RFC on Third Tray Keybinds

I haven't really needed 3 power trays, but that's probably because I rework about once a month to adjust with new powers. Numerous threads have brought this up and I'm happy for them to see that this is planned, and heck it'll probably make my life easier by not having to switch around my binds so often.

I also agree that shift+# should stay the same, I use that all the time for refreshing bubbles/speed boost.

I don't like control+# as it stands, I find using the arrow keys is much more precise. However, I would like to see the ability to swith the 2nd (and future 3rd) trays without having to do so by mouse (unless this feature is already live and I just haven't figured out how to do it).

The only time I've ever used the ctrl-# combination is several times by accident and then dying because my tray changed and I was too busy realising what happend while I was beaten to death to realise, and when I did it was too late.
Yeah... Get rid of that bind, will you?

And having the Team Mates each have #s is a good idea. Do it!

So your saying....

3 trays now?

WOOT!!! Bring it, I dont care what key strokes you hook it up with, this is long over due!!!

THANK YOU!

I've found that sometimes the CTRL key is the bane of my existence! Here I am trying to use my tray and instead the ctrl key switches it to tray 9 which has absolutely no powers in them.

I'm all for this change, it can definitely save a few headaches later down the road.

Oh yes, and the numbers by the team name is a very good idea.

Adding the third bar would take away the need for me to use the control key to wtitch between my 2nd and 3rd bars so go ahead and re-bind it

However I can't believe that during your testing you found that shift+# wasn't used alot. Like others on here I'm a /empath and I use shift + # constantly. During large battles using your mouse to click takes far too long and is hard when the battles are super hectic. Of course the numbers are gonna be a good help I know sometimes when a member's # changes my brain doesn't adknowledge it right away

I like this plan. All I use Ctrl+Num for is the scorecards, and I almost never actually do it anymore. So, go for it. Sounds like a good plan.

Do the damn thing... No problems here ...

Hmmmm...well I do sometimes use the ctrl+num keys to change the tray after it has inadvertantly been changed to something else in the middle of a fight, but I'm thinking that generally happens because the ctrl key was hit by accident in the first place.

Sounds good to me, poz.

Agreed on your reasoning all round, and very happy to hear a third tray is coming. The only possible use I could think I'd have for tray-switching at the moment is for shapeshifters, and if I really wanted to shift trays like that, I'd probably bind them to something more convenient anyway. Ctrl+number is much more intuitive for a power use than for tray switching, IMHO.

As long as you leave shift+# alone I'm good with it.

And thanks, for letting us know the 3rd tray cometh.

Parfait!

I have extensively remapped my keyboard and have a unique set of binds for each of my characters. I use the ctrl+number system to access other trays constantly. Please do not change this system or I shall be forced to rewrite a dozen keybind files and that would make me sad.

Might I suggest the tilde key to access terciary power-trays?

I think you'll find that key is used far less then the ctrl key.

This sounds like a good solution, with one big but, that is to NOT change the binds for already existing characters unless invoked from a option or slashcommand.
i use the ctrl+# keys all the time, bound to custom binds.
Most usually to select a teammate and execute a power.
(for instance, pressing ctrl+3 executes speed boost on teammate nr3 onmy kin defender).

When we are on the subject, how about a "sticky" version of trayselect.
a slashcommand that "sticks" to alt-tray without actually switching places on the trays
meaing that pressing but not holding alt would put you in alt-tray mode, pressing again to put back in bottom tray mode, and now ctrl to stick in 3rd tray mode etc.

Getting lots of handcramps on some toons which uses 1-5, and alt 1-5, and all the of QWEASDZXCRFVT

yes i use a lot of binds

The addition of the 3rd tray and it's suggested bindings sound great.

Agreed. Third tray and numbered teammates sound very helpful.

BTW: My left shift is bount to "target nearest enemy." So I never used those two-key commands.

My second tray is my toggles (visual glance to orchestrate what's on.) and my first tray is my number-key powers.

I use Ctrl+Number quite a bit, but only for a couple of specialized items that could easily move to the 3rd tray, or be used with a keybind and /goto_tray. Defintiely make the change. Thanks for asking for input.

That sounds fine to me.
In fact, I'm not sure that shift+number is all that great. The purpose it serves--selecting teammates--is wonderful, but that implementation leaves something to be desired.
Either you need to select it fast, like right now, or else they'll die, or else you just need to follow them, in which case clicking is usually fine.

Here is what I use for my emp defender (and a similar one for other support types). 1-8 on the numpad are all teammates, and all the surrounding keys are various heals and buffs:
numpad1 "team_select 1"
numpad2 "team_select 2"
numpad3 "team_select 3"
numpad4 "team_select 4"
numpad5 "team_select 5"
numpad6 "team_select 6"
numpad7 "team_select 7"
numpad8 "team_select 8"
NUMLOCK "powexec_name Dark Pit"
DIVIDE "powexec_name Recovery Aura"
MULTIPLY "powexec_name Regeneration Aura"
SUBTRACT "powexec_name Adrenalin Boost"
ADD "powexec_name Clear Mind"
NUMPADENTER "powexec_name Heal Other"
DECIMAL "powexec_name Absorb Pain"
numpad9 "powexec_name Fortitude"
numpad0 "powexec_name Healing Aura"

I guess I'm the only one that uses Ctrl-# to change trays.

I use shift+# a LOT, especially when playing my empathy defender, but also with my other characters. On the other hand, I made a point of unbinding control+# after a while, because the effects were so disruptive.

I bind almost all of my powers to shift+letter or control+letter already, though (on an esdf base), so adding a third tray won't do a lot for me. I absolutely will not miss the control+# keybinds, however.

Sometimes I do wish that I could make the power trays smaller, though, and having a third tray open would only make that worse. An option for half-size icons would be great.

ctrl as default sounds good to me.

Could we also make bigger trays? With 10, 11, 12... powers? If I could change its horizontal size it would help too (not sure if it can't be done right now).

I won't speak for others, just myself. But as an empath with many buffer alts, I never use the shift + num OR the ctrl + num. I have everything binded (bound?) to regular keys. BUT, now with my Kheld, i'm changing the way I bind as well as really looking forward to a 3rd tray of powers.

This is why I love this game. You guys are great!! Any and all of the changes you mentioned would just make things better for me /em two thumbs up.

I think it is a fine idea and have no problems with rebinding the default function to lctrl+# for the third power tray. Great idea and great addition Thanks guys!
