[QUOTE=DocArcus;4407994]I can't believe that they are saying that it's over on the negotiations. It's not over till the servers are turned off. It sounds like a ploy to get us to back the pressure off of them. They know the bad press we are causing them is going to cost more in advertising than what the game is worth to recover from.
Very good point Doc. Do not relent people. Keep the pressure up and continue to get as much media coverage of this as possible. At some point, the negative PR can start to cost them more than any 'perceived loss' they might take by selling the game. -
[QUOTE=Quinch;4370642]I'll just leave this here.
Quinch, what is Gabe Newell's email address? I would certainly send him an email with my thoughts. -
Quote:Okay guys. We all hate absorbing the ginormous patches that come with issues. It takes forever (or seemingly so) even on fast connections.
If you want to be ready once the servers come back up:
- Fire up the bare NCSoft launcher right now.
- Click on File --> Settings
- Click on the Auto Update tab
- Make sure "Automatically download and apply updates (recommended) is checked.
- Click OK.
- Let it trickle-download. Don't (as in DO NOT) try to manually force the download (it's more likely to fail on something and try to redownload the entire damn thing).
- Once the update is slurped down let it apply.
- Once it's applied, right-click on the CoH launcher and select Repair (Consistency Check).
- Don't be freaked if it has to download more stuff. Sometimes the patches aren't complete. Mine needed to pull down another 80MB of fixes.
- Run the Repair function again to make sure it doesn't download anything other than the file manifest. Keep running it until the only thing it's grabbing is the file manifest.
- Run the game (no you can't log in, but there's ANOTHER check before it starts up again). You may or may not have an issue there requiring another run of the Repair function.
- You should be able to get to the login screen and maybe the server list at this point.
It's amazing that anyone is able to get the game fully patched when the method to do so is this absurd. Thank you Hyper! -
"The Ward is also home to new villain groups such as the Awakened..."
Foul! They stole the name of my SG (the Awakened) which I have on 4 different servers, for a new villain group in The First Ward. I want copyright fees! -
To me, the problem is that no one knew anything about this beforehand. Freitag said this was due to hardware upgrades. That's great. I think just about everyone would like to see the hardware upgrades promised by NCSoft when they first bought the game, but installing new hardware is not an unexpected event!
There should have been a week's prior notice for something like this. People make plans to play and paying customers should not be treated as if their plans are inconsequential. This, on top of the recent period of many unexpected, extended downtimes has quite a few players ticked off and they have a right to be. -
This entire thread is so outdated. The most recent Guide shown here is from i12 ! That's 8 issues ago !

Zep, please pay no attention to the less than helpful people that have responded thus far, all in jest.
There was an unschedualed maintaniance today that lasted for almost 6 hours. When the servers did come up, it was appartent that there was a rather far reaching rollback. (Some people have reported loss of items, rewards, ect for events that occured 24-36 hrs ago.)
The servers then went down again, and are still down as I write this. Been a bad day for all involved. -
Totally agree with each and every point you made.
Shameless Bump!
