NCsoft Response to City of Heroes player and fan suggestions
Either they are flat out lying, or the guy that runs a small studio and didn't get a reply to his enquiry is (can't remember which set of boards I saw this on atm, if I find it, will link it).

That or selling it wasn't allowed as a part of their deal with Perfect World's arm, Nexon, who just bought 12% of their stock a month before this went down.
When somebody wants to buy something but can't, it tends to get mentioned publicly as a leveraging tactic and it would be a very good one with NCSoft, as they look like mud to investors right now. I do not believe any effort has been made to sell this game. I do not believe they would ever risk letting go of the IP for fear of somebody doing better with it until somebody pried it from their cold dead hands which might be any month now given how things are going for them.
It's true. This game is NOT rocket surgery. - BillZBubba

We the fans and loyal customers would LOVE to know which avenues were explored and why things failed. 1. Some transparency here would help many of us with understanding and reaching feelings of closure, rather than the feelings of betrayal by NCSoft and sorrow and anger. 2. As demonstrated, the CoH Community is really quite interested in seeing City of Heroes and Paragon Studies continue/get re-established and would be willing and eager to work pro-actively with NCSoft to develop a win-win scenario where we get to keep our beloved MMO in a manner either cost neutral or even profitable to NCSoft -- keeping in mind that the good will of the CoH Community may in fact be GOOD Public Relations policy for NCSoft.
CoH was my first MMO and I played from Issue 15 unto this present day. (I'll be logging in tonight and every night, until I no longer can.) Prior to the "sunset" notice, I've been very happy with NCSoft, and, like everyone, looking forward to Issue 24 and beyond. I urge NCSoft to consider ways it could hand off City of Heroes, if NCSoft no longer wishes to publish this MMO. (I appreciate that the profits to be made from CoH may pale compared to the profitability of other business opportunities for NCSoft.) Please do what you can to help us save our beloved MMO. Thank you!

"We've exhausted all options including the selling of the studio and the rights to the City of Heroes intellectual property, but in the end, efforts to do so were not successful."
I'm sorry but i call BS on this. Thats a lie. If they wanted to sell it they could have. The only reason i can see that they actually couldn't is if they wanted way more then anyone had or they don't own the rights and whoever does won't sell. So which is it and how do we get more money together to buy it?
I'm done if they don't sell, they are dead to me. I'll NEVER touch another one of their games and i do play other games.

Dear Hit Streak/NCSoft Team,
We the fans and loyal customers would LOVE to know which avenues were explored and why things failed. 1. If they cared, at minimum the servers would had been sustainable without a dev team. I hope no one comes with the "better off shut down than without updates" would have been the biggest b.s. that can be tossed at us right now.
Its pretty obvious they dont intend to sell.
Just bury the game. Gone. Next!
I was sad, now I feel rage.
NCSoft sucks!
All this shut down was managed in very poor unproffesional ways.
They could give us a warning. Something, like: "Guys, game is under revision and could be gone if not making more money"
They could come with a B plan to make some numbers... Who of the players would not pay for I24 as mini expansion? If that means saving the game...
Things could be done, but they had 0 interest from the start of the anouncement.
Im pretty sure, they even did not listened any offer.
That or they are asking for insane numbers.
Either way, NCSoft is gone for good for me. I Dont trust them as publishers.
Did I say he made an offer, he made an enquiry and didn't even get a reply, they never found out whether it was sensible or not. Hence my questioning their claims to have exhausted all avenues.

"Sending an enquiry" is meaningless. I could do that right now. The question is, is it credible? Any query from me would clearly not be. As for Mr. X, who knows? Unless his name was Gabe, it probably wasn't.
And how was said query sent? If it actually was a serious attempt to reach out, it would be very ironic if it got sent to one of the electronic or physical addresses people were busy spamming.
Generally stuff like this happens between people who already know each other on some level. Or an intermediary makes an introduction.

Once again, we will be holding events throughout the process of preparing for the game's end, and we encourage players and fans of the franchise to join forces and enjoy their time in a game that we've enjoyed supporting for more than eight years. http://us.ncsoft.com/en/news/respons...ggestions.html |

They are just trying to shut us up. They lie. We are making them look bad so they are trying to take the wind out of our sails. Don't let them do it keep making noise. Read Tony V's response. Hope is not dead. http://www.cohtitan.com/forum/index....topicseen.html
Justice Server Global Name Elfin and Elfin Too #savecoh
I could name my 50s but why? Universal Heroes SG I love this game.
Thank you, NCSoft, for this overwhelming pile of pancakes. I greatly appreciate the effort you put into spinning such an empty, hollow message - as if you expect any of us, at this point after so much silence, to believe it.
Dont waste your time, they are not actually interested. They never were (NCSoft.)

There, you may now go ballistic.
But really, do you know what happens to revenue if there are no updates? Does the phrase "asymptotically approaches zero" mean anything to you?
That may well be true, Stars Man, but I'm hoping the Public Relations angle might have some lingering value to NCSoft, even if the relative profitability of the MMO and stable player-base doesn't.

As far as I'm concerned, this changes little. They told us once a month ago that the game was shutting down. We rose up as Heroes to defend our home, and the game we love. NCSoft mentioning it a second time does little to break my resolve.
If nothing else, our continued battle against our perceived injustice could at least help start a precedent for future situations of this ilk.
Fight on Heroes.
The more I think about this, the angrier I am. They follow their same pattern of burying the IP of games they dump. Profitable or not.
Bad publicity is not a good thing for them and I hate that i'm forced to look to that aspect for some comfort. When I heard about the negotiations, I had some hope and now..
Damn you NCSoft. Never again.

Lots of interesting perspectives at Titan. I really do think this is an effort at getting us to shut up.

We have heard your message, you want the game to continue. It's what we'd like to have happen. That's not possible within NCSoft, business reasons required we close the studio. But we continue to negotiate with others on the possibility of leasing or purchasing the IP. We cannot comment upon the state of these negotiations other than to state that there are no guarantees, but your desires have been heard and now it comes down to negotiations."
My guess is that it's not about getting the players to shut up, but rather close off attempts of those who are trying to open negotiations and to stop those within the company trying to encourage/support negotiations.
And yes, this message is an announcement that negotiations are closed and there will be no sale of the content.

We should all approach life in this fashion. Don't live based on regret or remorse. Live based on unashamed vulnerability and complete lack of inhibition. If NCSoft isn't remorseful, why should we be?
Or, if you truly want to go the other way, then be remorseful that we as players didn't do enough to keep this game alive. We didn't hit the streets to shout it's praise. We only had that drive to decry our unfair treatment from NCSoft after they threatened to take our game away. I choose the first category. It stings less and enables better growth. |

Wait a sec, where are those guys that had the "inside information" on the negos? They said many times at one point they was going, and was going very well, and said that NCSoft was listening. So where are they to explain what happened? Was everything going well one day then the next day of meeting NCSoft quit or what?
