Squashed Seal Noise

Has anyone heard anything official (i.e. cite-able) from the devs regarding whether the silly "I just stepped on a baby seal" noise produced by hitting mechanical mobs such as Rikti drones or floating lanterns is a bug or WAI?

It's...uh...not...

I don't even know how to respond to this. It's pretty clearly meant to be an electronic chirp, not the bizarrely specific noise (?!?!) you think it is. However, the fact that other non-mechanical mobs produce the same noise (BP masks and the aforementioned lanterns) is a bug.

"Meant to be" perhaps...

Have the devs acknowledged any aspect of this to be a bug?

It's not a bug. It was introduced quite a while ago and I believe (unless I'm mistaken) that it was even acknowledged in the patch notes.

But you just said this aspect was:

My follow-up question was meant to ascertain whether it's just you and I who think this, or do we have citation to show that devs recognise it.

To the best of my knowledge no dev has acknowledged it, but there's no reason for a mystically-empowered mask to make the same electronic chirp as a robotic drone. Hence, it is a bug.

Shall we go a few more rounds?

Don't know why reference to going a few more rounds is appropriate here. I don't feel we're fighting or competing.

You may note that in my original post I asked for cite-able dev recognition. We both stated our opinions about the noise, and we at least agree it's not appropriate for non-drones, but the whole point of my question (as stated) was to determine what the devs think. Or, more important, what they will admit.

Oh, is THAT what a squashed seal sounds like? I... uh.. didn't know.

BP masks and Totems both make mechanical sounds. I have bugged this several times over the years and mentioned it in the forums a few times, I've even asked about it in chat on the beta server when a dev was on answering questions. I have never seen a dev response about this issue.

Thanks for a response that's to the point, Zaloopa. Yeah, the situation is pretty much as I feared.

Right, I forgot about the Totems as they deviate from the pattern of the bug. Everything else that uses those sound effects is some sort of flying thing (Rikti Drones, Police Drones, BP Masks, Council/5th Hoverbots) except the BP Totem, which also for some weird reason makes the same robotic falling-over noise that certain other humanoid robots make (Clockwork bosses, for one).

Maybe they're robots and the BP are really a bunch of high tech guys that only pretend to be using magic!

So to recap, if you live in paragon city you should invest in construction companies and brass, got it.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.
