All I use is mouse here so I don't care what you set it too.
I do have another request though that's kinda related.. Can you add a "Don't autocenter camera on power use" option. Moving my mouse off the power trays to right click to hold the camera angle is annoying and will be even more so with a 3rd tray. Well at least to me it's annoying.Sometimes I need to keep the camera out of tree, or those pulsing things in tech maps. If I didn't know better I swear those things are going to give me epilepsy.
I'm probably only 1 of 5 people who want this, but would hope it still gets Dev attentionI've only been asking since launch
-
I get about wanting to "encourage" grouping... and I'm all for it.. I'm about 70/30 on my grouping/soloing. But couldn't you have done that with more group oriented stuff? More (and shorter) Task Forces, Trials, and such? Maybe even group contact missions and leave the generic bosses alone? Put Elite bosses in missions with more than 4 people.. that kind of thing?
And why not a "weakness" instead of an across the board bump. Like what you did with Phantom Army. More hit points, more accuracy, but the same or less damage.
Just some thoughts.. -

Perhaps what is needed is a 'More Information' button on mission acceptance text. The standard mission text would be thematically appropriate to the story being told and would could be vague, misleading or have other surprises, and the More Information button would open a second window which spoils some of the surprise.
[/ QUOTE ]
To quote Statesman elsewhere:
Anytime a Mission has a boss, the mission text SHOULD clearly identify that a boss will appear regardless of the team size entering it (bosses appear in spawns usually if there's 2 or more heroes on a mission map). /Bug it if the text isn't clear. We'll be improving this UI shortly so that there are icons that point out when a mission requires help and when it's solo-able.
So, folks, /bug it if the text isn't clear.
[/ QUOTE ]
Well let me be nasty here for a second.. It's not my job!
Look, when sweeping changes like this are made to the game it's the Devs responsibility to go through and touch every system that's related.. That's their job!! That is unless Statesman has been feeding us BS about this touch every system line he's feed us in the past. I have no problem /bugging things, as they happen, do it all the time, /bug it everytime I have an outdoor "door" mission, or anything that's a bug. I refuse to do the devs work for them. They should make sure all the mission texts are correct, not me. That's not a bug, that's sloppy dev work.
Now if they've done this.. I'll eat crow and never speak of it again.. but they still haven't fixed some of the "simultaneous" one from issue 2 yet. And still random timed ones from release that are still that way.. not one word the description about it being time.. and bam-o..
This is a cop out attitude from the devs and frankly I'm tied of it. Same line the fed us with the simultaneous missions.
Not every kill "whatshisface" and their minions is a boss, but sometimes have a boss before it..
The devs are slowly destroying the ability for most archetypes to solo their missions, and they need to stop.
They want to have group only missions.. fine.. put some new contacts in that do groups.. but quit mucking around with what's already there.
Put Bosses back to normal, make new group contacts, and put elite bosses in there. Got a new class might as well be more than two of them. -
[ QUOTE ]
Yeah... because making the 'find' window so easy and convenient to use, allowing you to find someone near your level, anywhere on the server... made casual grouping so hard.
[/ QUOTE ]
You mean that seek button I hit that never has anyone in it? That one?
[ QUOTE ]
Also, introducing global chat... and adding low-level content, storys, unique missions, trials, and a lowbie zone... those pushed new and casual players right out the door.
[/ QUOTE ]
Oh you mean the Hollows with over powered Outcasts, or the Frostfire story that takes you 20 minutes to get a team of 8 that has to travel 1 mile across a hazard zone with no travel powers, then dies 5 times each and give up.. you mean that story? Or the 3-4 hours to finish the respec trial, even after the massive adjustment they did to it? Sure I've got enough to time to run that every night. Oh yeah and the "unique" superdyne mission.. that's really keeping me interested.. -
[ QUOTE ]
Why dont you stop and think clearly about what Statesman is saying for half a second instead of having a little tantrum on the forums?
[/ QUOTE ]
Why don't you stop and think clearly about what some of the people are saying before you go off ranting..
[ QUOTE ]
City of Heroes is a Massively Multiplayer Online Roleplaying Game. Thats "Massively Multiplayer". You should consider yourself lucky that you can solo at all, considering many MMORPGs do not allow soloing at the higher stages of the games period and have enemies so powerful in such large mobs you must form parties, since you need every classes special abilities to defeat the mobs at those later stages of the game.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes it's a MMORPG, not RGORPG (Required Grouping). I don't care what other games allow or don't. This is City of Heroes. City of Heroes has been billed as "solo friendly" since I first heard about it. However each and every "issue" has taken just a little away from that. With the boss changes coming, and the previous +1 mob increase in missions, you've pretty much eliminated 90% of the door mission form the solo players. Not one single solo player has ever stated that they expect to solo the entire game and every piece of content. What solo players want to be able to go though missions and level up at comfortable pace, without street sweeping.
[ QUOTE ]
Now, the devs here have made great attempts to make sure that the players have enough missions to do so they dont have to do "hunting", which here is called "street sweeping".
[/ QUOTE ]
Honestly, no they haven't. They're working on it now, but it's not there, or any where close yet. If someone exclusively groups, then yes, they will run have more missions then everyone, but that's to be expected.
[ QUOTE ]
You dont have to mindlessly kill enemies for hours on end with no clear agenda in this game.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes you do, you have to all the time. I'm helping a level 38 friend grind his way to 40 so he can get more missions. Guess what we're doing for the next two levels. Plus when these boss changes go into effect, there's no point in him picking up missions anyway as he won't be able to do them. And I'm not even sure our normal running group will be able to handle the new bosses either.
[ QUOTE ]
They designed the mission system, which is really an evolved quest system, so that you can have other players help you complete your quests and they still get rewards as well (big exp/influence boost at completion and badge awarding). They also made it so the "items" gained here are automatically awarded to party members, so there is no argueing or attempts to "loot".
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm not sure what you're point is here.
[ QUOTE ]
You think this is done so you can solo your way through the game? I dont get why you'd even want to, the entire point of playing an online game is to play with other people. Your interaction with other people is the foundation of the game structure, whether its something as simple as online checkers or as complex as CoH is, the point is to play it with other players.
[/ QUOTE ]
The game is not called City of Groups of Heroes. No where on the box, or in the manual, does it say that grouping is the ONLY way I can play and it's required for me to be in a SG to play.
[ QUOTE ]
Now you have already answered your own question when you asked why they have bosses you struggle to defeat solo in all spawned mobs. You know the answer is that they do not really want to encourage soloing because it reduces other players opportunity to find party members.
[/ QUOTE ]
It's already difficult to find people to team with and you think making things tougher is going to make it easer to find a group?? Wow that's rich. Don't know about the sever you're on, but what I'm seeing a lot of on Triumph is lots of duo-ing. These "groups" don't want more people in it and they killing machines.
[ QUOTE ]
Think clearly about this; if you designed a game which fundementally is based around the fact the majority who play online games do so because they want to interact with other real live players, you do not want to make it as beneficial to solo as it is to interact with those other players. If you did, then you'd be encouraging people to not interact with other players and you would have a game world which does not provide the player to player interaction which is desired.
<snip irrelevant PvP stuff>
[/ QUOTE ]
And think about this. No one is asking for it to be "as beneficial" just doable. The boss changes on test make solo all but impossible save a few well built and well stocked characters. After this boss change goes live, my defender will never be able to do a mission solo again. And before you come back with the group fanboi response of that "it's a support class".. I know it's a support class and I play with a group of friend 90% of the time. But there's just every now and then that no one's on, I've spammed LFT for 15 minutes and sitting at the train heroically picking my nose. After issue 3 I'll have no choice but to log off and go play KOTOR 2.
I really don't know why people like you seem to think that because we're worried about the solo game, that we're some anti-social freaks who never group. I group all the time, but as server population is down, and crap changes to the game like this go through, it's harder and harder to find people to play with. I can't tell you how may people have passed up on Envoy of Shadows or Terra because they've killed them 10 times that day already.
I don't expect to solo the entire game, but I do expect to be able to have missions available to me that I can solo at any point in my heroes career. And you know what's the #1 reason I like to solo, is so I can follow the stories. I don't know about you, but when I'm jumping around mission to mission, group to group, it's hard to know what's going on and what story you're following, so I solo to enjoy the story.
I'm really disappointed in these changes, and don't think I can handle another anti-solo patch. -
I guess the mission slider is the answer to all the +1 questions... too bad, I find some of the low level mission too difficult now to work up some alts. Guess I'll shelve them until update 3 or go street hunt.
You do realize that some of the low level missions are almost impossible to do for some ATs. (at low levels) This is why some people get turn off from missions early and never look back. -
[ QUOTE ]
Thanks for the update, States!
[ QUOTE ]
3. +1 level mobs are now appearing in the numbers that we had wanted in missions.
[/ QUOTE ]
Even in the low level missions? I'm very concerned about new players facing orange Mortificators (often in pairs!) at levels 3 or 4. That's a tough fight for veteran players. I'm sure anyone who's made a new Science hero in the past while can back this up.
[/ QUOTE ]
I know a lot of people like the +1 mobs in missions, and ya know one or two +1 mobs in a mission, I'm cool with, but when you've got entire rooms of +1, including the end boos, that's just not right. I think this is a problem in lower levels. I can't believe you guys want the missions to be THAT hard. I thought you guys WANTED people to do missions, and not street hunt.
Around low 20s +1s stop becoming a problem and start becoming welcomed, I know, but geez.
One of the most frustrating missions I had bring up a new scrapper was a "save 4 artifacts" mission. One room had 2 +1 minions and 1 +1 lt working on the artifacts, and 5 +1 minions in the room, whom all aggroed at once, and of course destroyed the artifact. I didn't even stand a chance. *Waits for the "buy more inspirations" and "I can solo anything with any AT" posts*
I guess I'll just hang tight and shelve some of my characters until the slider is in. I just hope the slider is for fine tuning missions and not extremes. I don't want to set my missions on "easy" and have nothing but grays and greens in there. Maybe a two pronged slider for level and numbers? so I have 2x the number of blues or something... -
I also love the new Teh P0z-whosawhatsit map.. that would be what I'd expect a Freakshow hideout to look like. Awesome work on that too..
While not "art" related, really loved what you did with one of the find a clockwork part maps where the "pile of parts" kept spawning gears... Man never thought gears a threat until there's like 20 of them.. lol. -
[ QUOTE ]
They won't do so because COV is an expansion, as in EQ most of its expansions are considered to be standalone from the other expansions, yet they don't charge per expansion. And the fact that other MMO competitors charge around $15 a month for the base game and all its expansions would mean charging extra for COV will lose the company many customers. It's simply not the norm to charge more than $15 a month for a MMO. Besides, $30 a month usually isn't in the budget of most people who play this game.(those that get their parents to pay or young working people paying for themselves.)
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually the press release is calling it a "sequel." (I think but can't find it right now) CoV will be unique in the sense that it will be it's own game, but will allow you to interact with CoH. So it's a combo new game/expansion.
Most likely outcome is that NCSoft will try to do something like SoE has where you have "the one fee to play them all" plan. Say 20-25 a month, and you'll have access to all of their titles.
Of course all this is speculation, and even if Cryptic wants to keep CoV "Free" to CoH players, NCSoft may say no, and charge us.
I do find it unlikely that it'll be a full fee twice. -

Tonight, I was Walter Peck in AP 1, insisting that there was nothing supernatural going on. Eventually I got to say 'There is a man here in a werewolf suiAAARGH'

Hehe.. I had quite fun at your ranting in AP1.
Dunno how many people knew where the name Walter Peck came from.

Event wise, the only thing I hope they do is make the doors random to minimize door camping. Saw enough people yelling about "door stealing" in those 20 minutes I never wanna see it again. I hope the people that were doing that were just kidding, but they probably weren't.
And hope they get it where you still get some kind of "treat" when your inspiration tray is full. (And it shows going to your inspirations and not your enhancements.)
Other than that I can't wait to go Trick or Treating..Can't waint to find out what the other "tick" is ..

Ahh I remember it like it was yesterday.. our group came out of that mission. I have to make a nature call and get a drink, so myself and an other take break..
I'm in the kitchen filling my glass with soda and I'm hearing zap.. zap.. zap. come back in the room and see BABBAGE attacking our group.. I get back on team speak and the three guys that stayed where like "glad you could make it" I didn't even get to pottyAll I have to say is thank goodness for walls, building overhangs and giant 20 foot monsters..
Without telling too much Babbage is a clock work "monster"
And that's great to hear that he'll be spawning in Boomtown I was wondering how I was going to get that badge -
This won't be the launch of Issue 2.. perhaps a prelude to Issue 2 as mentioned, but not the issue going live.
Here's why.. (and the one "variable" in my statement is that I interpret "a few days" to be less then a week)
1) There's be no mention of the scheduled maintenance yet.
2) They won't patch on Friday. (Not only does this make sense, but it's been stated before) And since there's been no mention of longer then usual downtime tomorrow....
3) Issue 2 is still a "get at your own pace" download, it's not mandatory yet.
4) They're still putting new code on Test, and still testing stuff.
5) They're talking about etheric energy. (Etheric - 1 a : the rarefied element formerly believed to fill the upper regions of space b : the upper regions of space : HEAVENS.) If this was something related to the Tera Volta, I wouldn't expect to see it's energy referred to as etheric.
6) Gaffer said it's "very optimistic" to expect Issue 2 this week.
The earliest I'd expect to see issue 2 would be next Tuesday. Then giving them a day to make sure all's well and assuming no problems creep up that they have to patch again on Wens. Wednesday would be the "Issue 2 is launching" event. If that's what it is.
Yeah I know "a few days" is very vague and can be anything. Just don't think they'd announce something happening in a "few days" and it not happen for over a week. But like I said that's just my opinion and nothing but speculation on that.
So my thoughts are that something's happening sometime soon, today tomorrow or Friday is my guess. Maybe Saturday. And it's going to be something from currently live stuff. (Don't think they can access issue 2 stuff without a patch and see point 3 above)
Yeah I have too much spare time at work today what can I say.. -

Just hope that FBSPA and Portal Corp's info is reliable.. We all know how reliable intelligence is now adays -
Hmm not happy about this.. but here's what I'm thinking...
I'm thinking this might be Cryptic's way of saying. "We don't support/condone mods and as such we delete all threads about this, but we're not disabling the override feature." Limiting liability. If it's seen here it could be considered "official" and cause problems. By deleting the threads and not disabling the ability to use mods they could still leave it in that "gray area." I only guesstimate that because of the way CuppaJo is only talking about deleting threads.
I'd think if Cryptic was taking a hard line on this, they'd blatantly says stop, and we'd see a patch very quickly to disable the override. I can't see as to why they wouldn't anounce it, if people are going to quit over this, they'll do it when it's anounced or when it's "fixed." They're still going to lose customers over this.
I will not be happy, however, if they disable the override without updating the in game maps with store locations and at the very least cutting the volume of looping sounds in half. (disable would be nice too) -
Dunno if I did this right or if this is even helpful, but here's what I tested.
Removed all 6 enh from Stamina. No Endurance reducerers in any powers.
Turned on SS (1 run), Sprint (1 run), Cloaking Devices (1 def), and Targeting Drone(3 to hit). Only toggles I have.
After about an hour running this, no endurance lost was noted. Lowest number I ever saw was 95.
I don't have enough toggles to make a dent, so I don't know if I can be of more help. -
Good info there thanks.. I was thinking more of a code that "authorized" the use of "super powers" to arrest offenders. Not really the specific violations. I'd figured there have to be one no? Don't know enough about penal codes to know if this would be true or not.
But again thanks for the help -
One of my characters I'm creating lots of bind/emots etc. For my "battlecry" I'm basically doing a "Attention $target, under section .... of the Paragon City Penal code I'm placing you under arrest..."
So my question is what's the "correct" section. I know it doesn't really matter but I'm having fun running around telling the villains that I'm going to arrest them and just ant to get it rightNot that I think you have a real penal code written up (do you?
) but just want to ask.
If any other hero knows feel free to answer..
