Can someone help? It used to be fine adn would keep me logged in every time I would go to the forums. But now even when checking the box to stay logged in it keeps kicking me out every time. I haven't changed any of my settings since then, and I don't have them set to auto-erase login information.

This has been an ongoing issue for...*wince*...a very long time.

There are no words for what this community, and the friends I have made here mean to me. Please know that I care for all of you, yes, even you. If you Twitter, I'm MrThan. If you're Unleashed, I'm dumps. I'll try and get registered on the Titan Forums as well. Peace, and thanks for the best nine years anyone could ever ask for.

That's okay. The problem is so old it has learned to walk and is eating solid food now.

From my understanding of the way the forums are set up, the 'Remember Me' box only remembers you for 8 hours. This was a design choice made by whoever maintains the Forums (Not Zwill and Co.). I think it's been this way since the migration to the new forums.

Personally, I have my browser remember my username and password, so I just have to hit the first letter of my username, hit down, and enter and I'm logged in again. Also I only come to the forums around once a day, so my aggravation level with the topic is lower than it is for others.

It has NOT been this way since the migration to the vBulletin forums.

The forums used to actually Remember my username. Now they do not.

The forums used to actually let me stay logged in no matter how long I'd had the browser open. Now they do not.

The Remember Me box does nothing.

There are cookies that are supposed to expire after 8 hours and make me log in again. They expire if I close my browser so that I have to log in again anyway. It doesn't matter what version of Firefox or IE I'm using, the behavior is the same.

There are times I am logged out randomly when going from one page to another using the forum navigation links (I never use the Back button on the forums). It sometimes logs me out in the midst of making a post.

The crew in Seattle has caused more forum problems than they've fixed in my opinion.

None of the other forums I use that run on vBulletin have these problems. I'm still logged in to one of those forums from when I first logged in over a year ago. I might make a post on that forum once a month, if then, and yet I stay logged in just navigating the site.

Yeah, the forums are a great irritation at the moment, and for like about the last nine months too.

The other thing is, even if you log in, the forms don't "remember" what threads you read last. So the "new posts" flag, which bolds forum post titles which have new posts in them, is buggered, and shows incorrectly that some posts have new posts when they don't.

It also misremembers your "view first unread post," which is very annoying. And for longer periods it seems to forget which posts are new, and flags those as "old," the reverse of the problem in the paragraph above.

In short, nobody is terribly please with the forum software right now.

For me, only marks new as read if it logs me out on it's own while I'm using the forums.

For 100% success rate on having read threads marked read for next time, use the "Mark Forums read" options then manually log out.

They need to revist their cookies, as they don't work right, and undo their rediculous "Different IP/Same Device = New log in time" - makes it even more annoying to visit the forums on the go.

I seem to recall seeing Zwill or someone say it was set to log you out after eight hours of innactivity.

Then on top of that there were the random forum logout bugs. I'm not sure if that's been completely ironed out yet or not, but it hasn't hit me in quite a while.

It has not. In fact, I get logged out so frequently that I have started copying posts before hitting the "Submit Reply" button, because it seems like if it takes me long than 60 seconds to type a post, I will get logged out and lose the whole thing.

It's ridiculous and the company should be ashamed that their forums are this user unfriendly, but they are so clearly unwilling to fix it that I stopped complaining about it months ago. ETA: Until today.

I have logged in about 6 times now, and in the course of being redirected to the main forum page....I'm logged out again. I'm surprised I was able to make this post.

Clearly unwilling to fix it? Naturally. Or maybe it's one of those bugs that's hard to find because it's not consistent. It's not affecting everyone. I haven't had the forums log me out since some time last year.

Yeah, that happens to me all the time on my PC at home. I only manage to mostly stay logged in on my work computer or my wife's laptop.

They have it set up so any of the following will log you out :

- 8 hours of inactivity. This is the only one they seem to have told Zwill about upfront.

- Closing the browser window. The cookies are basically set to "8 hours OR end session" - which to me makes them useless. And it's annoying to have the thing reset because you accidentally closed the whole window.

- Change of IP address. Even if it's only to another IP address you've been using with that account and machine for the past several years. Change of IP address invalidates whatever cookies are on the device.

I don't know, I've read some posts in the past asserting that the company claimed it was out of their hands and there was nothing they could do about it.

IMO, that's BS. If I told one of my customers that at my real job, they'd find someone else to do business with.

And while I agree that it's not affecting everyone, it is obviously affecting enough people that these threads pop up every couple of months.
