Well, you listened to your customers. Good plan.
I like the ability to drop a mission. One question though, if a mission is dropped, will you be able to pick it up again from the contact? I imagine this system is some time in the future, so I hope that you take that kind of thing into account when designing it.

If you can't get the mission again and constantly drop missions you hate, no one had better come to the boards and complain there isnt enough missions because I will ensure their complaint is their fault for skipping missions and being anti-social and not street hunting once in awhile.

Well done! You know, you keep doing great stuff like this and we'll just expect better and better I can not wait to see how you guys handle PvP. I'm excited!
/em sets Cryptic on pedestal
Well maybe you should check into Kheldians not beeing able to solo a mission because they are so week, and we cant kill a minion with a quantum gun without a ton of inspirations.
And some how that is dignified, even though we are the weakest AT.
Play your game plz

Currently on test they have increased the damage Kheldians do in human form. Give them time. The mission scaling and tanker/scrapper armor issues have been around a lot longer than Kheldians. They'll get to them.
Im usually pretty critical of the devs, but this is a nice nice nice change that really helps both team players and solo players. It also shows that when players say something isnt working right you do listen.
Now about higher difficulty in the top end I would agree that would be good if you greatly improved the exp, the upper levels are very grindy right now.
Boycott Ncsoft if they close down Coh.
I'd post a "thank you," too, but this has inspired me to go fire up CoH and play all night.
I'm not even going to ask, I'm having Statesman's baby. And I'm a guy. Look for me on Weekly World News (next to Batboy).

A suggestion if I may.
Right now setting difficulty higher gets bigger spawns. I've heard your not supposed to but this occurs, I have seen it. This better be changed because I am gonna hate fighting named Lt's as I will for any future characters be bumping up the difficulty since this game shouldn't be so easy on me. Also, if I set myself to Invincible, can all Named Bosses because Elite Bosses? This feels appropriate if you guys fix the "bug" with setting reputation higher and getting more spawns when soloing when sometimes all people want is higher level enemies.
[/ QUOTE ]
I don't think this is a bug. From my understanding:
Hard-Boiled: Normal
Tenacious: Normal with larger spawns
Rugged: Higher level
Unyielding: Higher level with larger spawns
Invincible: Much higher level
This allows those who want higher levels to get it, as well as those who just want larger spawns.
To rephrase, to show the other side of the argument, "fix the 'bug' with setting reputation higher and getting higher levels when soloing, when sometimes all people want is larger spawns."
[ QUOTE ]
I think this is great for the game.
Not just in terms of the actual mechanics but also, more importantly, at what it does for your players' confidence in your product, and in yourselves.
[/ QUOTE ]
I've long felt that Cryptic had their heads on straight, but occasionally something happens that makes you lose faith just a little. That's inevitable, since we as players can only see the intent behind changes (or the big picture of where the game is going) to the extent that the devs explain it to us.
And even those explanations are frequently, to use an apt term for it, cryptic (even when the devs don't intend for them to be, devs being busy people). They have to be interpreted, and are easily and often misinterpreted. Ultimately, we can only really rely on the results that we see and the impact they have on us personally. There's often a disconnect between what we can see and what the devs say.
I didn't want to give the impression that I was holding my subscription over the Cryptic's heads in order to get my way, but this could have been a game breaker for me. So I quietly decided earlier on in this discussion that if they decided on something that restored my confidence in them, I would put my money where my mouth is.
That has happened, even moreso than I was looking for. Not just the decision that was made, but the explanation that came with it, and the way it was stated. It lays out exactly, with no ambiguity, what the devs are driving for and how they intend to get there. It makes sense. And it is a direction I agree with, naturally.
So, to demonstrate my restored confidence, I've just committed to the next year in CoH (or rather, I will have once the next billing cycle comes around).
I know, it's not as exciting as if I'd announced that I were supplying ten million dollars in capital for future development, but it's the most appropriate thing I could think of. And also, I don't have ten million.
I'm glad to see this. As much as I enjoyed the harder bosses with a couple of characters, it also made soloing a standard mission unreasonable for many ATs, and teaming isn't always an option. It's good to know the developers are listening to feedback and willing to respond to it.
Wahoo!
States, you're my hero again.
I may even get over the terror that arose when you said you were looking at controllers.
Now I've got a reason to start working off the 50k debt I built up on my scrapper this week getting one-shotted by AVs.
The mid-term solutions sound good. As someone who loves the challenge Issue 3 has added, I hope it doesn't take too long to get this in.
As a suggestion for another alternative: Is it possible bosses could just scale up in difficulty for groups? Having them appear as LTs makes some mobs appear trivial (namely named story arc mobs) since you encounter LTs on a regular basis. Couldn't they still appear as Bosses (with the former difficulty) and, in groups, they'd appear with the current difficulty as Elite Bosses?

Sounds like a mistake on my end. I thought it was just supposed to increase the change of +1s/2s/3s/4s (when teamed for 4s) in missions.

the scrapper in me is going to miss the hard bosses, but the blaster in me is rejoicing... and jumping up and down like a schoolgirl... wait! no!

Teaming shouldnt be required, but rather encouraged.
[/ QUOTE ]
Encourage teaming, put more trials in the game. The respec trial, the eden trial, the sewer trial are all unique expereinces in this game that show off what you devs are capable of and give magnificent group experiences. More please. Much more!
Although I have yet to be adversely affected by the increase in boss difficulty, I think this is an excellent plan.
If you want it harder, crank up the difficulty level.
My only suggestion would be that when this plan starts to take shape and go live, that you communicate it to all players- possibly via a newsletter. Casual players, who are most affected by these changes, may not frequent the boards as often and may be unaware of the plan.
I could not be more thrilled! Best game ever, happiest superheroine ever - thank you!

Just crank the difficulty for your scrapper.
I didn't care the slightest about the boss changes, but this is simply outstanding. This is a giant middle finger to all the people who've been saying you don't listen recently and it's one of the best decisions you've ever made. I'm with you guys for the long run.
Statesman,
I've been pretty hard on the Devs lately (which is fair, since a lot of these changes were pretty hard on me ), but I'm encouraged to see this kind of post happening again.
It had seemed that the Devs were becoming less and less community-involved than they used to be (especially when compared to Beta), and more and more ivory towered, as you put it. This is a welcome return to form.
I hope this is a lasting homecoming.
Statesman,
Kudos on so many levels for these changes to current settings, and more importantly the long term philosophy. Now a quick suggestion.
Please look at a mechanism for giving all players on a team that have the same mission in their tray credit for mission complete. I REALLY hate having to walk through the same storyarc mission over and over for each person in the group. The Countess can't frame us all, and we can't all capture her at the same super secret location on 5 separate occasions. It would be nice if everyone got the individual mission complete bonuses as well, but I can think of plenty of ways to abuse that so maybe not.
Grouping should be fun, but not repetitive. Generic missions are less troubling to the immersion factor. And there is also the problem that if you group constantly, you WILL miss out on half your arcs unless you purposefully stay in debt.
Thanks for listening.
Oh, and get Pohsyb, Positron, War Witch and co. back onto the boards! And give Weirdbeard a raise.
States,
Thank you. Not for the roll back. I mean thank you for that too, because I was for this, but thank you for listening to people here. It really does show an interest in your player's opinions. And I have to tell you that that feels great.
We all know we probably won't like everything you guys choose to do. But doing things like this tells us you probably did listen before you did it.
Thank you and your team!
