Wait...I thought Hitler was a vegetarian and a painter. EA is like...a Cannibal Hitler.

I don't think VALVe will pick up an mmo, it unlike anything they've ever done. More likely they would buyout the license to the make a sequel and/or hire on some devs (Counter Strike, Team Fortress, Team Fortress 2, DOTA 2).

NCSoft is currently in the red. It had losses of $6 Million in Q2 of this year.

They'll snap the hands off anyone offering a large cash influx to them at this moment.

CoH was not making a loss but it seems that in order to save their skins, NCSoft are regressing away from the Western market (with the exception of GW2) and concentrating on their core South Korean market.

This game is still a potential money maker for a Western based developer/publisher that already have a proven marketing track record. It will keep those of us still here and more than likely gain new accounts simply by marketing this game properly.

Incidentally, moving a game like City of Heroes into the Steam Market would probably put it at the top of its F2P list, and just existing under Valve's roof would instantly put it into rotations of their own in-house marketing (spend five minutes in the store and you'll see at least five other games from rotating ads). Take, in example, when DCUO made an arrangement to function with Steam as F2P is when I decided to download it for the whole of three hours before I deleted it. But it was the fact that it cycled through Steam that I was ever even aware of it (that it went F2P); and there's hundreds of thousands of people logged into a Steam account every day.

Even if Valve were to not consider the idea and consume CoH, if someone else were to wrangle the rights to continue the game, then making a pact to use Steam as a platform to access it would be a big step in maintaining the presence of the game once its free from NCSoft.

I'd rather try and do something and nothing happen, than just give up and let City of die.

Okay, I just re-sent my email. Jesus, that email form is finicky. Firefox and Opera didn't do it, I finally had to use IE.

Anyway, here's something I wanted to say: Since I'm not VIP(I was going to subscribe this month, but...well, yeah), I can't post on the Announcement forum. So if any of you would be kind enough to take this pic I made and spread it around, I would be grateful. It's a little maudlin, I know, but hey, whatever it takes, right?

*Note - ed. pic, you were right Quinch. Me so sorry!

Hey. If you play this game, you're family.

Hi! I'm your creepy uncle!

Clicking on the linked image above will take you off the City of Heroes site. However, the guides will be linked back here.

I don't really approve of the last line. The focus here is saving City of Heroes, not payback and it ends up giving the whole poster the stink of Anonymous.

E-mailed Gabe also, along with signing the petition.

I've never contacted you before, never thought I would, you probably get a million pointless E-Mails every day.

But if you read one E-Mail, please make it not this E-Mail because this E-Mail is boring. Rather the E-Mail pleading for someone to save the MMO City of Heroes from certain magnetically wiped doom (unless they use SSD's, in which case electrically wiped doom. Or quantum computing so it's err, something sci-fi-ishlly wiped doom. But I digress).

An entire online community is sitting on it's deathbed and needs someone to save it. It's a long shot but we know Valve have a pretty good track record when it comes to not being inclined to carry out evil deeds in the office and shut down entire communities without warning. This is a record that NCSoft decided to reinforce on Friday with their venerable super-powered MMO.

So if you can find the E-Mail in your inbox about saving City of Heroes could you please be a good chap and give it a read. Even if some desks move into a small super-powered cluster in the corner for only a few days, it'd be good to know someone out there has heard the distress call emanating from Paragon City.

Thank you!

I would also point out that CoH was, despite NCSoft getting rid of them for being a failure, still in the top ten of MMO as ordered by subscribers, according to the latest numbers on MMOdata.net, and still profitable, according to NCSoft's own financial data.

At the very least, you could add a secondary note that (a) the Paragon team is out of work, and (b) there is now a huge hole in the Superhero MMO market (a hole that is even larger for the Mac community, which has nothing, since CO and DCAU are both Windows-only).

Maybe they can't buy the IP, but wouldn't it be nice if Valve hired all the ex-Paragon devs and put them to work on a brand-new Superhero game? It wouldn't be exactly the same thing, and it'd take years to come to fruition, but it'd essentially be City of Heroes 2 under another name.

I added that as part of my suggestion.

Oh, god, I just realized... Gabe might not read all this until Monday, since it's weekend and all, and sees his inbox loaded with CoH emails.

The poor guy.

Yup. Despite being a total headcase, he also brought a country out of crippling recession, restored it's national pride, gave it a sense of unity and purpose and turned it into an immortal note on the pages of history.

If he hadn't been a genocidal, world conquest maniac who was so far around the twist you could use him to pull corks, he might even have been a hero.

Oh, and the vegetarian vs cannibal point is a good one, heh.

It would depend on how much resources they'd be willing to commit. Just buying the IP would be a huge investment.

Another history buff?? We have got to have coffee, so few people left to talk history with these days. Especially since my college professor passed, He was my history professor ranging on a ton of subjects from history of China (the Mao years), History of women in america, history of America, and History of Germany and Nazism. big World War II guy, loved to talk about it.

Well, one of two things will happen, he'll call IS thinking he's been hacked, or his interest will be piqued.

it's a long shot but beter then no shot, sent the email to valve and signed the petition, is there a list somewhere of possible buyers for this seen a few mentioned (not sure what the deal is with EA but never played too many of their games and they were single player if i did)

a list of any possible avenues and who to contact in them would be nice

Message sent. My plea was for them to conduct a feasibility assessment in thehope that the profit potential would make a purchase of the game worthwhile.
