Did we really need more mohawks? We have the fauxhawk, the tall mohawk, the small mohawl, the Resistance mohawk, the two Cybertech mohawks and now this one...

So no one should be allowed to play an appropriately dressed villain then?

It's not just heroes that get costume pieces you know.

Not to mention that hockey-mask-wearing, hockey-stick-swinging maniac pretty much describes Casey Jones, and he's a hero in the TNMT universe. RP arguments about what's "heroic" will always fail for the simple fact that a hero isn't made by a spawning idea, but rather by the narrative which brings this idea to light. In the hands of a good enough writer, everything can be heroic. I have a succubus who feeds on people's life essences and leaves them consumed and she's a hero just fine.

*edit*
And I'm VERY interested in the new backpacks. The golf bag doesn't move me, but the two other ones just might. I have at least one giant robot character that I've wanted to give a big technological backpack to, but there really isn't one right now. We have jetpacks, wings, magical floating back details and that AWFUL brown boiler, but nothing that looks high-tech. This, I hope, will fix that.

I'm also really hating the idea that Casey Jones isn't "Hero" enough for this game all of a sudden.

Anyways. All my hopes and dreams rest on the "cornrows" in this set. I Really. Really. REALLY hope that, regardless of anything else, they come in "Clean" and "dirty" styles. It would really suck to have one of the only available Black hairstyle to be added to this game in years be only available caked in dirt.

Personally I'm loving the look of the set as a whole. My main problem with it is less that there's another mohawk, and more that "Eww eww eww! Nails through head! Eww!!!!"

Just so long as the detail is in the Hair section and the same Detail area as Horns or some such so that we can have them sticking through regular hair, and I am happy. I can think of at least one character who might sport that look.

Ahem.

I have villain characters. Have since CoV launch, thank you very much. The Arachnos-trained assassin, the unwitting demon summoner taken over by her charge, etc. etc. I sympathize with the villain lobby, certainly.

Will some people be able to "conceptualize" a fugly, dirty hockey mask and chainsaw into a kitty-saving hero? Absolutely. Thus is the power of this community and the imagination of superpowered fans.

However, will the vast majority of everyone else make Jason Voorhees and Casey Jones? Yes. Overwhelmingly yes.

Mad Max: Crazy dude with a gun.
Ash: Crazy dude with a bigger gun. (Don't get me wrong, I love Bruce Campbell. Marvel Zombies appearance notwithstanding, Ash is not a superhero. He's a heroic character. There's a difference.)
Casey Jones: Stoner with a hockey stick who somehow manages not to get killed fighting ninjas.
Jason Voorhees: Badly psychologically damaged serial killer with mommy issues and a big knife who hunts white people who act like they, too, are mentally damaged.

Maybe I'm having a crisis of inspiration because of my recent glut of well-conceived magical/technologic/science-based character creation and my creative juices are momentarily tapped, but I stand by these costume themes as not the best use of Dink's significantly amazing design abilities.

"Well, Timmy, you can have any super power you want! You can fly, set people on fire, move stuff with your mind! What do you want to do?"

"I wanna crawl through a dumpster and hit things with a golf club!"

...works better if it were released during the Halloween event. This is a "Zombie Invasion Survival" set, if anything.

Tank Girl did pretty darned well.

I'd go crazy over a set with Tank Girl stuff - the ripped fishnets alone would guarantee a sale here!

This appears to just be more boy stuff (including boys playing girls who look like boys, the point of which is completely lost on me), which is fine. I think between this set, Cyberpunk, Mecha and Space Pirates, you guys have been amply paid us back for the Carnie set, and then some! Glad you're getting pieces you want - enjoy!

THAT would be awesome for my Claw/SR scrapper, Human Chainsaw

Also, I hope the backtank has a biohazard sign on it... and maybe some fluids dripping out of it.

Dink, I really love the concept and will get the set....but a golfbag backpack? Really? LOLOL That is the only item I am really 'meh' about. (I would buy an arrow quiver backpack in a flash and hope you can create one someday.) Thanks for all your hard work for us, and am looking forward to the finished set.

i think the nails mohawk would add more if it was a bihawk, trihawk, or even went full (cenobite) Pinhead. The Freakshow have several models with bihawks.

Yes, but it's not a meaningful one. There's no mandate that everything in City of Heroes has to conform to American comic books as published by DC and Marvel. I leave Image Comix out of this, because they gave us heroes like Pitt.

Pretty much the saddest thing that could happen to City of Heroes is to turn what made the game so versatile in the first place into the anchor around the neck which keeps it limited. Comic books as an argument for game additions should only ever be used to argue for something to be added and never against adding something.

I don't much care for the theme, but the parts look well-made so far.

I, too, would like to see grime-free versions of them. (I'd love to know, by the way, how surprised Dink and other costume folks are by how many people have requested that. I am always interested in what surprises the developers in this kind of endeavor.)

What exactly do you think Casey Jones is?

Quote:

That's kind of off.

See, Casey Jones is, a guy, in a mask, who goes out at night.. and, you know, fights criminals In New York. Like, you know, pretty much the entire Non X-men and Avengers Marvel Universe.
He doesn't have any powers. He's just a tough Fighter.

I can see the (bad) logic behind "Oh this Post Apocalyptic theme doesn't fit the game" but you're shooting yourself in the foot by constantly making Casey Jones comparisons.

Hell, if this was explicitly a Casey Jones-esque Pack It'd be the ONLY pack based on contemporary Costumed Crimefighters they've made.

Add my voice to the pile. I want to see cleaner versions of the parts, as well. One of the great things about the City of Heroes costume creator is our ability to repurpose existing costume pieces to look like something other than what they were originally intended to be. The less specific pieces are to a particular theme, the wider their use will be.

What Sam said, times one billion.

The genre-jamming aspect of character and costume creation is my favorite part of this game.

Suh-Weet! Looking forward to this costume set. I agree that the welding helmet would be a neat addition and how about those bibbed overalls for those post-apocalyptic mutant hillbillys?

Um, I can think of LOTS of powersets in this game already that aren't supernatural in origin. Street Justice, Willpower, Martial Arts, Archery, Trick Arrow, Assault Rifle, Dual Pistols, War Mace, Battle Axe, Devices, Traps, Dual Blades, Shield Defense, Staff Melee, the Fighting power pool, etc.

"I want to ignore pain while hitting people with a rusty shovel!" is already possible in this game. (In fact, there's two ways to build it, since both Battle Axe and War Mace have the shovel option)

So if your character concept is "human vigilante who is not also a multi-gazillionaire like Batman", what do you think their gear is going to look like? Even Back Alley Brawler's original costume looks hastily cobbled together, with those scratched-up shoulder pads and gloves.

Put me in the camp that heard this concept coming out of the pummit and went "uh... oh... sounds....um... yeah"

Now seeing this, I see good work there, but still nothing that I'll jump up and buy. That said, I have no problem with those that can and will use this getting their options expanded. Good for them.

I'll echo the clean/grimy option - for those that may want to integrate these pieces into other concepts that helps flexibility (not much different than pre-tinting really).

And I'm also... befuddled... by characterizing the golf bag as a quiver option when no actual quiver has been ponied up since backpacks got introdcued after years of stated desire for all the various archery set characters.

City of Heroes was my first MMO, & my favorite computer game.

The set looks great thus far! I personally would like clean versions for a few things as well, but it is what it is.

More weapons please? There is a lot you could do with this set's theme.

looking at the pictures my take per piece

nail mohawk - I bet this gets a lot of use on brutes. Now people can make a trollslayer engineer.

tire shoulder pads - they look really good, but they look just like spiked tire shoulder pads. Someone will find a use for them, but they are not very generic. I would love a non-spiked version that you could use on robots as faux transformers

tire gloves - as shoulder pads

mask - a mask is great for men, if we get a clean version we can color

chest protector - I can see this being used for a lot of natural characters who want a slightly armored look. X-wing pilots maybe

toolbelt - I can see robot MM's using this and it being used by people who make secret ID outfits. Not a lot of uses for it though.

pants - really want a clean version without the wrap around one leg but with the kneepads. Again, a good look for natural characters with some armor. Skateboarders or motorcyclists, or mechanics.

golf bag - too big to be anything besides a golf bag. probably won't be used any more than the hiking pack is - which is very, very rarely

It all looks good. My only request would be straps on the side of the hockey mask so it does not look glued on.
