RFC on Third Tray Keybinds
Awesome. That's all I gotta say about this. Awesome.

It is generally thought that the addition of the numbers to the team window is a good thing.

I like this idea!

Most of you seem OK with the proposed changes to lctrl+number. There are some who use it, however, who would hate to have to rebind those keys. You should not have to do that; the plan is to create a new keybind profile. As of today, there has only been one keybind profile: Default. The idea is to add a new one named Classic or Original. To get the keys back the way you are used to, all you would need to go to the Controls page of Options and select the profile you want from the pulldown on the right side. This is sticky for each hero. Although not optimal for you, perhaps, is it acceptable?

Since I am clearly in the minority here I cant hope to have my precious ctrl key left as is. I do like your solution, Poz. If this is adopted I would be happier.
Sadly I will have to rewrite my keybinds cfg regardless due ot the amount of custom keymapping I've done. I'll adapt.

Wait, we were allowed to make suggestions?
Ok I would also like the ability to 'undock' each power tray as well as the ability to display the tray vertically rather than horizontally (so I can put it on the right side of the screen, instead of along the bottom). Actually I would like to see this last with the enhancement tray as well, and maybe even the tray with HP, xp and end
Sounds good to me, especially putting the #s next to names in the team window.
How about making the health bar go purple on anyone's name who has a hold/sleep/ect on them so we can easily see who is being held in the Team Buff Window?
Also, please, take auto power icons OUT of the team window. Maybe even give us an option to choose if we want to see other player's auto powers, self buffs, toggles, ect or not. The window gets very cluttered making it hard to tell who has what buff on them and therefor who I need to rebuff.
Also it would be nice to have the health bar of anyone who CAN NOT be healed (like MoG players) grey. I'm always freaking out trying to heal them when their health drops. :P

I know it's a bit OT but these are really great suggestions, I would definitely like to see something like that.
That's awesome to hear, thanks poz.

The bind_save/bind_load commands wouldn't help...?
If you remove shift-number for teammates, I'd just rebind it.
I don't use and don't like ctl-number. In fact I un-bound them to keep from accidentally switching trays and hosing myself up.
3 trays I like, however as an old time AC mage, I have to say I really really did like their interface, especially considering your average mage had probably 100 spells or more slotted at any given time (actually, probably closer to 150-200). 5 (later, 7) tabs. insert/pageup move between tabs. delete/pagedown switch what you're sitting on to activate. cntl-key means "first of whatever", "end" ment "cast spell". Oh and the # of slots in a tab was infinite and number keys 1-0 activated spells as you'd expect.
Probably wouldn't work so well in CoH since you don't just spam a debuff or two then only one spell at the enemy till it's dead. Unless you're a burn tank. ;-)

The suggestion for /goto_tray which works for the other trays has been put on the short-list. That should have been there all along and has been an oversight.

YES! Finally! Ty! Ty! Ty!
Would it be possible to do a
/power_lock
or some such to lock powers into positions. I tend to be a clicking fiend during some fights and have powers set in specific orders in my trays. I would like to be able to keep them in that order until i choose to change them insted of accidentally dragging and dropping them or switching them with another power during an intense combat.
Would that be difficult to add?

Not that I'm ever so uncoordinated I switch my powers rather than activating them *shifty eyes*.... no siree...
Well, looks like the train has left the station, but I agree with MintCondition. Once you have several trays full of powers -- e.g., once you have a shape-shifting Kheldian -- cntrl-# is very useful for switching between pre-arranged trays and keeping the proper powers readily accessible with a single (left) hand while the right hand continues to work the mouse.
Custom binds might retain such a design, but custom binds are always cumbersome, neither understood well nor implemented often by the majority of player population, and still somewhat unpredictable as to when and where they will function properly.
Frankly, when i wish to target a team-mate, I have always found clicking on their name in the team list to be more efficient than shift-#, since a single mouse-click requires less coordination than a simultaneous double keystroke, which often forces your attention from screen to keyboard.
Therefore, as a general rules, I would prefer not to be forced to make battle and/or tactical decisions through double keystrokes. Double keystrokes should be relegated to before or after battle activities, not during.
Sounds great....thanks!!!

It would be great if we could change the powers bar to a verticle orientation, the same goes for the health bar.
All I use is mouse here so I don't care what you set it too.
I do have another request though that's kinda related.. Can you add a "Don't autocenter camera on power use" option. Moving my mouse off the power trays to right click to hold the camera angle is annoying and will be even more so with a 3rd tray. Well at least to me it's annoying. Sometimes I need to keep the camera out of tree, or those pulsing things in tech maps. If I didn't know better I swear those things are going to give me epilepsy.
I'm probably only 1 of 5 people who want this, but would hope it still gets Dev attention I've only been asking since launch

But can we also have /slash commands to switch the alt tray and ctrl trays as well? Only /prev_tray_alt and /next_tray_alt exist for the alt tray currently. I'd really like to see a /goto_tray_alt as well as a /goto_tray_ctrl, /next_tray_ctrl, and /prev_tray_ctrl.

Indeed!, that would be great for my squiddy bind I was planning on setting up, but then found I couldn't.
Thanks Poz - love the way you guys seem to be constantly thinking about the game, and are actually happy to engage the playerbase when looking for comments/feedback etc...
In the same vein as the numbers next to teammate names (great idea, btw!), and just cause I *really* wanna see those devs sweat at their keyboards - something that I (and i may not be alone here) would *loooove* to see would be some kind of indicator next to teammate buff icons letting us know how long they have got to run. Maybe make the buff icons 'recede' (kind of like the reverse animation for how the icons 'recharge' in our trays), or have a timer line around the circumference of the icon, that runs out etc...
That would be sooo dope/sweet/sick/wicked/mad/bodacious/groovy/coolbananas/fantabulous/tresformidable (choose superlative as appropriate to your region).

Signed. This would be quite useful for shapeshifting, since you could use a macro to shift shape and move to a specific alt tray for each shape.
So far I only use the number 1 to 5 for my primary attacks, and click everything else to use it. It just too cumbersome to start doing keboard gymnastics for the rest.
I agree with the changes suggested, after all if anyone wants something different they could just keybind it. Would suggest an up to date and improved keybinding help section for this to help out those that want it.
The main ability I think that will help me most is just being able to display a third tray.
On a related note, could you make it possible to have the same power visible on multiple trays (if it isn't already possible). What a person could then do is create more than one power layout on different trays, and shift between them as the need arrises. Say for example a combat tray, a travel tray, a fun tray, etc... whatever takes thier fancy.

Good idea, I hate accidently changing powers around during combat.
As to the ctrl-#, I like the proposed changes.

Yes on a third tray -- as you've mentioned, shapeshifters need this badly.
As far as the default binds go, I really don't care: Other than the WASD movement keys and 1-4 power buttons, I don't use the default binds; I actually re-bind over most of the defaults.
I only use CTRL-# to access a 3rd bar... so yeah, while I use it, your change will make it unnecessary. Go Devs!
Ewww... I'll have to stick with the old keybind then and use the third tray as unbound click macros. I use the ctrl-# ALL the time to pop to different tray setups. for 2 main reasons:
1) Shapeshift. I have macros set up in the 0 slots to switch to toggleon the form and switch to the correct tray, and again to toggleoff and switch back. When I use the ctrl-command tho is when I get statused. Then my macros (or any other powers in the tray) don't function and I ctrl-1 to get back to my main tray.
2) I often have a LOT of macros. Team commands, RP comments, etc. Litterally 4 trays worth on some chars. One extra tray isn't going to work and I'm STILL going to have to switch that extra tray anyway.
Solution: Use SHIFT# for tray 3, and bind the TeamSelection to the numpad numbers by default. Its a safer solution than the shift# combo anyway, because if you miss the key-combo for team select, you fire a power, often not a good thing.
Personally, on my defenders I bind my heals to the numpad alone, then my other ally powers to chorded numpad. Alt/Ctrl/Shift. That gives me chord access to 4 powers.
What you need to look at is why the "team_select #$$powexec_name Power" combo doesn't work right. I routinely have to hit the combo twice. The first time it selects, the second time it activates the power.
But I guess I'm outvoted.
