VALVe email campaign
I have sent in mine as well. Remember to go on the game and share this across all the servers. The more we make aware the more who may send in an email.
Thank you Riggs "Wildrider" Wild
Seriously, I should be surprised we never got a Stateszombie. |
I've sent mine, and, having read through most of the thread replies, I wish I'd copied and pasted it for all here to read. Went with the whole city in peril, heroes and villains, rogues and vigilantes in a struggle for their very survival angle. I have a similar one for Joss Whedon, if I can get contact info for him.
Until they become as EA and it's money grubbing campaign of studio and design slaughter, they will never be The Most Evil.
EA are the spawn of Satan's own backside, with less tattoos, less heavy metal and rock, and far more suits and immoral violation of creativity and art. |
EA saving a game; Activision trying to bury something they decided they didn't want to publish anymore. That makes EA less evil than Activision in my book. I'm still sore at them for screwing up the end game of C&C with horrible copyright protection and destroying Westwood studios, but they don't have the CEO who wants to suck all the fun out of making games. And EA saved the game that got me liking Heavy Metal.
Anyway, I've sent my own e-mail to Valve, even before seeing this thread. Here's to hoping.

I honestly don't expect anything to come from this, but I'm willing to grab at a lifeline even if it might be a mirage. I certainly can't think of another company I'd rather have CoH in the hands of.

I don't believe this will persuade Valve to buy the game, but dammit, I WANT to believe.

Activision dropped Brutal Legend, and went as far as to try and sue EA and Doublefine when EA tried to pick it up for publishing.

There are others. They are also accomplices in the ruination of what should have been the RPG series of the century, Mass Effect. Mass Effect 3 was a farce and a travesty that has earned EA/Bioware a special spot in my own mental hell. Nothing will change that.
GG, I would tell you that "I am killing you with my mind", but I couldn't find an emoticon to properly express my sentiment.

Judging by the "EU" in your name I'm assuming you're from Europe? This is by no means my $#*tting you guys, just an observation, but it seems a lot of those saying "don't bother, they'll never go for it" or something similar in other threads are from that region. I don't know how it works on that side of the globe, but in the U.S., letter-writing campaigns actually can influence decisions made by companies. The obvious example is Star Trek, which was saved TWICE by letter-writing campaigns; once to save the original series, and the second time gave Enterprise a 4th season. A letter-writing campaign They don't always work, in fact most times they probably don't, but that's no reason to NOT try. I've never understood the mentality that because something is an attempt in futility means it shouldn't be attempted at all. Quinch, whether it works or not, thanks for the attempt! |
But please don't paint all of us with the same brush, I will do whatever it takes to keep this game going, and any thoughts of saying "told you so" go right out the window now as for once everyone is in the same boat and we all want to see the game continue.
Too many 50's to list here's a few you may know.

A lot of us here in the EU were embittered by what happened with the closing of the UK studio, but that blow was sweetened by the hard work of the community reps at the time - in particular, good ol' Avatea. Now there's one I still miss.
But we've not exactly given up. Hell, I just sent this. I figure there's enough emails asking to save the game, but Valve will probably be more interested in another asset...

Hi Gabe. If you're reading this, by now you've no doubt seen a number of other mails on the subject of the CoH announcement by NCSoft, so I won't bore you by repeating details - except to say that I too would be exceedingly grateful if Valve does pick up CoH. I've long been a fan of not just the games that Valve develops and supports, but of your successful efforts to transform the way the videogame industry looks today.
I offer instead a different suggestion. Paragon Studios, the developer working on CoH right up until the announcement, are a fantastic developer. They have time and time again become involved with the CoH community, and shown commitment to supporting and improving a fantastic game. At the time of the news, the game was on the verge of being updated with issue 24, a wide-ranging patch fixing a large number of problems once thought impossible to resolve with the game's older engine. This was received in great stead by those of us who tested the beta version of the patch, and in my eyes at least shows the talent, skill and ethic that is being laid to waste here.
The team at Paragon was 80+ strong but has very suddenly been laid off. I implore you - if you cannot save the game - please look into what you can do to pick up the staff, who will suffer the most from the game's cancellation.
If you're interested, hop onto the forums at boards.cityofheroes.com and have a look at the Dev and Community Digests for a glance back at what they've done for us (bearing in mind that most of the staff can no longer post from their previous positions). I promise, you won't regret it.
Yours crossed-fingeredly,
Matt Read (a long-time Valve fan).

My contribution:
By now you've gotten a ton of emails from us desperate City of Heroes fans. I cannot stress to you how wonderful and expansive this game is. For the casual gamer like myself, it is the SINGLE subscription based game I have actually dedicated myself to for four years. It is the ONLY game that I have actually dedicated time and money to.
I don't have a lot of patience for multiple games. But this is a game that I would continue to spend my money on if it weren't being nuked by NC Soft. I would gladly hand my money over to VALVe if you were the ones to pick it up, if that is even possible. If not City of Heroes, then, please, see about hiring the Developers from Paragon Studios. They have been utterly excellent in not just developing the best MMORPG I have played, but are great with us, the consumers as well. These guys deserve a job, if nothing else.
Thank you for your time,
Dee

Do you think it would be possible top sticky this thread?
It would be better to sticky the general coordination thread instead, but I'm not sure if it'd be a good idea.

Dear Mr Newell
At this point you have probably received a large number of emails wishing ValvE to consider picking up City of Heroes that NCSoft has decided to drop. I would like to add my voice to that growing chorus.
It should be clear that CoH has a dedicated fan base, not only judging by the emails you and maybe others at ValvE have received but also by the forum campaigns, the petitions and the facebook pages concerning this.
My wife and i started playing back in 2006 and to this day we hold other MMOs up to the measuring stick that for us is CoH and even after so many years few of them even come close to it.
The CoH community is fighting for the game and a number of us are hoping that ValvE will be the ones to save it. Appreciate anything you are able to do. Thank you for your time.
Best regards
I also sent of some emails to VALVe. I firmly believe the acquisition of the City of Heroes intellectual property by VALVe would in its and our community's best interest.
Vive la City of Heroes!
Bump! Any responses?

Tumblr CoH Faces DeviantArt Ask for: Facebook
not yet, although with as many emails as they are prolly getting it might be easier for them to just make a public statement
Not that I know of - that said, according to Golden Girl's post in another thread -
" [Admin] Alpha Wolf: Sorry guys but I don't have any new update. I know Paragon management is having discussion with ncsoft and investors. Continue get people to sign online petitions, post on game forums, and just continue to make noises so ncsoft cannot ignore players."
- there's still hope.
Also, can some of the more socially-connected players spread the word as well, possibly even get some sort of concerted effort going, maybe even try and get some of the gaming sites and magazines on board? I would but I don't even have Twitter. If anyone can get a hold of gaming magazine writers and ask them to write about various other initiatives as well, like the Titan Network's attempts of acquiring the IP, the petition and the like.
