Solo and Team Play
Thank you, thank you, and again, thank you. I really love this game (I have 28 characters after all) and wanted to go on loving it as well as the CoV expansion later this year. You have my gratitude for restoring my faith in the future direction of this game. My dual subscriptions (me and the kids) are secured. I will try not to be such a doubting Thomas going forward. The thoroughness of the content of your response took me by surprise. Excellent response to the issue. Thanks again.
This is one of the best things I've heard from the team in a long time. You guys rock. Way to go, States! My blaster may actually be playable again.

Hmmm....
Never thought I'd say this.
But can I join your fan club? I want my secret decoder ring now.
*5 stars the Thread*
What else is there to say really?
I think it is extremely impressive that you have both listened to your customer base -AND- reversed a controversial change. That is flat out outstanding.
Further, the carrot vs. the stick approach to encourage teaming is a great move.
Great job!
I can't find a single point to quibble with here. Nice work, and some excellent ideas!
Also five stars the thread.
I agree with the general consensus here. While I personally didn't mind the increased bosses I know the other archetypes/more casual players where hit pretty hard. I'm glad to see the devs coming to terms with this issue!
I am sincerely impressed.
Yay I can do the respec and the manticor tf now. It was impossible to get or keep a team together after the changes.
Just adding my /em thumbsup to the list. Both the short term and mid term solutions sound great!
I liked the new bosses, but eh, seems like I was in the minority so I can understand the changes. Thing is, I could deal with the bosses even on Invincible, so now there's again no really challenging setting if I solo or duo. *sniff*
Where's my Infinitely Uber difficulty setting!?
Thank you so much Statesman! This is another reason why I love City of Heroes: The developers not only listen to player comments and complaints, they actively investigate their concerns and, if they are legitimate, does something about it in a short time. When I was on EQ, you were extremely lucky to ever talk to anyone who worked on the game, and they only listened to the high level players.
So, from the bottom of my squishy Blaster heart, THANK YOU!
I thought meetings were about free food, not cranking out constructive changes. What the heck?
Proprietary brain. Place in shred bin only.
THANKS!!!!
i think this is the fairest solution. i tempted to push the slider up a notch on my Tank but i'm afraid that if too many people of a specific AT do that it will be a "nerf Me!" becon. On one hand the game has to be challenging, for the skilled but siple enough for the challenged. I think this change is a step in the right direction.
I believe this must be one of the best solutions of CoH, ever. Nice work DEVs.

The impossible has just taken place, I am not going to goad anyone to find a way to complain about this solution.
I ... I'm all teared up. Really. Actual tears.
I mean, damn. I didn't mind the changes -- it's an interesting challenge, going up against a boss with 25% more HP and damage -- but with a controller as my main I could definitely see where the complaints were coming from. The new bosses could, given a clear opportunity, evicerate you coming and going.
Any other MMO -- any of them, go ahead, pick one. Yes, that one -- would have just said, "shut yer trap and deal." I am sad to say that I'm used to that kind of treatment, where the players are expected to take the "nerfs" and the "fixes" equally.
But .... you listened .
*sob*
No, no, I'm okay, really ....
*ahem*
I don't know what to say. From all of the players who don't frequent the 'boards all that often (if at all), I hereby deliver a hearty "thank you"; thanks for listening to player feedback, no matter how much it may go against what you think is initially a good idea. Thank you for accepting the intent behind the posts rather than focusing on the (admittedly) harsh language used at times. Thank you for not being like other MMO companies out there.
Thank you for CHOICE. May you stay in business forever.

3.5 stars so far for being on the right track and for the part you can mre easly do
.5 stars more if you get the flashback to work
.5 stars more if I dont have to use another player to flashback and can enjoy my stories in leasure then being pressed into service on anothers mission
.5 stars more if i can enjoy the new contacts from the hollows that got stuffed into my contact pool and told me that
they desperately needed my help and that i was too powerful to help becuse the villians would not stand a chance against me
I will toss in 5 more stars if you get the flashback to work on contact basis and also aplly it to the Taskforces so if we are exemplard we dont suffer if our friend disconncets
Yes the real reason i solo is that I wont get a chance too take my time and enjoy the stories they got
The Legendary Cosmological Prince Reigar 53rd Illusion Control/Storm Summoning/Primal Forces Mastery/Incarnate
It's a dark and story night. That means something bad is happening out there
Who ho! I was right! One week almost exactly!
Thank you Developer(s) for your Boss decision! I had a post at the end of the "Boss" thread and mentioned about why we can't/don't all team up in COH. This is the first and only MMO game I have ever played. I fell in love with it since last July. I even bought this game for 4 of my friends (at $50 a shot) just to get them hooked. They are all devoted now and none had played an MMO before. We are all on different schedules of work and maybe once a week we can team up. The rest of the time we solo and THAT is what makes us pay to play. One of us is an uber leveling tanker. I am a "squishy" hero. We (except for the tanker) all are slow paced players who love to just hunt badges and solo due to work hours and raising kids (task force with a 2 year old in your lap.....not). Let me list some things that I am amazed and proud of your development skills.
1.Details in your maps....like fire escapes...steam...duct work...I have stood on a building in Steel and just marveled as if I was on the Empire State Building. I am so happy for badges, their locations have me seeing map areas I would never see. The detailed story lines are fabulous (Spanky is so funny...). Some nights/mornings all I have time to do is badge hunt for 30 minutes....but you have wonderfully given me that Solo option.
2. The pedestrians and their comments. These are some of the funniest things you can imagine. Now everybody can read what they say...and it is great.
3. Striga..........That map could be a game unto itself. It is fabulous and is one of your jewels!
4. The monsters and how they are purple to all now. Looking at the nest of level 30 and up heroes sitting in the Perez lake waiting for Kraken was sad to me. You wanted a team atmosphere and you guaranteed it with the new monsters. I loved listening to my friends talk about the mob on the octopus in IP. It was a party open to all and my "slow leveling" friends felt like they had hit level 50 when it died.
5.The reset of the bosses and the way that it was done. You have the difficulty slider (great move!!) for those who want it and yet you have still left us "Solo" folks a way to still get some satisfaction. The short game is what a lot of us make do with. I would like to play for 4 hours a day....do task forces...level 3 times a week...but I play when I can...I level when I can...and now again I can take a mission and complete it at my skill level without begging a +2 or higher hero to come in and kill my boss. You made me put my Halflife 2 box (unopened) back in the closet. For that.....my controllers and defenders thank you! Now go get Europe addicted to Paragon City!
States, everything sounds great, but there's one concern I have that I need to get a response on. Please, hear me out here.

Contacts give out another series of missions story arcs. These are linked missions that form a much larger tale. Players normally receive story arcs only after theyve leveled their Contact up to the highest level. Whenever a named character occurs, hell be a Lt. for the solo player at the lowest Reputation level and a Boss for teams or solo players with higher Reputations. Arch Villains, Elite Bosses and Giant Monsters will remain as they are; but, for the early and mid-levels, players will not need to defeat these foes to complete the mission. In the high levels, this is not the case.
[/ QUOTE ]
Currently, this is not the case; you can get a storyarc from a contact at any point in your relationship to them, as long as you've done at least one mission for them. Is this going to be a change to the way the game is done? And, if so... some contacts (namely, the sets you get from 25-30 and 30-35) take forever to improve your relationship with them. Two of my characters have done every single storyarc for those tiers and haven't maxed their relationship with a single one of them. If that goes through without making the contacts upgrade your relationship faster, with less missions, it's going to become incredibly hard for even a solo player to get all of the storyarcs with a single character for those tiers, much less for someone who plays with teams regularly.
Please, is this a planned change, and if so are you going to alter the relationships? Or is that a misunderstanding?
