I'm in the Crazy 88's and I have a number of legacy bases left over from back in the day. Not being able to pay base rent was one of the few genuine annoyances of being Premium.

If you're burned out, you're burned out.
but your logic doesn't necessarily apply to anyone else.

What happens to your characters when you drop down to Premium, Remus, is that they initially all get locked (not deleted) and you recieve a minimum of two global slots to unlock characters you want to play. That minimum of two does increase based on (a) the amount of veteran character slots you unlocked under the old reward system, and (b) any other character slots you've purchased through either legacy means (the menu in the old character select screen) or the Paragon Market.
EDIT: Your ability to acutally unlock characters depends on reward tier (access to CON and MM is a Lv5 Paragon Reward bonus) or whether you've bought them or any of the Epic Archetypes through the market.

I lead a SG as a Premium, but I'm lucky to have another officer who is committed to subscribing in order to take care of the administrative duties I can't accomplish.

Depending on your Paragon Reward tier, you may still be able to fully use the auction house, which is unlocked as a Lv4 bonus.

Losing touch with your friends shouldn't be an issue unless you decide to delete your local and global friends list, which puts the onus on you for not wanting to keep in touch with them in the first place.

I am not a burn out like this man but part of what he is saying does make sense. I thing revamping zones is good but really up dating the old stuff would be great. Redo some of the old tile sets (blue caves of death) and some of the villain groups as well as a zone with all the missions there in. example (zone steel canyon as there are tsoo there do a part of the area as a small china town revamp the tsoo you could do a new tile set with an Asian theme or not. redo the blue cave set or not etc.....

If I were to take a break from CoX, it means turning off my subscription, because I'm not going to pay for a game that I'm not playing. Once I do that, the following happens:
  • My SG fees can't be paid, so my SG base goes dark and eventually vanishes.
Second part is false. The base does not vanish.
  • I miss out on months of VIP stipend, which means if I do return I'll be functionally behind -- new content that used to be given to subscribers for free now costs points, and I won't have points to pay for it.
Partly false. Only some new content has to be bought. And if 'keeping up with the Joneses' is important.... <shrug>
  • All my items in the auctionhouse vaporize.
    So remove them. duh.
  • I lose touch with all my in-game friends, so that when I return I have to start over alone.
I don't know who your friends are or how many you have. From *MY* experience, however, that's total BS.
  • Not sure what happens to my characters -- all of them except two become locked? All of them but two are deleted?
All except 'X' get locked. Can't say how many without knowing what you have bought in the past and how long you played before Freedom went live. No one gets deleted.
  • Meanwhile, I'll be building persistent worth in another game (whatever game that is) that will encourage me to stay there.
<shrug> Not like your 'persistent worth' here will vanish.

That's a lot of reasons to make any separation from the game permanent. It's not a real choice to 'take a break' and come back later. The choice is whether to stay or to go, forever.
Actually, it's a lot of nonsense. Of course, it's your money and your time so you're free to do whatever you choose.

If you are not playing you dont need your SG. If others are in your SG, they can pay rent. It doesnt disapear when you have no rent, its just unusable until its paid up.

Use the money you save not subscribing to buy points when you come back.

They don't.

Items in email do, but any character can free them before you leave.

Not such good friends if they wont stay global friends with you while you take a break.

No character is deleted.
You get all your charaters back once you start paying again.

You dont -have- to return if you are having more fun elsewhere.

I don't suffer from altitis, I enjoy every minute of it.

Thank you Devs & Community people for a great game.

So sad to be ending ):

I'll agree with this statement. I believe Cryptic is very embarrassed that this 8 year old game they created which they couldn't wait to sell off with it's 8 year old content has blown their NEWER Super Hero game with all it's bells and whistles right out of the water.

I did a bit of beta and a few hours live - the horror eventually wore me down

I did that and also briefly tried it again a bit later when certain things were supposedly improved, but found it to still be not very fun. Indeed, I got more enjoyment out of the OTHER superhero MMO, with all of ITS problems. But ultimately I still ended up back here. I keep hoping that a better superhero RPG will pop up...

Yeah, same here, played it a couple months after it went live - and the biggest thing that hurt that game was its very own selling point - getting rid of ATs.

Everyone was making tankmages and never teaming until forced to - I mean, everyone that wasn't logged in as a couple was soloing and building tankmages - grab a shield, grab regen, and go to town.

I have no idea what it is like nowadays, but their other sci-fi MMO is pretty terrible too I hear.

I think my "problem" is that CoH was my first mmo and I compare every one I have tried to it and frankly none of them meet the same results of ease of use/fun for me.

I know I got burnt out on the game a few years ago. I kept my sub active and would pop in to take a glance at the new shinys or to just fly around on one of my favorite heroes for an hour but I wasn't really paying attention.

When Staff Fighting came out I figured it would be a good time to go ahead and give CoX a fresh look since I've been wanting Staff Fighting forever. They have added so much since I stopped really paying attention that this game feels almost new to me. I've been having a blast playing the game again.

The ironic part is I'm not even playing with the Staff Fighting character I made.

I got burnt out a few months ago, yesterday was my first time playing since mid February. My greatest joy in this game is teaming, the second is creating a new character and taking them to 50. I never was too interested in playing 50's, when a character hit 50 they went on the shelf. When they introduced server transfers I'd transfer them to another server to make room for new alts.

I've got 24 50's. I had 2 accounts to hold all of the characters I've made and played. But the new shift to all of the content for the 50's left things pretty bare in the lower levels, sometimes it's very hard to find a team when I'm able to play. I actually let one of my accounts go F2P.

Yesterday I made a new character a Dark/Dark Dominator and I've been having a blast playing him. picked up a few teams and had a great time. I don't usually play during the day so the real test will be this Friday and Saturday night, my usual playing times and see how the teamage works then. I actually transferred my favorite 50 back to Virtue from where he was parked on Freedom, my all human Warshade, I had the most fun taking him to 50 of all my characters. I'm going to give it a shot, if you can't beat 'em join 'em.

I dunno if playing 50's with all the alpha slot jive will ever match the joy I had leveling up characters, hearing the DING, getting new powers and slots (I know that the alpha slot thing is almost the same, but not really) but I'm willing to give it a shot. One of the things that, I think, is the most boring about it is doing the same stuff over and over to get the threads and whatever else you need to fill those slots, but whatever, I'll give it a shot. Maybe I'll end up liking it.

So far the Incarnate stuff hasn't overly impressed me. Well I take that back. I love the Alpha slot but everything after that has been kinda meh to me.

Pretty much the same here. Tried two others to date. Both had terrible UI design, one was horrible for a new comer, the other was repetitively grindy even at low levels. It will be a very class act that finally pries me away from CoH.

Interface is pretty awesome. Destiny comes in handy but yeah, all of those are situational.
