  1. I think he mentioned SG creation instead of rent because they are both locked behind the same door - being able to access the SG registrar. You get both or you get neither.

That said, my name isn't Necrotech_Master, so I obviously can't say what he was thinking - maybe he misunderstood the question for all I know.
  2. The OP seems reasonably well answered, so I decided to address bad NPC ally behavior more generally.

I think NPC Allies ignore stealth on an engaged enemy in much the same way NPC enemies do. From my experience, once you've engaged an enemy, turning on Stealth/Invis doesn't make the enemy lose track of you, even if you are beyond the point they should be able to see you. It's part of the reason Placate and Stealth are two different effects.

Regarding Dietrich/Fusionette and racing forward - I wouldn't be surprised if they have the same power that Longbow Eagles do (Positioning?) that forces them to engage from range. (I also wouldn't be surprised if Dietrich was considered an Eagle herself, if an EB one, but that's another topic.)The AI has no sense of direction, only distance. This doesn't matter so much to Eagles, because if they are running away from you, the only other thing they'll run into are allied Longbow. For your NPC ally on the other hand, all they will run into are more enemies, or at best empty spaces. If you could keep the enemy between the ally and the next spawn, would that make the helper run backward to empty space, or would the ally charge past the enemy anyway?

Another problem I have encountered with NPC allies comes when I am running Tactics, due to the +Perception it grants. Suddenly my NPC ally can see further down that long hallway to the next enemy spawn. Since it has no sense of self-preservation, it runs to attack and leaves me behind. Turning off Tactics often alleviates the problem.

I will agree that NPC allies can often be more trouble than they are worth. However, if the AI for them was better, I'd expect the devs would use the same AI for enemies. I'll leave whether smarter enemies is a good thing for another thread.
  3. The character select screen uses a text file saved in your game directory that contains your custom character order. It is possible this file has been lost or corrupted. If this happens, it uses a default order.

However, unless I am mistaken, this text file is only read if 'Remember account name' is checked.

The file in question is playerslot.txt and is located in your install directory, in a subfolder named for your account name.
  4. I'm pretty sure you can't use both codes, at least not at the same time. The refer-a-friend program can be used with a new or inactive for 90 days (probably meaning non-VIP) account. The starter kit can only be used on a brand-new, no money spent account. If you friend uses the Starter Kit, they will probably have to wait through the VIP month, then an additional 90 days as a Premium account before the Refer-a-Friend code could be used.

If the Refer-a-Friend is used first, you won't get the free time, and they won't get the free points unless they pay for a month's subscription via game time card or recurring billing. Paying for the month will mean being unable to apply the starter kit code.

The Starter Kit cannot be used as a method of payment for the purposes of Refer-a-Friend.

As far as being prompted to enter a subscription plan, either game activation requires entering billing information. Under most circumstances, the billing plan can be cancelled once registration is complete without being charged, but I don't know whether Refer-a-Friend makes an immediate charge to get the free goodies.
  5. Don't the ATO procs use Procs per Minute? If that is the case, you might want to put them in an attack that has a base recharge close to
60/(number of procs per minute), as that would give a 100% proc chance. For the normal Brute ATO proc, a power that has 15s recharge or greater (before enhancement/set bonuses/buffs) would give a 100% proc rate. For a Superior, that would be 12s. AoEs have an additional part of the formula based on target cap (and maybe range?) that I haven't heard if anyone's managed to figure it out yet.

After you do factor in enhancement/set bonus/buffs, it is very possible one of your attacks will recharge faster than 10 seconds, yet still have the chance to proc at 100%. That sounds like it would be more procs than the damage aura, if it only checks every 10 seconds.

For normal, run of the mill procs, Pine's advice is right.
  6. Are you sure you're checking the right email account? The email isn't getting eaten by a spam filter? If neither of those are the problem, maybe try creating a support account. Another option would be calling the support hotline, although I don't have the info handy for that.

I don't know how much more help players can be at this point. Every email I've gotten saying 'someone has logged into your master account from 'here'' has been very fast indeed.

Although on further reflection, maybe since the account got locked, they won't be sending password change emails? A hypothetical situation: say someone hacks your email, and you kept the registration email with your master account username (as they suggest). The hacker tries to guess the password, and gets the account locked. They request a password change, which is sent to the unsecured email, and now they have access to the master account. A smarter hacker would have just changed the password from the get-go, but I'm sure there must be some 'stupid' hackers... right?
  7. There may not be a Rad/Rad Blaster, but there are Rad/Rad Defenders and Corruptors. Could one of those be what was meant instead?

    Concept Build?

I actually have a concept build of the manner you seem to be referring to. (Don't worry, this thread has caused no offense, been remarkably flame free.) It's a Mind/Emp, who was meant to be a purely telepathic character. I didn't take Levitate or Telekinesis for that reason.

Of course, since I was locked into Healing Aura, I hand-waved Heal Other. But I reasoned that once someone was dead, there wasn't much I could do for them, so I didn't take Resurrect. Clear Mind seemed easy to rationalize, and I took Fortitude (although I no longer remember why, maybe some form of mental linking?) Recovery Aura I figured let allies ignore their fatigue, but I couldn't rationalize Regeneration Aura the same way - no amount of altered perception is gonna make you heal faster. Adrenaline Boost actually is easy to rationalize, and perhaps I should have taken it, but I'm a mostly solo player and I decided I liked Invisiblity better (projects a notice-me-not field).

I did take the entire Leaping and Leadership pools, and most of Psionic Mastery, in replacement for the powers I skipped (and Stealth to unlock Invis).

This was my first character, made way back in I5. Also, I prefered to concentrate on locking down enemies rather than heal/buffing. I've rarely had complaints (usually about no Res) and have gotten some compliments, so even by skipping what some see as 'key' powers, it's possible to still do well on a team.

That said, I've hesitated to take this character past UG in the Incarnate Trials, where the lack is a tad more noticeable. (I craft the temp rez nowadays as needed, but those don't work in Incarnate Trials of course.)

I wouldn't think it randomly picks a shard receiver so much as it rolls the drop before it checks eligibility. If the roller is ineligible, then the shard is either randomly distributed as any other drop would be or is passed to the next person.

Then again, neither you nor I have seen the code, so either or neither of us could be right on this.

Your characters will be there, however, depending on your veteran status and purchased slots, you may not be able to access them without subscribing or buying more slots. Premium players (aka former subscribers in this case) are limited on the number of characters they can have active. Your characters will not ever be deleted, although depending on how long ago you left and what level your characters were, the names may have been released. I'll let someone else give the details on numbers of characters and name release info.

Your published missions should still be around. There have been a number of changes to how AE missions work since it came out, so they may not reward the same way you remember.

Any unpublished ones were saved locally to your own hard drive, so you're the only one who can answer for those. However....

By 'bought AE', I assume you mean you bought the Architect Edition of CoH.

Unfortunately, the Architect Edition was a release commemorating AE, and was not required to use AE. Under CoH:Freedom, you must have a certain level of Paragon Rewards (vet rewards) to use AE as a Premium player.
Tier 2 (which as a former subscriber is the minimum you will have) allows you to play any AE arc without reward.
Tier 4 (with 8 reward tokens) allows you to play AE arcs with rewards.
Tier 6 (20 tokens) is required to create/test/publish in AE.

If you subscribe, there are no limits on AE.

For more information on the Paragon Rewards program, see here: http://wiki.cohtitan.com/wiki/Paragon_Rewards_Program

One final note: it is best practice on these forums to edit your own post if you have more to add, rather than posting directly after yourself.
  11. You're looking at April 2011, mouse. April 2012 is at the top of the list, although there is a questionable typo there too, namely a couple weeks that last for 8 months.
  12. Hmm, in terms of overall story lore, it may not be necessary to do much with Warburg.

Entering it sets you to level 38 automatically, and although there's no lore reason for this, merely being a PvP balance mechanic, one could theorize that the events therein all happen while your character "is" 38. (air quotes, not emphasis) Since WWD ends when your character is at least 40, the zone could be said to exist in your character's past.

So maybe Ourobouros has taken control of Warburg, and everyone who goes there is time traveling?

    Yeah, maybe not....
  13. I don't believe phasing works that way - whatever phase you are in, you can only successfully attack things that match your phase. That's why allies must enter the phase to attack things within. If Force Bubble pushed everything outside the Dimension Shift, the enemies would return to normal phase, and thus could not be attacked by someone inside the DS. That said, the controller inside the DS would be safe from non-Hamidon harm.

Would the immob from DS prevent the repel (haven't viewed DS's numbers to see if repel/KB protect is included)? Also, what's the radius on the DS as compared to FB?

Now I wonder how DS interacts with Carnie Illusionists. Would they be in a phase within a phase, or drop to normal phase?
  14. The /respec command only works with a 'free' respec, such as those given out by the devs at Issue releases (which we didn't get one this past Issue). Since the command did not work for you, the two respecs you have are of the 'earned' variety, and thus must be started from a respec NPC.

Arbiter Lupin is next to the AE building in Nerva Archipelago. Arbiter Saywer is near Pocket D's Port Oakes entry. Jack Wolfe is inside Atlas City Hall.

    Repairing your install is unnecessary.

For details on the types of respecs available, see http://wiki.cohtitan.com/wiki/Respec.
  15. The reactor's inability to be healed is apparently a Known Issue, as listed here: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=271603

No mention made of it being vulnerable to the room's DoT though.
  16. It lives! (Although in this case it works well, try to refrain from necroposting in 2 year old threads in future.)
  17. Also, every so often (wanna say 1 week, but not sure), the average resets to the default of 5 minutes.

I don't pay any attention to the time myself, and now that you can run missions while in Queue you don't have to - just make sure you're not getting bounced from the Queue after mission completes.

I keep opening up the powers and looking for that effect, and watching the combat logs. And laughing. Who writes this dreck?
Basically what this means is that most Radiation Blast powers have a higher than 1.00 base accuracy (all but Neutrino Bolt and Cosmic Burst are at least 1.05), and have defense debuffs. 'Normal defenses' means no defense powers. Why they don't just say that is probably legacy from before Real Numbers, when they didn't want us to have the numbers. Rad Blast is an old (launch?) set and I doubt the description has changed in all that time. When you're saturated for accuracy, you're not likely to notice either effect.

If there are outleveled contacts in your active contact list, one of two situations applies:

    1) The outleveled contact has someone to introduce you to. In this case, Call/Go visit them to get your new contact, and the old one will move off to Inactiveland.

    2) You have begun but not finished a story arc (as denoted by a book icon on the contact). In this case, finishing the arc should move them off your list. Note, the arc will still only be run at the contact's max level, so it is entirely possible the missions could be filled with gray enemies if it has been awhile. On the plus side, it'll make it that much easier to clear, but on the minus side, you'll get nothing out of it other than a cleaned up contact list.

Can't really help with a channel for Victory, but the two Justice channels I hear most about are Justice United and Justice For All (I think that second one's right, only belong to the first myself). TF/SFs are also now queueable in the LFG tab (on your chat window) and the Weekly is supposed to be highlighted in some way. In the past, the LFG has been set aside in favor of preforming via Global channels, but the changes to it in I22 may (or may not) make it more popular to use.

One thing that some people seem to overlook when it comes to Alpha abilities is that there are two recipes available for each power - one using 'shard based' components and one using 'thread based' components. There is a scroll bar on the right side of the window showing what you need.

Shard based come from high level TF/SFs or by making them from scratch with shards. Each TF/SF rewards a component specific/connected to that TF/SF - so, as examples, ITFs award an Ancient Nictus Fragment, while STFs award an Essence of the Incarnate. Shards drop from defeating even-con or better enemies in all content except the new DA content and Incarnate Trials. The Notice of the Well that is rewarded from the Weekly TF/SF is a Rare level Shard based component.

Thread based comes from the New DA content and Incarnate Trials. When a Trial or story arc is completed, a choice of a random level (Common, Uncommon, Rare, Very Rare) component is rewarded. Threads drop from enemy defeats in this content.

The Incarnate Trials are the fastest way to gather the needed components, but it will involve some amount of grinding trials to get very far. Shards offers lower rates, but more variety. It may be to your advantage to combine both strategies, at least for the Alpha ability - run a few I-trials to get your Tier 1 and/or 2 ability, then run a Weekly TF for the rare Shard based component. Running another high level TF/SF will get a common component and between the weekly and the second TF, you will most likely have earned enough shards for the final piece of your rare Alpha. If you decide to pursue the fourth Tier of Alpha, you need to go back to the bottom (Tier 1) and start all over to craft a second Tier 3 in the same tree (a second Agility Alpha in your case). The difference between T4 and T3 may or may not justify the added work. (Personally, I'm content to stop at T3.)

For the complete list of TF/SF Shard component rewards, see http://wiki.cohtitan.com/wiki/Incarnate_Component.

One final note - Shard based components only contribute to building your Alpha ability - Judgement, Lore, Interface, and Destiny can only be made with Thread based components.

  24. From my understanding of the way the forums are set up, the 'Remember Me' box only remembers you for 8 hours. This was a design choice made by whoever maintains the Forums (Not Zwill and Co.). I think it's been this way since the migration to the new forums.

Personally, I have my browser remember my username and password, so I just have to hit the first letter of my username, hit down, and enter and I'm logged in again. Also I only come to the forums around once a day, so my aggravation level with the topic is lower than it is for others.
