RFC on Third Tray Keybinds

As long as I can rebind it to the way it is now, I have no issues with it.

EDIT: Wait a sec, so if you make a "Classic" or "Original" profile just to store those binds the way they are now, would the current changes the individual made to their keybinds carry over to the "Classic" profile as well?

I ask this because many if not most of us have bound more keys than just those few, and will either have to rebind their own keys again or rebind these, making the decision to make a new Profile superfluous.

Would it be possible to make our own profiles and save them and be able to access them from the options menu? I am aware of the current /bind_save /bind_load commands, but it would be very nice if there was a graphical interface as it's much more user-friendly.

Would it be possible to do a

/power_lock

or some such to lock powers into positions. I tend to be a clicking fiend during some fights and have powers set in specific orders in my trays. I would like to be able to keep them in that order until i choose to change them insted of accidentally dragging and dropping them or switching them with another power during an intense combat.

Would that be difficult to add?

Here's another idea which would be even nicer than having a third tray available:

Create a new bind command which allows us to bind a tray to a power. E.g. whenever the Dark Nova toggle is active, goto to tray #x.

I realize players can "manually" create a similar bind, but it gets broken by stuff such as stun/sleep/hold; and an official one makes it acciessible to more players.

Make it so.

One other solution LOCK TRAY.

I have numerous times hit the stupid arrow switching trays while fighting and had to quickly scroll back to the Tray.

I have no problem with this proposed change.

There are some who use it, however, who would hate to have to rebind those keys.

[/ QUOTE ]

Isn't it as simple as saving your binds as they are now?

For those who have an issue with having to reassign your binds all you have to do is /bind_save before the change goes in; and then /bind_load afterwords. Also have a look at /bind_save_file and /bind_load_file if you need to do this for multiple heroes.

I like the proposals. I certainly rarely use the ctrl+num binds, but I do use the shift+num binds quite frequently - as a FF Defender I often spend my time buffing every teammate in order every 4 mins and if I'm chugging back some juice with my mousing hand when that happens, it's nice to be able to do the whole thing on the keyboard. Of course, whatever the change, a player can set their own binds if they don't like the defaults.

[/ QUOTE ]

I've got my keyboard so heavily remapped, I have no clue what the original mapping is like anyway. I've got my tray slots linked to the F keys, with Alt-F# handling my second tray. I've got the number keys across the top bound to team selections, and for my Ice/FF controller alt, I have some binds set up for double-bubbling each teammate as I select them. I hit their team number, then hit the A key, and it tosses both bubbles on them. Found the bind in this thread:

bubble bind

[ QUOTE ]
I especially like the idea of adding little numbers to the team list. Counting teammates during AV fight = brain hurting.

[/ QUOTE ]

I gotta say, I love that idea, too.

Good to hear. My Controller has 4 more powers than fit in 2 trays so I have to keep deciding on which powers I will only have binds for or not ever use. I worked hard for that stupid freeze pistol only to find I have nowhere to put it.

I am all for it poz. Making two different bind schemes is definately player friendly and the right move in my book.

hmmmm, currently, I use the numpad for tray 2 and the numkeys for tray one

having a 3rd tray wouldn't suck as far as I'm concerned, I already have to have some powers set to easy to reach keys like Y and C or B, ect...

I'm down for a 3rd row. Just reprogram to be numpad for tray 2 or 3 and there you go. Makes sense to me anyway.

Same set-up here.

A 3rd tray would be great.

How about making the health bar go purple on anyone's name who has a hold/sleep/ect on them so we can easily see who is being held in the Team Buff Window?

[/ QUOTE ]

Oh, yes, please. It's a bit amusing that the way you find out your teammates are sleeping in big fights is that they yell out "zzz" in team chat.

I also like the idea of some sort of timer for buffs. One possibility might be a player-defined stopwatch that we can set to whatever time we'd like, be it the time it'll take until our FF bubbles run out, how long it is until RA comes back up, length of time until MoG runs out, etc.

I (and i may not be alone here) would *loooove* to see would be some kind of indicator next to teammate buff icons letting us know how long they have got to run. Maybe make the buff icons 'recede' (kind of like the reverse animation for how the icons 'recharge' in our trays), or have a timer line around the circumference of the icon, that runs out etc...

[/ QUOTE ]

And/or a timer that will pop up when you mouse over it, or at least when you right click it.

Heck, while we're changing things like that let me change my hp and end bars to numbers so I can see if that tank *really* knocked me down to 1 hit point before I escaped.

To go even further, let everything in the gui be changeable between graphical, text and both. This can help ease the transition between alts, or after those respecs which mess up my tray.

I'll have to try, when I get home, to make the tray smaller, if I can. I'd like to see if it'll make the icons smaller. If not, I'd like that option for us keyboard-users.

I'd like the icons to be able to go as small as those displayed towards the top where all buffs/debuffs/toggles/autos show.

sounds like a great additon. thanks for taking the time.

[ QUOTE ]
The idea is to add a new one named Classic or Original. To get the keys back the way you are used to, all you would need to go to the Controls page of Options and select the profile you want from the pulldown on the right side. This is sticky for each hero. Although not optimal for you, perhaps, is it acceptable?

[/ QUOTE ]

Maybe this isn't a new idea, maybe it's already possible, as I'm no bind-guru, but I'd rather an import option. That is, when you want to modify an existing bind like these new proposals, you have a file containing only the new bindings.

/import_bindings 3rd-tray-binds.txt

This would take binds for ctl+# and add them to whichever bind file being used for the character, overwriting whatever they currently have in there for those keys.

This would make the change entirely optional, and more convenient for those with heavily modified bind files.

I like the idea of a third tray. Not sure how often I'd specifically need it, but if it was an option, I'd probably spread out anyway. And I think using ctrl to access it is a superb idea. I wouldn't mind if if was shift either (I just click on the names with my Empath) but since so many people already use that, I'd suggest leaving shift alone.

Biggest downside I see at the moment is that it'll occlude yet more of the playing area. Because of that, it'd be nice to be able to hide the second and third trays separately.

As for shape shifters, I've just started one this week. I put all my Dark Nova powers into tray 9 and set up a bind to change form and tray simultaneously, plus a bind to change back.

While you are adding stuff to the request list, how about a couple of slash commands to cycle through teammates?

/team_select_prev and /team_select_next

If no teammate is selected, _next could select the first one, and _prev the last one.

Oh, and when you roll this out, please don't reset everyone's binds back to the default. One way to retro the ctrl+# would be to just merge those binds in, but only if the default bindings were still there.

Oh, and here are some bind files to switch between the two ctrl+# schemes for those who want to do so:

c:\cohbinds\ctrlswitch.txt
[ QUOTE ]

ctrl+1 "goto_tray 1"
ctrl+2 "goto_tray 2"
ctrl+3 "goto_tray 3"
ctrl+4 "goto_tray 4"
ctrl+5 "goto_tray 5"
ctrl+6 "goto_tray 6"
ctrl+7 "goto_tray 7"
ctrl+8 "goto_tray 8"
ctrl+9 "goto_tray 9"
ctrl+0 "goto_tray 10"

[/ QUOTE ]

Assuming powexec_ctrlslot as the slash command:
c:\cohbinds\ctrlpowers.txt
[ QUOTE ]

ctrl+1 "powexec_ctrlslot 1"
ctrl+2 "powexec_ctrlslot 2"
ctrl+3 "powexec_ctrlslot 3"
ctrl+4 "powexec_ctrlslot 4"
ctrl+5 "powexec_ctrlslot 5"
ctrl+6 "powexec_ctrlslot 6"
ctrl+7 "powexec_ctrlslot 7"
ctrl+8 "powexec_ctrlslot 8"
ctrl+9 "powexec_ctrlslot 9"
ctrl+10 "powexec_ctrlslot 10"

voting for changing ctrl+# ... personally i have never used more than 2 trays. on the other hand i almost always use the shift+# to pick teammates (and yes, i am definitely appreciative of you adding numbers by their names)

btw, while i'm here, is there any way you make it so i can see my own info just like i do on other people? maybe its just me but i like to be able to just see a nice page with all the badges and powers showing (rather than having to page thru 5 different lists)

Well, looks like the train has left the station, but I agree with MintCondition. Once you have several trays full of powers -- e.g., once you have a shape-shifting Kheldian -- cntrl-# is very useful for switching between pre-arranged trays and keeping the proper powers readily accessible with a single (left) hand while the right hand continues to work the mouse.

Custom binds might retain such a design, but custom binds are always cumbersome, neither understood well nor implemented often by the majority of player population, and still somewhat unpredictable as to when and where they will function properly.

[/ QUOTE ]
Odd, I find binding C, V, and B to switch to Nova form/tray 9, switch to Dwarf form/tray 8, and switch to human form/activate shield/tray 1 respectively to be substantially less cumbersome than changing the tray separately. (Note that if you get mezzed back into human form, all you need to do is hit the switch-to-human-form macro and tray 1 pops right up.) Single keytouch selecting, no messing around with control keys.

[ QUOTE ]
Frankly, when i wish to target a team-mate, I have always found clicking on their name in the team list to be more efficient than shift-#, since a single mouse-click requires less coordination than a simultaneous double keystroke, which often forces your attention from screen to keyboard.

[/ QUOTE ]
But if you're a touch-typist, your attention should be halfway on your keyboad anyway. I find it a simple matter to stab the shift with my pinky and hit 1-8 with some other finger on my left hand as necessary. I may not even have my mouse pointer on the screen when I need to select a teammate for some reason; I steer around battle by mouselook and target with tab and mouse button 4 (bound to select_enemy_nearest). (I hardly ever use my trays for clicking on, either; I put my most-used powers in the bottom tray and /bind some, then use numbers and bind keystrokes as necessary.)

Now granted, I don't need to select teammates with the shift keys all that often, as I tend to have heals and buffs bound to the keypad or control/alt/shift plus keypad. But there are only four keypad/chord-keypad options available, which means that my Emp Defender has to use shift-number to select someone for less-often-used powers like Adrenaline Boost or Recall Friend; likewise, if I want to use the "give to target" dialogue or hit comma for "/tell $target", I need to make the selection first.

ME too, I use them all the time. I don't exactly LIKE the idea, but as long as I can rebind it to the way I like it, oh well. Although it will be a pain in the [censored] to rebind all over for every new character

[/ QUOTE ]

Given I'm the left-handed weirdo that uses the numpad for movement and mouse in the left hand, I saved my "every character" binds into a file and just /bind_load_file every new character.

Still a bother, but not so much of one.

Just sounding off for /slash commands to select the alt and ctrl trays. I would like to see this as well.

Sounds good to me.

But can we also have /slash commands to switch the alt tray and ctrl trays as well? Only /prev_tray_alt and /next_tray_alt exist for the alt tray currently. I'd really like to see a /goto_tray_alt as well as a /goto_tray_ctrl, /next_tray_ctrl, and /prev_tray_ctrl.
