Have to admit it . . . GW2 may replace COH for me
Bumping this thread to remind people there are still games to be played no matter who makes them. There are some toxic trheads out there from people wishing ill to certain companies and thus wishing more people will lose their jobs. I can't stand by and see these people do this to others with doing something.

People are understandably pissed at NCsoft right now. I don't think anyone can be honestly surprised that this isn't necessarily the most congenial place to discuss another of their games right now.
What message does it send to Arenanet?

Honestly, I don't think there's enough of us for buying or not buying GW2 to send any message at all to NCSoft (especially given that only a fraction of us would have bought it before all this went down). That's not to say everyone should rush out and buy it, but refraining from doing so is more about personal feelings, principles, satisfaction, etc - NCSoft won't notice either way.

denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance
Do yourself a favor, work your way to 5 and then post. At this point you should be working on a bucket list or have moved on like I have. Or just call me a troll for not joining in the meta coh circle jerk that this save our city campaign has become. |
Congratulations, you're officially a generic part of the internet, much like being a nitrogen atom in the atmosphere.

Actually that's not why people refer to you as a troll. More like the apparent lack of empathy and absence of civility. AKA acting like a jerk

Yes, one has the freedom to do many things but you also have to accept the consequences and to post going to GW2 on these boards is going to have consequences.
One thing to remember about GW2 is that the developing team is not NCsoft, they are people just like from Paragon Studios. People who love to create and make games. NCsoft is just the money machine making it happen.
It is a very good reason to not give money to NCsoft because they are not trustworthy in my opinion.
I normally find that when a thread needs to be bumped it speaks for itself what people think and feel of the thread.
Hence you can't expect anything but negative reaction when it appears top of the threads list again.
It's been repeatedly stated on numerous occasions by various people including myself that they don't want to see GW2 threads on here, the response was "if you don't want to see it go elsewhere", which apparently what people did, why the need for the bump.
Too many 50's to list here's a few you may know.
Slazenger, Area51, Area53, Area54, Erruption, Mind Plague, Thresher, Sheath, Broadside, Debt
If the poster or anybody wants to play GW2 don't really have a problem with that its their time/money.
Personally i would be very reluctant buy GW2 spend time and money developing a character. Then find out a year down the line the suits at NCsoft have decided that GW2 is not working and will close. And the characters i have spent a lot of time developing would soon be gone.
I do not trust then not to do as they have done with COH again.
I guess the question to that is: how many years and years do you need to develop a character?

If NCSoft did decide they were done supporting GW2, could ArenaNet keep on producing it without any problems?
Does NCSoft own GW? Or is it like with CoH where NCSoft had to purchase it at some point from Cryptic?

Not attacking..I do understand the emotion, but we have to remeber they have the right to post as we do and if they want to post about other games they have the right too.
The Mods have said it is ok..so who are we to try to tell them they can not?

Congrats. You just won the worst opinion of the year award.
In response to what?
EDIT: Do as you will and have fun.
THIS. Precisely this.
I have no hatred whatsoever for Arenanet or Guild Wars 2 in and of themselves. But paying for it means that money goes into the pockets of a corporation that has dealt me, my friends, my community - my online FAMILY - a near mortal blow. And that I cannot forgive or condone. If Arenanet and GW2 get hurt in the process (which I doubt they'll feel all that much anyway) then so be it. It may mean only the tiniest drop in the endless sea of profits that GW2, Arenanet, and NCSoft make. It may mean NOTHING to anyone else. But it means something to ME. I will know that I acted honorably and with principle. And that's all that matters in the end. That I can look myself in the mirror and know I didn't stab my friends in the back by handing over money to the people that killed City of Heroes, the best damn MMO ever made. |

Buying GW2 sends a message that you don't care how NCsoft has conducted themselves here.

If people want to play GW2, that's fine by me, personally. If it's a game they enjoy, the death of this game shouldn't prevent them from enjoying it.
I got it as a gift, and I'm going to play it, because it's a solid game. However, I won't be buying anything in the cash shop, which is something I may have done otherwise, just to support the game. But I don't have any illusions that NCSoft cares one way or another about my lack of support, and I'm not doing it to send a message. I'm doing it because NCSoft's piss poor customer relations haven't earned my money.
