It runs from 00:00 to 23:59 on Friday in the UK, chief.

Whether it will remain that way once the "beta version" is over remains to be seen, but it is nice to see them schedule something with the UK players in mind first and foremost.

All I have to say is... even if they did promise the moon... I'd be completely overjoyed to get a moon rock!!
Besides... A moon rock would 1) be something I could do something with (like place it on a shelf or as a centerpiece on a table or throw at idiots) and 2) it'd mean that the moon was still properly in orbit (as silly of an orbit as it may be) and wouldn't mean major changes in the sky, the tides and people's wonderfully calm and well-adjusted attitudes!!

Glad I only missed an inspiration... Next week, hopefully I'll remember and collect all those character costume slots they're sure to give away!!

But that can't be right.
Woah now, if I was allergic to sarcasm I'd be in hospital right now. All I meant is that a free inspiration doesn't make people feel like the really need to use the Paragon Market at least once a week to see what great item is on offer, which I'm assuming is the intent of the promotion. I understand, now, that it's only going to be a consumable, which I'm fine with. A free insp is better than a free nothing, but the "almost anything" wording gave me the impression that if you kept at it long enough you'd get something really special, kinda like what they did with the Super Packs.

Haven't read the entire thread, nor do I plan to. Whats the point? Read a few posts of people complaining (which seemed to be a growing trend in regard to the Freebie Friday thing.) and decided to just skip to the end and post something myself.

First off, I would like to say THANK YOU!! Thanks for even having the idea of giving away one free item a week. Thanks again for actually trying it out. Also, please don't listen to all the self entitled, whiny ******* on here complaining because they didn't get a powerset or purp IO set for free. Let'em whine and complain for awhile, they'll get over it soon enough, or simply move on to the next new thing to whine about.

Again..THANK YOU, and keep up the great work.

If they change it to meet your individual criteria for the hours it will likely inconvenience someone else.

IIRC, they have to enable and disable this manually anyway, so your suggestion would be that someone from Paragon Studios (possibly either Ghost Falcon or Alpha Wolf) should have to stay up extra late on two consecutive days just to make things more convenient for you rather than doing it doing their working hours?
Is there any particular reason this freebie NEEDS to be limited to 24 hours? The devs clearly have the tech to keep us from picking it up multiple times, so why not leave it up for a couple days or even the whole week? They could still kick the promotion off on Friday (for some arbitrary definition of Friday), but I don't see why the sale needs to last only 24 hours.

Is there any particular reason they don't just automagically GIVE it to everyone without forcing them to log in and check the market?

Obviously.

Ditto for the time limit- it's not arbitrary. It's long enough to give the vast majority of interested players an opportunity to log in and claim it, short enough to be meaningful.

It isn't perfect for everyone, but then nothing short of the aformentioned automagic gifting would be.

Well, what I expected by "Account Wide Item" was an item that would be useable by all toons on my account, a one time use consumable does not qualify for that. What I expect, is that people who have a job 'speaking' (putting out statements) to the public, to know what the words they are using mean! Something these people have been really, incredibly bad at for years now. (they can't even get primary and secondary colors right sometimes anymore, or even the word "long"!?!?!) I expect people to take pride in their work, meaning to put out work that is worth being proud of, not being proud of trash, but that seems to be the way all gaming companies are going these days. Guess that's what happens in a culture that can bribe their way into getting good reviews on gaming sites (and no I am not saying this company does buy reviews, but others have, and even others have even posed as customers to give consumer reviews). I don't really care about the item, it's the principal, that's what I care about, something so many people don't have any more...
For the last time,

http://www.dictionary.com

And yes, a costume piece would have been nice, a hat, a belt, a pair of shoes... an emote, whatever, (the "slap your own face" emote would have been just awesome imo, that is something I would log in for) anything that could be useable by all toons on the account, as an 'account wide item' would indicate... and not some consumable item i have lots of (and never use) already. Maybe a use for the costume items and stuff they were not able to sell well, like the single hats and such. But, no, an IO would NOT be an account wide item, so no, I would not want that either. (personally I would be much happier if they would just give me the things I pay for, like the tokens, points, and token badges we were supposed to be getting, on time if at all, maybe if they spent more time making the game work right instead of advertising gimmicks they would be making more money... but no, it's all about more garbage for the market, as if more trash would make it better).

I am not complaining about the item itself, but the wording they used to get us to look at said item. I expected a consumable thing I didn't want and wouldn't bother to get, until they told me it was an "account wide item", then I expected something useful, but I will no longer do that, and probably never look at it again. There is no point to wasting the time it takes to load the slow store if they are going to be so blatantly misleading. Once bitten and all that.

What I expect, is not to be lied to, honesty, 'truth in advertising', we used to have laws about that. I expect that if you use words for a living that you be good with them, and know what they mean before you state them publicly (just like if you cook for a living I expect you to be good at making food, or if you drive for a living I expect you to be good at that). I expect people to have a work ethic, and want to do what they do better than anyone else (even if you don't like what you are doing)! I expect people to want to be the best there is at what they do, and if you can not, then look for another line of work.
Don't promise (or imply to) me one thing, and then give me something else. Most normal people are offended when they are lied to, or they used to be, I really don't know what is happening to us as a people that we accept such shoddy business practices. And work ethics seem dead in this country anymore. One would assume in a nation that has so few job openings, and so many people looking for work, that people would want to make sure they are the best they can be to keep their jobs and not be replaced by someone willing to work harder for less money, but I guess not enough people value learning enough to qualify any more. It's a really sad world we live in, and it gets dumber every year.

I expect, people not to let companies to lie to them. But I guess there are not many people left, only Sheepeople. Baaaaahhh. So just stand there and let them shave you and wait for the sweater they told you they were going to make out of it... (because you are not the one getting it, even if their wording implied it, the worst part is I had to add this footnote or many wouldn't get what that implied).

You just made my ignore list with this comment. I have never once heard someone making a solid argument that included calling opponents "sheeple," even if I agreed with their point to begin with.

Not that I agree with you in the least. You're nuts.

I disagree. Forcing people to use the market to get the freebie makes a certain amount of sense, since it does encourage you to interact with the market at all. Given how atrocious the interface is, the market can use all the encouragement it can get.

I see no similar benefit to limiting the time frame of that interaction to an arbitrary 24 hour window.

My suggestion would be that if you are going to put something in quotes to signify that it is what someone said, that you get the wording right.

Let's see what Moderator 19 actually said shall we? (Yes, I know Chad pointed it out previously when you first claimed they said Account Wide, but you apparently ignored that).

Gee, he said "Account based", not "Account Wide Item". There is a difference there. What is that difference? Being Account based means that it is tied to the Account that makes the purchase, not the Character that makes the purchase. In other words, you can "buy" it in the store using any character, but it can be claimed from the Character Items tab of email by any character on that account. As Chad noted, possibly not the best choice of wording, but not a fully incorrect wording.

Now, if he'd said that you claimed the items from your Account Items tab, then I'd say you have a point. But that's not what Moderator 19 said is it?

And seriously, Moderator 19 is pretty new to the game and some of the terminology. We have long-time employees that occasionally use the wrong word or phrase for something. It's not worth writing a wall of text over.

Some of my favorite comments by the Devs and OCR Team have been when someone has referred to Devices as Gadgets or used another internal name for something that we weren't familiar with.

They didn't say it was an "account wide item", they said "account based". We've been over this already, but you likely ignored it as you did when Chad pointed it out earlier in the thread after you used the wrong words the first time.

They didn't lie to us. You misinterpreted the words that were used and are trying to be righteously indignant because of your misinterpretation (and misquoting) of what was written.

They didn't promise or imply one thing and then deliver something else.

Your misinterpretation of what they said isn't proof of them breaking promises or lying.

Read A Book!
OK. So you resort to insulting the players? Classy move.

You misunderstand something someone says (and continually misquote what they said) and that makes the rest of us sheep that let the company lie to us? Well, first they'd have had to lie to us. They didn't.

Why not just admit that you misinterpreted (and misquoted) Moderator 19 and move on?

Oh right, you'd have to admit you made a mistake. And we all know you never make mistakes.

Please, no. I have no use for a lot of the things they will be giving away and I really don't want them cluttering things up or requiring me to claim and use them up just to get rid of them. As it is I can choose not to "purchase" it. Going to the market to look is not a problem. I've just changed from looking on Tuesday to see what's on sale that week to looking on Friday to see what's on sale and what the freebee is that week.

The point of having to log into the market to claim the item is--as has been mentioned several times previously in the thread--to get players who NEVER use the market to open it up and check it out. This allows them to become comfortable with the market's interface and increases the chances that they'll see something else that interests them in the market while they're there, meaning more potential income for Paragon Studios.

If you choose not to claim the free item, they're not going to lose any sleep over it. Especially since it seems you're not one to shy away from the market to begin with.

This is a tool to get players to sample products they may not purchase or even be aware existed. I am not expecting something for nothing.

I got a sample at Dairy Queen, but I was not allowed to walk out with a gallon of ice cream. If I don't like the sample, I can pitch it if I remember to even go.
