How much would you pay?

So, say one of the efforts going on managed to save the game in some form or other, but some changes were needed to increase revenue... How much would you actually pay per month to keep the game alive?

Myself, I'd go up to double the current monthly sub.

I'd like to be able to say "up to double", but I jut can't afford that right now. But definitely "more".

I'm in the same boat here. That said, if I had to pay double to keep playing, I'd find a way.

If it went double I'd drop down to F2P. If F2P was no longer available at that point then I would drop the game.

Indeed, at this point even if the game gets a last minute save I'm going to be a bit leery about continuing my sub just to have the rug pulled out from under me again a scant few more months down the road.

I'd pay double, but I'm really stupid with my money.

I think there's two sides to the issue: One is what we are willing to pay to save our game. Another is what prospective new players in the future are willing to play. If CoH was a $30/month subscription game, I really doubt we'd ever see any new revenue.

I would drop like $700 right now and pay double for the sub if it would save the game.

double makes the game unreasonably expensive in the f2p world. 5$ is reasonable however, especially if it came with an extra 100, 150 points per month!

A possible option may be expensive 'supporter' type purchases in the store.

A game is not supposed to be some kind of... place where people enjoy themselves!

Any other game I'd say 1-5 bucks, but for City I'd pay up to double and do whatever the hell I had to to scrape the extra cash together.

If they kept the hybrid business model and raise the subs I expect a lot more for my VIP status for double the sub fee.

Edit: But I hope they wouldn't have to raise the sub.

I would probably be willing to pay $50 or so per month for as long as I am enjoying the game. The monthly fee is not really the dealbreaker for me.

I don't think the game would be very successful reaching new people at that rate though.

I wouldn't pay more than the industry standard for a sub ($15 month). Not because I think the game isn't worth it. But doing so isn't a sustainable business model and the game would atrophy.

The City of Heroes Community is a special one and I will always look fondly on my times arguing, discussing and playing with you all. Thanks and thanks to the developers for a special experience.

Thing is the game had a positive revenue of about $2m - $2.5m per quarter.

On it's own, it was in the black.

I don't think I'd pay more than my monthly plus the up to $200 in points I bought in the first year.

What I would do is drop money on a kickstarter type crowdfunding effort if it secured the property and Paragon studios in a way that the game could operate in perpetuity. For that, I'd easily kick in a few thousand. Maybe more.

I would pay double, but would only keep one sub... However, if they allowed VIP status to a single alternate account that is attached to the main account(free/premium account status for any more after that.) I would probably keep 2 main accounts subbed.

double would be tight with 2 accouts to pay for but i would manage some how

I think it's a bit of a no brainer that most of us forumites would pay more to keep our game going, but I wonder if that's true for normal Jo Gamer? Putting our emotional ties to the game aside do we really think that increasing the monthly sub would be a good idea for the longevity of the game (assuming the Paragon Studios bid was successful) and to encourage more people to play it?

My preference.. keep it as it is and spend some of the revenue on promotion!

I hit "up to double" but I hear what you're saying. A $30 subscription would be lunacy, but I wanted to show that I'd be willing to cough up a few extra bucks.

The game was profitable at $15/month plus whatever they were getting in microtransactions at the Market. $20/month, plus the renewed interest in the game that issues 24 & 25 would provide, seems like it would put us in a pretty good spot.

NCsoft, along with the rest of the MMO biz, is strangling itself to death with greed & contempt for players. Even if they hadn't pulled the plug on CoH, the sub rate would've been going up soon anyways.

I spent for a year sub last Jan (losing on that one ) And an extra 300-400 during the year on points. I really don't see that changing if the game stays alive.

I'd pay double, since I currently have disposable income.

What we could have are Ultra VIP accounts who get a unique badge (Cashier?) and a coloured forum title in exchange for paying more. No other in-game benefits over regular VIPs though.

Either that or more things in the store that I would actually spend money on.

I'd be willing to pay double, but as others have stated, that wouldn't do much for attracting new players. And if there is any problem with the game, it is just that... not enough returning and new players. I think with F2P they were really hoping for a big spike in terms of people either returning or signing up for the first time.

Sadly, they did a pretty poor job of marketing the game.

They were also focusing new story arc content for higher level characters, and gutted the beginning/lowest level missions. I still continued to make new characters, but that was one of the things I really enjoyed about the game. What I didn't enjoy was that starting out in Atlas Park once F2P launched only gave one mission arc to go thru... so I stuck to street sweeping, then DFB missions to get the needed xp to get the hell out of Atlas Park and on to some decent variety of missions in Kings Row and The Hollows.

Most new players starting new characters weren't going to be happy with the lack of mission choices at the beginning of the game, and DFB probably wouldn't do it for them either. What captured me early on was that characters with different origins got different starting missions.

If by "they" you mean NCsoft... "they're" outta the picture. Hopefully the game's next publisher will grasp its potential and advertise accordingly.

Well I already pay double sincve I owe two accounts and only use 1 of them. To be honest that is all I am able to pay.

Only reason I wouldn't pay more than now is I was already paying for 6 accounts

Although $1 or $2 wouldn't be that much of a stretch even if they only offered it monthly. It's amazing we're still on the same priceplans as when we started 8 years ago.
