Are they supposed to be marketable or not? I tried to pop one on the market earlier, and it kept disappearing back into my enhancement tray. There wan't any system text about not being tradeable like you get with Reward Merits or other special non-marketable salvage, though.
-
Oh, is THAT what a squashed seal sounds like? I... uh.. didn't know.
-
I'm not complaining about the hat (I like free stuff, after all, and non-consumable free stuff is even better!) but wasn't the reason that we couldn't get the tall Circle of Thorns mage hat due to clipping? Granted I haven't seen this in game yet, only in the icon, but it looks pretty tall.
EDIT: Seen in game now. It is, indeed, pretty tall. And pretty sweet, too. -
-
To those complaining:
What were you seriously expecting to get for these Freebie Fridays? Costume pieces? IOs? Vanity pets? -
City of Heroes and City of Villains are no longer separate games. You cannot own one without access to the other. So if you have CoH access, you'll have access to CoV too.
Praetoria is a separate part of the game, but buying the GR version will give you access to it as well as the main game. -
How does Street Justice stack up against Elec when taking into account the high incidence of smashing resistance in game?
While I'm certainly happy with my StJ/EA stalker's performance (especially after slotting the ATIO set), things start getting dicey when I have to start taking on mobs with higher resistance levels(*). I have the same experience with my level 36 Nin/Elec stalker, who's fine normally, but whose kill speed started dropping alarmingly once she started going up against more and more resistant foes(**).
(*) He's level 34, and mostly on SOs and some IOs as I get them.
(**) But who is saved largely by the goodness that is Divine Avalanche enabling her to survive despite this -
Quote:As a software developer myself, I absolutely agree. Non-critical formatting/text errors are lower priority than most everything else. When it comes to updating mission text, or other things which, while annoying, aren't game breaking, we have to ask a simple question: What other task (bug fixing, new content, testing, etc) would we have to deprioritize to allocate the time for the task. Yes, these are bugs, however there are far more pernicious bugs which require more attention, usually discovered during development (bugs are bugs, even if they don't make it to live. You'd be amazed at the amount of bugs we find well before content makes it anywhere near Beta).
We fix them when we have time, however I will be the first to admit they are not the highest priority item on our list.
HOWEVER, if you have an ever increasing amount of bugs in your bug pool*, then you don't have enough people and should hire more. Or allocate more time out of the existing people's schedule to fixing them. As far as text-type errors go, they don't even require the same skill-set as most other bugs to catch and fix, other than the ability to read and update whatever file format you use for mission text. Hell, Paragon has a receptionist, right? Get them to run a spell checker over it and fix the most obvious ones between calls.
* And I would be extremely surprised to find out if this wasn't the case, given that, even just counting spelling/typo-type errors, these would be increasing faster than they're fixed -
Previously, pretty much any time there were significant changes to a powerset (as far as I can remember), we'd get a freespec. Why wouldn't one be released this time?

Quote:Yeah, I don't really want to look at poor States and his *massive* lack of package.Whats up with the new loading screen? Isn't Statesman dead? if so why is he on the load screen and why is he lacking so terribly in a certain department,... geez I feel sorry for the guy, no wonder he wanted to die. ;P
On a related note anyhow know how to change the load screen?
Maybe he traded it for extra powers, or something? -
Seconding Croatoa. It's probably my favourite zone in game (with a very distinctive feel), and has a nice set of interconnecting story arcs.
-
The grey alignments aren't all that useful to begin with, except for badgers and people in the process of switching sides. All you can do (AFAIK, and I'll be happy to be corrected if I'm wrong) in the other side's zone is paper missions and more tip missions. Even doing TFs is annoying, since they (especially blue-side) require you to zone hop a lot and the two main fast zone hopping options, Ouro and WW/BM teleporters, don't work.

Quote:That'd fit especially well if they could also add that idea that someone had above to also add a drag-to-centre mechanic (assuming it's possible, of course). Maybe also a DoT crushing damage component, which gets stronger as the targets get closer to the centre.....Just a silly thought. Based on what ZM says above, maybe they should change the name of the power. What's gravity have to do with dimension shifting, right? So change the power name to Event Horizon. Once something hits it, it doesn't come out. Nothing inside it comes out. Fits gravity perfectly. Of course, my bro will be put out since he has a character (Grav/Rad Controller) with that name....
Hmm. I like the sound of that! -
Cute concept.
Timing and price are off though. -
For all you people quoting your veteran reward dates, is there somewhere you can find these or are you simply remembering?
I haven't received any Reward Tokens since the release of Freedom. My account went premium for about a day or two at the beginning of the month (so obviously that was the end of a September->October billing cycle), and according to my (admittedly patchy) memory my veteran rewards did come around the beginning of the month.
I contacted community support and just got the standard response that others have posted. Is there any way of telling or calculating what I should or shouldn't have at this time? I don't like not knowing, and have no confidence that if there is an error on NCSoft's part that it will be detected by them and corrected without any prompting. -
Quote:I think it's to do with being able to limit how much you can take on yourself. You can purposely go around and aggro the entire room, or you can be careful and take on one group at a time. The same with difficulty settings. Ambushes, especially several stacking or a continuous stream of ambushes, take that control away from you, which can be fun on the right character, or just painful on the wrong one.Funny how people get upset at ambushes but aren't the least bit bothered by being able to lay the smack down on some baddies within plain sight of other bad guys and they never sound an alarm.
Personally, I generally don't mind ambushes, but I really, really HATE the ones that are overused lately in the newer arcs: the ones where you beat a boss down to 1/4 health, they go friendly, and open up a big dialog window full of text (which I'd like to read!), and then an ambush spawns 10 feet behind them! Grrrrrr!
/em smackdev -
I'm not exactly a PVPer. I've poked my nose into PVP zones a few times (and usually gotten myself thoroughly trounced!), but still, I hate travel suppression and diminishing returns.
As a PVEer poking my nose into a PVP zone, I hate the fact that powers work differently. My mez protection doesn't work. My perma dom isn't. If I feel overwhelmed, I can't (or at least it's harder to) run away. Sure I could learn to deal with these things and build accordingly, but without the emotional investment in PVP to begin with that isn't going to happen. I'm not I'm not the only PVEer-occasionally-interested-in-PVP who feels this way. -
I believe they changed it a while back so you could only have one helper at a time.

Quote:Others have said this already, but I'm going to add my 2c.The current Archetype and Powers forums can seem very intimidating to a new user/some current users. In some cases these forums also are not the most active. A tactic I have found to be successful in the past is to group these forums into playstyle or role type, transferring over the most relevant and current posts. The division would go something like this:
- Tanks: Brutes and Tankers
- Ranged DPS: Blasters, Corrupters and Dominators (Doms could also go under support)
- Support: Controllers, Defenders and Masterminds
- Melee DPS: Stalkers and Scrappers
- HEATs and VEATs: Peacebringer, Warshade, Soldier, Widow
- Build Sharing/Critique
This is far more confusing than leaving it as is. Now, if a person has questions about their AT, they go straight to the AT forum. Simple.
The divisions listed above are arbitrary and make little sense to those that have actually played the ATs and appreciate their differences.

EDIT: Beaten to it! That's what I get for now reading the entire thread first. -
Quote:Neither have I. In fact, if you just get there as you're getting the "Door will be open in 10 seconds" message, it can be AWFULLY tempting to skip the insp vendor just so you don't miss the door. Seems counterproductive to me.Supposedly it was to encourage people to form up, re-buff, and rejoin the fray en masse. I have never seen that happen in practice. Not once.
Why would that be an issue? You still have to run from the hospital to wherever the action is (which can be a godawful slog if you're during the sabotage phase of the Lambda). -
Quote:Yeah, I did that. It does seem unlikely that remnant files (other than those of the patcher) would be an issue, since it is downloading the new files, just deciding for whatever reason that they're not valid. (Hash on file is wrong, hash on manifest is wrong, files are actually being corrupted by something, something glitching out during the hash comparison, etc)If you try desinstalling and reinstalling, be sure you check that ALL your city of heroes and nscoft folders are empty and removed after desinstallation (generally they're not). Remove test servers, beta servers, everything related to Cox.

Aaannnd.. still no luck getting my CoX to work. And no word from Support since Friday (I assume NCSoft has support personnel working weekends).
Hmm. I could just keep uninstalling and reinstalling, but given CoX has already eaten up a good chunk of my bandwidth this month, I'm leery of doing so without some idea of what the problem could be.
