matter. He explained that they did Dual Blades right, so they only had the opportunity to do a defence set that was light on graphics, which was Will Power. In another post, BaBs explains just what a pain in the [censored] making Shield Defence is and that for that reason alone, it's not likely to show up very soon, but will probably show up eventually.
Have you actually seen any of the developer posts on the matter or are you just having fun shouting wolf?
