Edit: Wait, okay, so I have to claim my Freebie Friday stuff on Thursdays, right? Okay.
There are no words for what this community, and the friends I have made here mean to me. Please know that I care for all of you, yes, even you. If you Twitter, I'm MrThan. More people play Thursday evening than Friday?
(I personally don't play on Thursdays....but the name/timing seem off IMO).

What I'm curious about, actually, is this - if they give away something VIP's get free (but would have to pay for if non-VIP,) would the VIPs be able to claim it? Like some of the "free-for-VIPs" power sets or costume sets? Even if they don't have it purchased otherwise? I know that's a complaint *now* ("X powerset on sale!" "I'm VIP, I can't buy it though I've never bought it separately.")
(I also find the timeframe a little odd. And isn't the time zone listing... er.... backward? 4 PM Pacific would be 7 PM Eastern, not 1 PM. And BST 5 hours ahead of that, IIRC? So, 4 PM PST, 7 PM EST, Midnight BST?)

Now is it a specific item (chosen at random) each week, or is it a random thing each week when you click the virtual buttons?
Either way, may I suggest they use some fancy schmancy remote log in procedure to turn off the feature and actually have it run throughout the day Friday instead if it's a technical issue requiring a person to actually do something.

Ok, seriously people are complaining about a freebie? Really?
Whatever, cool idea, neat promotion and I doubt it will be anything of great significance but I will be here Thursday evening to check it out!
Amazing idea! 
Now i know some weeks will be something like a team inspiration but hey free is free and adds another "wonder what happens this day" to the week!

I was under the impression the Thursday thing is just one time, so this feature can be tested.

Major difference between pointing out a discrepancy with a name / timing and actually complaining about giving something away..........

I’m very pleased to announce a new pilot program for the Paragon Market: Freebie Friday (not to be confused with Freaky Friday. We tried that and the Freakshow just got out of hand.)
Freebie Friday is a new test program in the Paragon Market where all players, Free, Premium and VIP, can claim (only once per offer) a random free item! The item could be almost anything currently available in the Paragon Market and will change every week! Currently, we plan for each promotional item to be available for 24 hours. For the trial run, we’ll be putting the item up at 4:00 PM PDT/7:00 PM EDT/12:00 AM BST this Thursday, May 10th, 2012. The item will be available until the same time (4:00 PM PDT) on Friday, May 11th, 2012. You can find the Freebie Friday item under the “Featured Items” section of the Paragon Market.
It’s pretty simple:
Step 1: Play City of Heroes Freedom!
Step 2: Log in and claim your Freebie Friday item from the Paragon Market!
Step 3: ????
Step 4: PROFIT!*
