Yeah, I'm pretty amazed myself. Teaches the devs about doin' something nice. I think they should go around and nerf every AT and put in ED for set bonuses and require micro transactions to have access to power pools, double the amount for APP/PPPs per toon.

NCSOFT may take away our servers and beloved dev team, but they can't break our spirit and community. with all your power, NCSOFT, your victory will be bitter-sweet. I, personally will be there to laugh at you when you face-plant into the ground.

The item is given to you through a Market transaction. You go to the Paragon Market, select the item, add it to your cart and check out. The only difference is that it costs you zero paragon points. If the item isn't something you want, you're more than welcome to not put it in your cart.

Not that I'm an expert or have secret knowledge about this promotion, but I'm going to answer this anyway:

Sure, just don't log into the market and click on it. If you can't NOT do that, then, well... maybe see a doctor about your compulsive behavior?

EDIT: Bro-fist for Hit Streak.

Between that comment and the image in your post, I'm suddenly now wondering:

Is it okay to look a dead gift horse in the mouth?

This thread would blow the dead horse up and then complain about that.

Heck, left to its own devices, I'm pretty sure nature would take care of that by itself. As proven with the honey badger, nature can be quite nasty.

Confirmed: Free item to be (1) super pack.

This will get people to use the market, AND expose them to super packs and the fun therein.

I accept your offer of: (1) super pack.

Or whatever else it is regardless. Awsome free stuff is awsome.

I'm not saying an AE slot would be a perfect item to give out for free, that was more just me nudging them about maybe putting those slots on sale at some point. (Infusing the community with more talk about the architect was a good topic to try and engender though, IMO.)

And people will always complain, always, yeah, sure. But I think there's a sharp difference between a random number of people randomly losing out thanks to a blind gamble and a specific range of people not getting use out of a particular week's offering.

Oh, if Friday you're Free, why don't you come with me, and we'll poison the pigeons in the park?

So I've posted a couple of silly posts, I'll post a serious one.

Thanks for this, and I think it's a great idea! If you're a free/premium player who is restricted from some of what we VIPs and longer-time premium players kind of take for granted, this will probably aid greatly in your enjoyment of the game.

I hope it goes over well and has good participation rate, as I'd like to see it continue.

This is POPPYCOCK.

The development team and this community deserved better than this from NC Soft. Best wishes on your search.

That's Eastern time. Your accessible time frame will be from 7:00pm on Thursday until 7:00pm on Friday. You will probably not receive any warning that your 24 hours is up, you'll just have to make a mental note of it.

If you miss one, I seriously doubt it will be a big deal. It sounds like they'll just be doling out some of the lesser-priced consumables. Worst case scenario, if they're giving out something you simply have to have, you can always buy some for cheap on the Paragon Store.

Edit: That's Eastern Standard Time. Eastern Daylight Time is UTC-0400. If you are literally at -5 right now, you're on Central Daylight Time, and your window will be from 6:00pm Thursday until 6:00pm on Friday.

No doubt. Still, from what Black Pebble said on the Ustream, it sounds like some not-insignificant percentage of the playerbase is not using the market at all, and this is a way to nudge people into at least opening it up and having a look. Nothing wrong with that, of course.

2. An assertion that twenty-four hours is a poor definition of a day.

3. The inevitable reference to addiction and gambling that occurs when the dev team does something related to addiction and gambling, such as displacing air or absorbing gravitons.

4. A red name unable to tell time.

5. At least one accusation of desperation.

6. Some confusion over how many times "once" is.

7. A slap in the face.

8. Some discussion about what specific thing "almost anything" probably actually refers to.

Would you mind if I just worship the ground you walk on? I'll be as unobtrusive as possible.

Where to find me after the end:
The Secret World - Arcadia - Shinzo
Rift - Faeblight - Bloodspeaker
LotRO - Gladden - Aranelion
STO - Holodeck - @Captain_Thiraas

Obviously, I don't care about NCSoft's forum rules, now.

What I hope its like:

Everbody gets a free car! You get a car! And you get a car! And you get a car too!

What I think its like:

You get a st. Louis Slammer! You get a bubble of patrol XP! You get a freebee badge! And you get 1,000,000 Debt!!!!!!

Its all good I'll hit the button and take me chances.

I think the Freebie, once it goes live for good, should be random, with a small chance of something that buffs and "debuffs", just like a Fortune, or turns you into a random NPC for 60 seconds, like the Mutation. This would cover all the bases in the "I'll never use this because of X" game that some players like to play. The very small chance that something not good would happen might send them into orbit. They'd be able to complain about something being both free and a punishment.

Loose --> not tight.
Lose --> Did not win, misplace, cannot find, subtract.
One extra 'o' makes a big difference.

If only there was something you could do with them...

Freebie Friday is a new test program in the Paragon Market where all players, Free, Premium and VIP, can claim (only once per offer) a random free item! The item could be almost anything currently available in the Paragon Market and will change every week! Currently, we plan for each promotional item to be available for 24 hours. For the trial run, we’ll be putting the item up at 4:00 PM PDT/7:00 PM EDT/12:00 AM BST this Thursday, May 10th, 2012. The item will be available until the same time (4:00 PM PDT) on Friday, May 11th, 2012. You can find the Freebie Friday item under the “Featured Items” section of the Paragon Market.

It’s pretty simple:

Step 1: Play City of Heroes Freedom!
Step 2: Log in and claim your Freebie Friday item from the Paragon Market!
Step 3: ????
Step 4: PROFIT!*

(*Please note that there is technically no profit since the item is free.)

Join us in testing a potentially new regular feature for the Paragon Market and please feel free to leave your feedback in the Community Discussion below!

Gee, that sounds really familiar...

Always good to reaffirm that I've got my finger on the pulse of the development team, I guess.

Except that it won't be random (this time), and everybody will be getting the exact same freebie, so there's no element of chance whatsoever.

(Unless the freebie is a/some Super Pack(s), in which case, yeah, there's actually some chance involved.)
