At least that's how I interpreted Zwillingers response to "getting something pulled from a hat":

"Ideally, we want to do that, but alas tis not the case with the pilot program as it would require engineering time. "
That poses a problem to people that would already have that item, if this is indeed the method. Unless of course the pull from a hat reference is the one random item from the PM.

This.

Hell, even if it is a random number generator and someone ends up with a power set one week while I end up with a 1 hour xp booster, that would still be okay with me. There is literally NOTHING to lose from clicking whatever the little "Claim Freebie" button looks like. We can only gain something from this.

Oh, I mean...this sounds possibly cool
Silly of me. Don't know how I could have missed the "generic slap in the face" comment. Thanks for backing me up, there!

Oh, and *drink*

Where to find me after the end:
The Secret World - Arcadia - Shinzo
Rift - Faeblight - Bloodspeaker
LotRO - Gladden - Aranelion
STO - Holodeck - @Captain_Thiraas

Obviously, I don't care about NCSoft's forum rules, now.

Ahem. Though, offering actual questions:

I am wondering what the limits are on what is going to be in the pool for this thing. Enhancements? Inspirations? Costume pieces? Is there going to be that one in a hundred thousand or whatever chance that we might get something -big- out of this, like an enhancement tray or costume set or something like that? And if it's the desired goal to have it pull out something different for each person, is there a possibility we could miss out if it happens to pull out something we already have? Or are the only things on the table going to be rewards you can have more than one of? (like no costume piece unlocks, because once you have one of those, you can't get another of the same one, but enhancements might be on the table since you can always own an extra LOTG or something and pass it off to an alt? Just some of the things I'm wondering about.

I am going to go ahead and throw out a word of caution to everyone here: My experience is that when you start throwing around free stuff, people fall into a pattern of entitlement, and tend to get whinier than when they're paying for things and have a more "investment" sort of perspective. People do, in fact, look gift horses in the mouth. In fact, they're more likely to look gift horses in the mouth than horses they paid cash money for. I've never understood it, but in my experience, it's there nonetheless.

That's why I'm asking.

Once per offer could also be interpreted as once that particular day it's being offered.

As in, you can only claim your goodie once for that day (no double dipping).

Ah well, can't wait for more info on the promotion

It's the first one, right? Each friday we get one free item?
I assume it means you can claim -one- freebie of whatevers offered, and can then buy more if you really want them..(unless it's a costume piece or an unlock or something)

I think this is awesomesauce!Even if it's something I already have, oh well, the next week might be something I don't!

The item will be available until the same time (4:00 PM PDT) on Friday, May 11th, 2012. You can find the Freebie Friday item under the “Featured Items” section of the Paragon Market.
May I suggest that since you're dealing with a global community, the 24 hour paradigm for a 'day' is insufficient unless you had the capacity to stagger the 24 hour time frame for each time zone.

For example, you realize that starting at Midnight locally for you is problematic since:
  • that's not everbody else's Midnight; and,
  • we're not at work at Midnight to make sure it happens
And thus, you're beginning with Greenwich's Midnight (and a good choice) while you're still at the office. A wise decision.

However, ending it at 4 PM PT on Friday is not so wise for a program called Freebie Friday for anyone in the world who is not living in London's time zone. People in the rest of the world will get home from work or school on Friday, log into in the game to claim the reward and, WHAAAH whahhhhh, no freebie item.

You will then deal with innumerable claims of you going around nazi slapping everyone in the clock face because they missed out on a Freebie Friday even though it is actually Friday for them. Mark my words, ending Freebie Friday before 12 PM on Friday in at least Pacific Time (should actually go to 6 AM Saturday PT for the islanders) will be very complaintful when the time comes and goes.

A full 'global day' is 48 hours long. Any offer you do should ideally be that long, or, at least, 36 hours long.

Everyone should be aware by now of how video games try to make you addicted. The 'free friday' promotion would fall under 'Making the players press a lever'.

The time the devs spent creating this slot machine system would have been better spent on game improvements. I prefer games where the players are there because they *want* to play, not because they are *compelled* to.

I am inclined to agree with this post entirely.

Why don't you like fun? Like, ever?

Couldn't get anyone to come in and turn this off on a Saturday, huh Zwill?

Looks like name was chosen long before someone considered the production scheduling.

Add all the individual costume pieces to that list.

When you look at the total number of relatively low-cost items that could be in that giveaway, the odds of a higher-cost item getting picked free are relatively low.

Still a great promotion, not complaining, just don't think people should expect "costume slot 6" for free anytime soon...

Can't you get up to 5 more costume slots from the store? If so, why wouldn't one be allowed? You get it free once and never again...would be nice, especially for me since all of my chars are stuck with 5 (or less) atm.

well to me it smacks of desperation, someway they can show their bosses how much activity the market is getting, boosting numbers so to speak. I also think for the most part they will be "clearance" items. Things that are not selling, but they want to spark interest.

or they could be "nudging" us to buy sets, have one of them "free" then we may go buy the rest of the set.

Of course Diablo 3 comes out next week and I am sure that had nothing to do with it.

what I expect next is COH will have some promocode published in a game mag. that will give some sort of mini-pet.(yes I know about the codes on MMO.com)

I completely approve of this idea. In reality it's not going to get anyone to re-sub but it will get people logging in to claim their freebie and if somebody is thinking of unsubbing, it'll give them a reason to keep their sub going, especially if they loved last weeks freebie!

Good stuff Paragon!
