Powerset Wise, What Comic Book Staples Are We Still Missing?
Psi melee definitely, however I know how they always do Psi in this game its always watered down. It should do the most damage period if you consider how things are in the comics when you look at Jean Grey and others. We get the watered down version while the npcs can still one shot (1 shot code does not work always) us with their awsome psi attacks. Thats how I see psi melee going. Or they will make it so its like psi/lethal instead of psi/smashing and Robots will just go "Lol psi melee", just like how the current crey power tanker go "Lol lethal damage". People always try to make the crappy arguement that resists are even throughout the game but failed to realize that you kill more stuff at lvl 50 than you at any other time. Levels 1-49 are like a blink in time considering what you face at 50 and thats what should matter.

Thank You Devs for Merits!!!!
Optic blasts could work quite well, actually.
Quick blast (animation showed above)
Maintained blast (A more maintained version with chance for KD)
Cone sweep (just turn your head while blasting)
Build Up
Piercing gaze (a small, quick, tightly focused beam that hits super hard, chance for KD and disorient)
Spin around (PbAoE)
Multi blast (Just looking all over and shooting with reckless abandon)
Decimating blast (a very powerful version of Maintained blast with chance to KB)
Disruptive blast (Aim at the floor under your enemy. Blow it up and send them all flying. Targeted AoE with KU)
At the end of the day, though, the concept would work just as well if the devs gave "eye blast" animations to the various blast sets instead of creating a whole new powerset.
In regards to the much vaunted Blast/Armor AT, you realize that for balance purposes, the blasts and armor would have to be so weak that you'd be better suited just getting a Corruptor some defense bonuses and calling it a day? I realize that wouldn't give you shoulder-mounted rockets or wrist lasers, but ah well.
As for a Batman like character? SJ (or MA)/WP (or SR) + Temp + Dayjob powers =)

Allied to all sides so that no matter what, I'll come out on top!
Oh, and Crimson demands you play this arc-> Twisted Knives (MA Arc #397769)
/facepalm
The reason we don't have Web Control and Exploding Cards (outside of Web Grenade, Web Envelope, and Entangling Arrow) is that it's a very specific power of one very specific character. The GMs wouldn't be able to generic the copyrighted characters fast enough. As for throwing shields, that was discussed at length when Shield Defense was in beta; it's an animation/power mechanics thing (the same as stretching/elastic attacks), plus the aforementioned cloning issue. If you only want to blast eye beams, take that one attack and don't use anything else. There isn't a lot of animation variation, at least not enough to devote an entire powerset to it. |
Point 2: In the new Martial Power Sets, theres a power that allows you to throw a ninja star, and it "bounces" from enemy to enemy. Quite literally they said bounce in the text.
Point 3: "Easy" problem to solve, but quite boring. Allow for each power in Energy Blast to use one of the 2 "eye blast" animations. Then change the energy SFX's point of origin to the eyes. Boring, but done.
Cant think of any specific power type missing except from whats already mentioned. But what I do see whats missing is a Hybrid type AT.
I get why we dont have these, a lot fo toons would be way overpowered, or some wouldnt have any offense whatsoever, making lvling near impossible.
But!
I still dont understand... "Hi im a mutant who shoots fire and turns my body into fire, but dang, if you shoot fire at me it burns!!!"
They sorta solved this problem with Ancillary Powers... but... for me, not good enough :P
Things like an eye beam only powerset, or wrist canons, etc... I'd put into power customization category, not necessarily a powerset that is missing.
Some of the powers that I see missing would be:
Elasticity: the ability to stretch limbs to attack, immoblize, hold foes
Partial Shape Shifting: this pertains to changing limbs into assorted weapons
Animal Shape Shifting: - in truth I see this more of an epic AT than power set - changing into different animals each having a subset of different attacks and travel powers. Example: Jungle Cat / Wolf - beast run power attacks include claw strike, bite, and double-claw rakes. Gorilla - super jump attacks include several different punches w/ stuns side effects. Serpent - super speed, coil (crushing damage chance for hold), venom bite - high damage attack with chance to paralyze and debuff resistance
Stick-Fighting
Whip Melee
Nunchucks
Thrown Weapons
Missing Travel Powers: wall walking (not necessarily wall crawling), grappling gun / rope / whip swing
The issue with "shield throwing" isn't in the "bouncing from enemy to enemy," IIRC. It's the "We can't animate the shield on your arm *as well as* the shield projectile, because of the way the costume part of the actual shield works. It would look silly if you threw your shield and it was still attached to your arm, plus the obvious power balance issue of having to wait until the shield comes back in order to use your "shield bash" or whatever.
As I've said upthread, I have absolutely no issue with extending the eye-beam animation to other powers, but it wouldn't look "Cyclopsy" enough with the Energy Blast Kirby dots for people, I'd guess.
Carl and Sons @Aurora Girl (Pinnacle)
I see what you're saying, but how do you fill out a whole set with this idea? I could see a Mind control variant where a confuse was traded for a body jump. But, as a whole set, it doesn't seem feasible.

Mind Master Mastermind. I know, crazy, right?
While not ideal, it'd give you more power. And it'd let you take over more guys and give you more control. Seems like you'd still have to figure out if allies can still attack your guys or not.
Not sure how it would work for entering instances, because I think MM pets seem to get resummoned when the cross between zones and instances.
Storm Summoning is wind awesomeness but we Wind folks need more! Fire has so much AT love it's just plain silly! Also more Water love but I think we will see more down the line especially considering how much everyone loves water blast.
Yesh, optic blast would be AWESOME and the Martial Assault set gives me a Semi gambit vibe...I might for a similar theme.
I would love to see a Toxic or Poison melee set but Radiation Melee will probably cover that.
One thing I'd like (but that would be more proliferation than brand new sets) would be Elemental blast/assault/control/melee (and maybe (de)buff and armour sets too). Basically a set that has a selection of the powers from ice/fire/elec/earth/water with maybe a couple of new powers.
I think a probability manipulation (de)buff set could be cool. And I'd love a full leadership (de)buff power set.
Always remember, we were Heroes.

Also, consider that they wouldn't go running around willy nilly. They have to attack from wherever you are all the time. Maybe it's too much power.

Needless to say, I'm really looking forward to the changes to the Fighting and Presence power pools.
super strength covers 90% of super heroes
guns covers 4%
sword covers 3%
everything else is maybe 5 characters per powerset
so you could add stretching for the 4 characters that have it (including Super Skrull), flame powers for the 8 characters that have it (including the Elementals)
but there are no other comic book staple powersets - there are just iconic characters that have powers

Response: "Hooble!"
Hooble: To pull statistical data from a nether orifice and display it as wisdom.

I think it might have to be it's own AT...
Powered Armor Suits are too generic and easy to emulate (costume creator + blast set = voila!... whatever power armor suits your fancy).

we are missing:
1. cosmic powers
2. powers that create light constructs or plasma constructs
3. full shape shifting
4. telescopic joints and such ala stretch things or machine man extension
5. actual growth and shrinking
*though seriously i never liked growth and shrinking stuff other then just for fun*
6. Vehicles
7. pet or sidekick leveling
*ei that stupid pet thing we buy from the market in some games or some how capture or earn in game...and end up spending lots of time trying to level it and feed it and keep it happy while buying more stuff form the market or earn in game that will make it look cool or evolve it...all becasue we wanted to have a pet that does like a little bit extra damage in combat or helps us heal or somethign silly or can pull it out to show that we do in fact have the 4th evolved sappling and now it looks like a giant tree pet we can pull out and use as a meat shield....as in Perfect World made me do this in their Jade Dynasty Game...because i needed to have that cool looking and useful pet..took me years to get it as bogus as it is*
8. Toxic Sets
had to edit these in...
9. A true magic set...maybe sets that use graphics like in Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha.
*I really liked the way this series did the magical emblems and patterns on the ground and in front when they did a blast or something..this would be excellent inthis game*
Also their cartridge system reminded me of someone using inspirations.
10. Maybe some super Blaster Magic Sword sets like used in Fate Stay Night or perhaps Campione
*becasue nothing says I am bogus more then summoning 100s of magic swords to pincussion your enemy*
Two others I'm somewhat suprised we haven't seen for Masterminds: generic Cops and generic Robbers.
Thugs is great, but really specific. Same with Ninjas (and that Oni just... ugh).
Plants as a Mastermind set might work.

That also means that you are saying there are literally thirty super-strength characters for each character who doesn't have super-strength, guns, or swords.
So if I name, say, Cyclops, Storm, Wolverine, Green Lantern, Flash, Black Lightning, and three-quarters of the Fantastic Four (minus the Thing), you can name literally 270 super-strength characters?
.. or perhaps were you engaging in a weeeeeee bit of hyperbole?

BTW RE: Growth/Shrink, here's how I'd consider approaching that:
The grow/shrink ability itself is a single power. Picking it gives you access to two toggles, one for Shrinking and one for Growing. Each time you click one you advance one stage up or down in scale, up to 2 sizes smaller or 2 sizes larger. I'll break those down by scale here:
Miniscule (invisible, maiintain x.35 character model so we can still target you though)
Small (x.35 character model)
Normal
Tall (X1.25 character model)
Huge (x2.5 character model)
As Growth increases, you gain an increasing chance to proc radial AoE damage, 7ft radius, from any single target attack. Your Max HP also increase.
As Shrink increases, your Stealth goes up, and your resistance to Endurance Drain, Regen debuff, and defense debuff increases.
Every time you shift in size, you expend Endurance but gain some HP. However, you can only gain HP by shifting to a particular size once every 30 seconds. [Technically: shifting places a temporary flag on you to prevent healing for switching to that size again] To keep your Health up, you will need to shift sizes every so often. You will also need to strategize a "direction" of the shift, so you don't get caught at one end of the spectrum and forced to shift several times for your next heal.
Some environments will naturally limit your ability to be Huge, but that's no different than some environments naturally limiting some other sets (e.g. Traps and flying). If you need to move through a door, for example, you will want to shift down first.
Back on topic: One power set I think is missing from the game and I haven't really ever seen mentioned before is a "Super Team" Mastermind. The character plays the role of the MM (Support) and the three levels of pet would represent a Blaster-ish Toon, a Tank-ish Toon, and a Controller-ish Toon. You'd only get four pets, but it would be a cool concept, like if your toon was running around with Fusionette (blaster), Frostfire (troller) and Faultline (tank). Then again, it might be lame if multiple people had the same set on a team and the pets were all identical but supposed to be different...
