Which is actually pretty painful. It's like they cut us open and then offered us this as a band-aid.

A band-aid made of salt.

Well, it *was* just a general mass mail out. I got the email on an NCsoft master account that *doesn't* have City of Heroes attached to it.

After watching the trailer on the website... Nothing about it seemed slightly distinctive. The art style of someone-someone? Did they also do the art for Tera, Aion, and the dozen other high fantasy asian MMOs, because it looked the same as all the rest.

I think it would have looked better if they had tried to model the game after the more stylized, less photorealistic art style used to draw the girl in the email. At least then they'd have had a distinct visual style, instead of the same as all the rest.

Although, the whole generic high fantasy, grindfest, sub-based, no-story (at least based on the website) things... combined with what they just did to CoH? Yeah, I don't really have any interest in it... And I bought Aion. And was excited about it. I'm never again going to pay anything for an MMO before I get to test it out (they didn't have a trial back when I got it).

After destroying a Western product and obliterating several American jobs?

No.

Which is weird, because I've got an NCsoft account AND an Anet account and didn't get that email. Kinda hit and miss, aren't they?

Yes! I had a moment where I was really sort of excited about the idea of a high-fantasy martial-art MMO based on the art style, like Okami (what a beautiful game!) Alas...

On a scale of 1 to Tera, where does it fall?

Hyung-tae Kim, who worked on several games in the past as an artist (Magna Carta series, War of Genesis: Tempest, War of Genesis III and War of Genesis III: Part 2)

Aren't you assuming that it is going to be sub based? Even on the official website, they state that they still haven't decided if it is going to be F2P/Hybrid/Sub based...

Yep, if it had been that art style (and the gameplay wasn't generic crap... which it probably is), I might have been tempted to check it out. Supposedly (according to them), it has a really powerful costume creator as well (although I imagine that means the normal stats-based-appearance handicap every fantasy MMO has).

But, no, this is the industry that keeps pumping out the same game again and again, except with one minor tweak (*cough*aionwings*cough*).

Are... those famous games? I've not heard of a single one. Based on the videos, there's absolutely nothing distinctive about the style. It's just generic fantasy.

The game is already out in (at least) two countries. And NCSoft confirmed it before then as well.

Whoa, wait, that's him? How'd he go from this to this?

... Having fond memories of Embla again, I'll be back later.

Its currently sub-based in Korea, that's why I thought it'd be the same here.

Thanks but no thanks, NCSoft. I'll probably give GW2 a whirl at some point, but Blade and Soul just looks excruciatingly bad to me. Probably a wonderful, modern game engine, but I can't stand the art style. Also, I have lost all trust in Asian-focused games being anything other than mind-numbing grindfests that port poorly to Western markets.

Any interest I may have had in the game died as soon as I saw how ridiculously limited the Race/Class setup was.

Seriously? The most varied races gets to be three classes?

AND the self described "ideal class for beginner players" is locked to only a single race available?

Pfft.

Massively.com has a Blade and Soul article if anyone would like to post in the comments section: http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/09...s-headed-west/

Somehow I think NCSoft is more likely to listen to the voices coming out of the general public's areas than on these boards, and in any case it can't hurt to warn new B & S players about what NCSoft is really like.

So, looked at a few videos on Youtube: Blade and Soul has flight...it's definitely Kung fu flavored flight, but it doesn't seem to be nearly as crappy as Aion's flight timer gliding only unless you're in a massive PVP zone.

Still...seeing the mailer in my inbox pained me and irritated me. Part of me thinks that CoH was canned to drive more super-fantasy custoemers to Blade and Soul when it launches. I think that's just personal paranoia and scorn though.

I'm not playing Guild Wars 2. I has nothing I want.

Call it generic *asian* mythology if any please

And although the game is sub based out in the Asian market, it *does not* mean that it will automatically be sub based over here. Yes, there is a strong chance of that happening, however until it launches, never say never.

I was just going by what the *English* Blade and Soul website was stating in terms of sub fee.

That was my first impression as well. Just felt like a real kick in the teeth - especially when they've said absolutely nothing in response to the rally last weekend (which I missed due to being on vacation in Savannah). I unsubscribed from their emails but I REALLY wanted to send a nastygram telling them where to stuff Blade and Bone...

*Sigh*

I doubt the people doing the American port will have a whole lot of resources... so I kinda doubt they'd be able to/want to modify (and keep modifying with every update) the game to work as f2p/hybrid when the main version is subscription based. Sure, it's possible... but I'm a bit skeptical, unless they're also toying with the idea of making the real versions f2p/hybrid as well, I doubt they'd put the money into it.
