RFC on Third Tray Keybinds
[ QUOTE ]
I'm the guy that uses the Ctrl+# to switch trays.
Go ahead and rebind them; I'll adapt.
<gives permission>
[/ QUOTE ]
ME too, I use them all the time. I don't exactly LIKE the idea, but as long as I can rebind it to the way I like it, oh well. Although it will be a pain in the [censored] to rebind all over for every new character
Also, as long as the third tray thingy has a bind to but that to shift+numbers for me, I'll be happy hehe. Don't forget to tell us what the command it though
I have no complaints with this change, since with the absurd amount of powers you get at the late game a third tray is just about necessary. I've already moved perma-Hasten off to an unseen tray on multiple characters, simply due to the sheer quantity of crap I have to keep around on my trays.
Shift-number has to stay, so it's a good change here all around. Even if you're not an emp, kinetics(where are all the Kineticists these days? sigh), or FF, it's still useful to find where other teammates are or target through them so you're sure you're beating on the same enemies.
However, can we get some slash commands to control and manipulate the other trays? powexec_slot, for example, only works on the main tray currently. As do goto_tray and so forth. It'd be nice to have something to deal with the alternate trays, and it would help in organizing certain builds, such as those of Kheldians.
I'd second the option to remove the 'ctrl + click' for setting auto powers. I never could get used to wasd-type movement controls, so I have rctrl+(left arrow or right arrow) for strafing.
I'm all for the third tray also!
I only have one additional suggestion please allow us to add more than just 3 trays.
The reason I say this is that a lot of us do prefer to use the mouse clicks for activating powers. 3 are plenty for the five normal ATs but for my Kheldian I need like 5 or 6 (I'm not joking). So if there was some option that we could set in the "Options" menu that allowed for more than just the 3 planned that would be great. And I don't think you need to bother with key binds for all 9 possible trays.
Again please allow more than 3 trays.
/em thumbsup
Now I'll finally be able to fit all my powers on the tray!
Shift+number for teammates good.
Ctrl+number for switching trays bad. My retarded fingers keep accidentally hitting that in the middle of a fight and switching it to tray 6 or something. DOWN WITH CTRL+NUMBER TO SWITCH TRAYS!
Big yes. If I can use 3 trays, I don't need to switch between control bars. The problem is solved before it is created.
Perhaps a glimpse into my keybinds.txt file would serve to demonstrate my feelings about the current tray-shifting key arrangment:
ctrl+1 nop
ctrl+2 nop
ctrl+3 nop
ctrl+4 nop
ctrl+5 nop
ctrl+6 nop
ctrl+7 nop
ctrl+8 nop
ctrl+9 nop
ctrl+0 nop
I'd be delighted with a third tray though. Just sayin'.

Shift-# is used very, very frequently by anyone who needs to heal or buff teammates, or even just to use recall friend. Please leave that one alone.
As for ctrl-#... I don't use it all that much, and most of the time when I use it it is by accident and I have to figure out why my tray got switched. I would not mind seeing that combination being used for a third tray.
[/ QUOTE ]
Agreed on the buffing. Almost all the "buffers" I play with use that combo, and a few tankers (taunt/provoke indirect targetting).
Personally I *hate* the (current) control key binds. Left control is my voice comms push-to-talk. Nothing like talking in a fight and switching out your first tray! I wonder why it never occurred to be to null the binds...

So, we are considering a change to the default bindings to use left control for the third tray, if few of you are using these binds today. The lctrl+number keys would work on the third tray like the lalt+number keys work on the second tray. Making this change this will remove the tray-switching keystrokes (except for the = and - keys which will still rotate through the trays).
Of course, the slash commands for changing the tray will still exist. You will be able to bind them yourself. In addition, we will add a keybind profile which works just like it does now.
(Further, to promote use of the teammate keystrokes, we are planning on putting small numbers (like the ones in the tray) next to your teammates' icons in the team window.)
What do you think about this change to the default binds?
[/ QUOTE ]
Sounds good! I never used the switch tray function (and would *really* love to be able to disable any key that does that switch and just use my mouse if I wanted to change that).
Still here, even after all this time!
Yes! Yes! A thousand times yes!
/signed: We need a third power tray. This becomes particularly obvious once you get to the late 30s, and especially when you're in the late 40s. There just aren't enough slots for all the powers.
/signed: Control+number makes a good keystroke to select on that tray. Anyone who needs to hop to multiple trays on the fly right now probably has already set up macros to do it anyway.
/signed: Adding little numbers to the team member list screen is one of the best ideas you guys have had since adding 10 more levels onto the game. Take the guesswork out of hitting the right slot.
Do it to it!
I have never used ctrl to change trays. I have often wished for a third tray. Therefore, I like this change.
Also, I'm surprised this is meeting so little resistance. I mean, it's a great idea, but on the other hand, they're planning on changing something; doesn't that mean that people should be coming out of the woodwork to profess their love for changing trays with the control key?
I'd also like to throw my name in as a player that uses both shift-# and ctrl-#.
Since it seems to be somewhat misunderstood, I shove rest in the 3rd tray, I usually never need it, but if i ever do, it's just ctrl-3 -> 1 away.
Also, and more importantly, I use ctrl-4 and ctrl-5 for my dark nova and dark dwarf power sets, I suppose I could be clever and macro it so that it shap shifts and switches trays, but I'm kinda lazy for that, anyone else have that done already?

Well, they're changing the defaults, which can easily be changed back as far as I can tell.
I'm in favor of adding the third tray, and indifferent about changing the defaults

And Pets! Pets Damnit!
Let us pick a target, and use one of the shift+numbers to queue that set of pets to attack it and you will definitely see players being encouraged to use those binds
...Right now I usually bind my right shift button to cycle through Friendly units or heroes for stuff like applyng buffs, heals, or Assisting Aim. I'd say it's just as fast for me because I'm not that good with numbers
I hate using the mouse, and avoid doing so at all costs.
That being said, I don't ever use alt, shift or ctrl +number. I use the main tray for all powers that need to be executed on a regular basis. Powers that I want to use, that don't fit in the main tray, go in the second tray only if I need to be able to see when they are recharged. All second-tray powers get bound to letter keys. So what I'm saying, I guess, is that I work around the system in my own way.
What I'd love to see is "reset key to default." Who knows, maybe this already exists. For example, "/unbind K" would reset K to default. I'd love that. Because now that I don't have to use /bind enter beginchat <border blah><color blah><bgcolor blah> ... I can't just reset it to /bind enter beginchat. I get an error saying I have to put in SOME kind of value.
But I dont want to reset ALL my binds, because I have a lot of them. Resetting one key at a time would be nice.
Sorry.. straying off topic.
I think that change would be fine. I don't ever use the current CTRL-# combo now, anyway.
Sounds great, especially if we can see all 3 trays at once.
This is exactly what I asked for... several months ago. I've addressed the problem myself, but I still might find use for a tertiary tray, so I say go for it.
The Titantic Tiberian Fiend
I just wanted to say that I bound my shift key so that I could use the secondary tray useing it. It is a heck of alot easier on the pinky.
Oh, and I never use the numbers to select teammates. I am seen as an awesome healer in my SG as well so it certainly has not impacted that. Click name use power bam, done.
I do like having the control key access the third bar. I just hope you don't change the binds we currently have in place.
I'll echo what others have said:
My defenders use the shift+ keys all the time.
I never use the Ctrl keys. And when I hit it by accident, it's a major pain.
Cryptic is on the ball once again.
--Mr. Strange
I like this idea. I don't currently use ctrl+num, so it wouldn' t negatively impact me (my Kheldian form tray-switching is handled with a bind).
It will take a while to get ctrl+num ingrained into muscle memory, but even if there was no number combination for the third tray at all I would still find it useful at higher levels just to place power icons for toggle powers I have bound to other keys.
To respond to the many comments:
We will not change the binds for shift+number to select a teammate. It's obvious many rely on it. It is generally thought that the addition of the numbers to the team window is a good thing.
Most of you seem OK with the proposed changes to lctrl+number. There are some who use it, however, who would hate to have to rebind those keys. You should not have to do that; the plan is to create a new keybind profile. As of today, there has only been one keybind profile: Default. The idea is to add a new one named Classic or Original. To get the keys back the way you are used to, all you would need to go to the Controls page of Options and select the profile you want from the pulldown on the right side. This is sticky for each hero. Although not optimal for you, perhaps, is it acceptable?
Obviously, we could put these changes into a new profile and make people change it if they wanted the new binds. However, we think that these binds are better overall for people and would like them to be default.
Someone asked for a key which pops up the tray and leaves it up. That is bound to the right alt key. (I can't remember the slash command offhand... /alttraysticky?)
The suggestion for /goto_tray which works for the other trays has been put on the short-list. That should have been there all along and has been an oversight.
I will put the other feature requests (such as more than 3 trays) on the request list.

[/ QUOTE ] What he said. Not only wouldn't I mind ctrl-# used for the third tray, I'd prefer it to accidentally switching tray numbers.
Vote /yes for changing ctrl+num to third tray.
Vote /no for changing shift+num to third tray.
hmmmm, currently, I use the numpad for tray 2 and the numkeys for tray one
having a 3rd tray wouldn't suck as far as I'm concerned, I already have to have some powers set to easy to reach keys like Y and C or B, ect...
I'm down for a 3rd row. Just reprogram to be numpad for tray 2 or 3 and there you go. Makes sense to me anyway.
