If NCsoft refuses to comply, and the game shuts down, What is our revenge scheme?

The revenge I want to see is all the fired members of the Paragon Studio to get their own game development studio, get some serious funding, kickstarter maybe, and role out a new MMO that blows everything out the water. NCSoft can only watch and feel shame as they realize what they let go.

Honestly?

You realize, than being vindictive over poor management from a company is probably childish.

Then, you realize, being a hero doesn't have to be limited to a video game.

Go out and make a difference.
And what about the villains?

Should we do as OP would do? Rob banks? Kick puppies? Push old ladies into traffic? Start a game company, pick up a studio that created a much-loved game and dissolve the studio overnight despite its prosperity because it doesn't fit into our grand scheme?

Actually... that last one is far too evil for even the most cold-blooded of villains.

I tried it... aside from the character creation I HATE it

No villain faction to play

The "adoring public" is irritating as all hell. I'm sitting around talking with a friend and every few minutes some old man, fat man in sweats, candy kid or half-naked muscle guy comes running up to me about being so awesome for killing a couple bugs

The dingy and dirty areas are not so dingy and dirty in comparison to the Rogue Isles

Voice acting. My god, the voice acting. I had the misfortune of coming in during the anniversary and witnessing what I can only describe as Xuxa meets Jem meets Hatsune Miku...

The Red Banner Cult is a godawful stereotype... their leader can't pronounce Millennium and has that ridiculous cartoony Asian accent

It is saturday morning cartoons: the game. How I wish it were the good kind but its not

I was waiting for someone to remember that this wasn't just a City of Heroes -- it was also a City of Villains. Villains wouldn't take this laying down.

Personally, though, I'm a hero. I'll mourn, then go play another game.

its true, there ar other definitions of hacking. in fact, going by the definition provided by a song in fallout 3, his plan is to sleep with ncsoft...clever boy!

in reality nothing. i wont buy any more of their games, but that's pretty much it. life is too short to be going around worrying about getting revenge. If a grocery store ticked me off, I dont shop there, and if i can, i convince my friends not to, thats pretty much it. I will try to follow the devs info feeds to see where they land and try their games, rewarding is more important than revenge, and they deserve rewards. and i will play my gigantic pile of shame that encompasses at leas 4 consoles, pc games, and handheld games, most of which are long rpgs. that should hold me for about 2 lifespans of a human being. so yeah, no more money to ncsoft, but beyond that, i move on and live my life.

Let's try to be positive. Both because ideas like taking revenge on NCSoft are pointless, and because they don't help anything. I'm pretty sure if the NCSoft execs are even considering an action that will keep the game opening, this type of nonsense isn't helping.
Personally, I wouldn't see NCSoft going bankrupt as revenge. I see it as foiling a Ponzi scheme. What if NCSoft cut off a different game in the future that developed as close a community as the one we developed here?

It does imply the poster thinks "computer science" is actually a thing.

And I would hate to think the poster meant he was planning on coughing on NCSoft executives as hard as possible.

We move on with our lives. We keep City of Heroes alive in some other form, (or server emulation, if someone wants to risk that). We show NCsoft it was a mistake to close the game, because of the loyal fans. You don't get "Revenge", you just keep living.

The only revenge I have planned is to go back to my single player games that nobody can take away, and never spend another penny on anything NCSoft has anything to do with. Nice and simple.

No. Stop right there {criminal scum}. No illegal or legally-questionable things. We're better than that - let's stay that way too. Even if it's an obvious joke.

He's going to give the NCsoft execs food poisoning with poorly-prepared beef?

Pretty much this. We, as a predominantly nerdly demographic, can hold grudges for a very long time and be pretty loud doing it. And by doing so, we can poison NCsoft's western reputation simply by exposing its practices.

In the real world there is no such thing as justice, or fairness when corporations are involved.

Move on. Stay true to yourself. If you don't want to buy their stuff, don't. Talk to your RL friends and associates about how you feel, people you know. Explain yourself lucidly. They're your sympathetic audience, not random people on the internet you don't know.

In the end, don't worry about it. NcSoft isn't worrying about you.

Move on to something else that will make you happy. Or try to make something that will make you happy.

Ouch. Don't think the OP deserved that. Granted he is adovcating illegal activitiy that may harm other people's liveihoods (to I guess join those already damaged), bu tto tell him to grow up may be just a bit much.

Okay, I've been trying to be polite to people but this warrants a blunt response.

Speaking as someone who's spent decades in white-hat circles, as someone who's put people who've done dumb **** like this in federal prison, you REALLY don't wanna do that.

Even nowadays, they basically toss you into a room, lock you up, and throw away the room for a couple years before you even get NEAR a court. You then spend the next few years fighting in court against people who have INFINITELY more money than you (not just NCSoft, the US government).

Then you get to spend a few years having to have people make phonecalls for you, you can't even be in the same room as a computer, can't even hold a McJob because it involves access to computers and you effectively may as well be back in jail.

Also, any attempts to cash in on your fame are simply siphoned off as part of the damage award to your victims.

But, by all means, go ahead and flush your life.

Now, I know you may have intended this as a joke.

But it ain't funny.

Clicking on the linked image above will take you off the City of Heroes site. However, the guides will be linked back here.

To be fair his post reads like someone who has little understanding of what they're talking about and doesn't realize it. It's kinder to presume youthful arrogance that will be overcome with maturity rather than traumatic brain injury.

Who's up for a Costco run to buy pallets of TP?

Or we could go all Bond villainy and induce the North Koreans to invade the south. That should hurt NCSoft's bottom line.

Those guys and gals didn't have HALF the fanbase and fan resources that we have here. What are we capable of? Can't wait to find out. So one thing's for sure. If our efforts to win over NCSoft's charity fail, we need to take all of that anger, and all of that passion, and all of that love for our game and community, and use it to BUILD something from the ashes.

THAT is what I would most like to stick it to NCSoft with.

THAT is how I'd like to see revenge.

Our unmitigated, unstoppable, unbreakable spirit.
Although that's the Plan Z option if everything else fails, some basic groundwork is already being done, just in case the worst happens.

Pretty much this. Not one member of my family or SG will buy another NCSoft product again if this comes to pass, and will be sure to tell others what they think if this comes to a close. While I don't consider this a blip on my radar, we all might be surprised.

I was in Game Stop the other day and the cashier asked me if I wanted to pre-order the new WoW expansion, and I (never having played WoW) said "Nah, I'm an avid City of Heroes player and buying anything for an MMO at this point isn't really something I want to do..."

To which she soberly replied "I'm so sorry, I heard about what's going on there..."

Two other people in the store also piped up. Nobody there actually played City of Heroes, but they knew what was going on, and were very supportive and said they were sorry the way things were going down. It was nice to hear, to be honest (the past few weeks have been a very low point for me for a miriad of reasons, including this). However, more importantly... gamers know what's going on. They know who is doing it and don't understand it any more than the rest of us.

I didn't ask if they bought GW2 or if it influenced their purchases from them... I was feeling awkward enough as it was by getting so much attention from an offhand statement I'd made, to tell the truth. I just wanted out of there and not to think about it.

I think this will impact NCSoft more than they realize, in the western market at any rate. That will probably be 'revenge' enough.

you have no idea how much money I'd pay TonyV and whomever he can get from Paragon Studios to join with him to form a company and produce a game called "Titan City" with a Kickstarter campaign.

Actually, I don't know how much money I would pay either... I'd have to check my finances. I'm old and have disposable income, but still...

It would be as much as I, my wife, and even son (who loves CoH, and who's still living with us but paying rent) can afford.

^.^

I stopped reading here, because this is exactly right. Let's just pretend for a second that I could snap my fingers and have Guild Wars 2 just disappear and NCsoft to go bankrupt because of it's stake in it. I wouldn't do it. You know why?

Because I wouldn't have wanted an avid Tabula Rasa fan to have done it to us.
