NCsoft Response to City of Heroes player and fan suggestions
Thank you so much, Hitstreak, because posting this had to be even harder on you than us.
Well, I hope Paragon Studios opens the lines of communications with us and tells their side, but they are probably still bound by severance contracts.
I really hope they keep us posted on where they wind up, though, and I sure hope at least part of the team can stay together and start a new Kickstarter project or something!
And as for NCSoft, the greedy bastiges.... I'll bet they were asking all outdoors for the IP.
Well, I already hate them anyway, and this comes as no great shock (I expected them to be too greedy) but now I totally refuse to give them another penny, ever. I find it most remarkable that they have the nerve to continue foisting cheesy Korean grindfests on the MMO community after mercilessly closing down so many games. I hope Blade & Soul and Wildstar go splat against the wall due to NCSoft's shoddy business practices and lack of support for their games. Don't even get me started on Aion and Lineage 2 here in the states.
disappointing news to say the least, however there are still 2 months left in which something can be done to somehow save the game
im not giving up hope until the servers are shut down

[QUOTE=DocArcus;4407994]I can't believe that they are saying that it's over on the negotiations. It's not over till the servers are turned off. It sounds like a ploy to get us to back the pressure off of them. They know the bad press we are causing them is going to cost more in advertising than what the game is worth to recover from.
Very good point Doc. Do not relent people. Keep the pressure up and continue to get as much media coverage of this as possible. At some point, the negative PR can start to cost them more than any 'perceived loss' they might take by selling the game.
no. No. NO!
I'm sorry, but I don't buy this. I'm not saying that they are done with any negotiations, but I can't help but feel this is some kind of PR thing, something to try to quiet the masses. NAY I say, NAY! I won't be quiet, and i really doubt anyone else plans to either. There is a TwitchTV broadcast tomorrow, so I will wait to see what they say before commiting to the next phase, whatever that may be. But rest assured, there WILL be a next phase. This isn't over yet. There is still 2 months left, and plenty of time after that to get something done. This is the time to regroup, and depending on the outcome of tommorows broadcast, the time to speak louder. We know that we're being heard, now it's time to make sure they hear the message.
Thanks to everyone that helped make me a welcomed part of the community, and for giving me over 3 years of some of the best gaming I've been able to take part in. May the next game bring many friendships and maybe reconnect to some old CoH friends.

Whether there were real negotiations done in good faith that just hit an impasse that neither side was willing to budge from or posturing to look like they were willing to negotiate when they knew going in they'd never agree is in this sense irrelevant, this is the statement that says "it's over".
And **** them for that.

Governments have fallen to the power of social media. Gaming companies can too.
To be fair to NCSoft, turning down offers of cash from something that you were just going to just throw away must be pretty exhausting.

I just saw this on my twitter stream. Does that count as spamming GG? :P

And I don't think for a minute that Titan Networks is going to slow its projects down for one minute, I too am still hoping for an eleventh-hour save from Brian, Melissa and Matt and the crew at Paragon Studios, and even if it doesn't come, I doubt anyone has seen the last of City of Heroes.
Alternate worlds and other projects aside, what is NCSoft going to do-- patrol the entire internet from Korea, looking desperately for signs of EMUs? LOL.
Well...damn...
PS: went a lil trekkie on you there in the middle, but it applies I'm honestly starting to see NC Soft in my head as the Ferengi from Star Trek...

Anyway, I'm thinking it's about time to sharpen up some knives.

This does smell to me like a move to shut us up. Even if there is no chance, i will go on fighting for CoH - we all have to keep at it. I would also be interested to hear from Titan etc.

"We've exhausted all options including the selling of the studio and the rights to the City of Heroes intellectual property, but in the end, efforts to do so were not successful."
Wait... So their efforts to exhaust all options were not successful?
This is some pretty awkward writing for a professional copywriter.

I do not know if any realistic potential buyer was asked, or even learned of it.
How does this work anyway? Is there a well used business-only forum where firms announce things like that? DID a potential buyer in the gaming industry actually ponder buying it? I do _not_ know if there were negotiations and offers, from my point of view they might just as well have put it on a buying/selling billboard in their coffee room, and asked their grandma'S neighbor. Wanna buy City of Heroes? No? Ah, too bad. Could not sell it.
The fight isn't over. It may have gotten harder, but by no means is it over. Time to strap up your boots, tighten your capes, and get into fighting pose. We are heroes. Not giving up, THIS is what we do.

Let's be realistic for a second. I have a $300k house (CoX), I want to get out of it and move. I entertain offers, but all I get are offers that are less than what I could get for demoing the house and selling the land (tax deduction for the loss). People are offering me $30k when the land is worth $100k alone.
Is this a realistic offer? Does this mean I wasn't willing to sell, or that no serious buyers were coming along (ones with enough money to make it worthwhile for me to keep the house in tact and sell instead of demoing and selling the land)?

The alternative is "exhausted" means they thought about all the options and decided not to actually engage any of them.
This is PR fluff to get us to shut up. Don't fall for and do NOT give up the pressure. It's not yet time to bring the rain...but lock and load. It's two months to server shut down and they're saying this now? When they haven't even acknowledged contact from some investor inquiries?
Uh-uh. Keep the pressure up. We're making them look bad. They want us to give up. Don't.
