Quote:Seconded. Also, the Mecha-armor rewards list in-game doesn't show a shield option either? Can someone point me to where the Mecha shield is under the various shield options?? I simply cannot find it.
Nice to see Fire+Ice back though. I assume other sets will cycle around as well, which is a nice touch. Still have 2-3 tokens left over now though@_@
EDIT:

I don't like the mecha helmet itself(it kinda looks likea creepy luchadore mask if you give it the right coloring:P), but liking a lot of the designs overall(and the earpieces/etc. are cool). mecha 'claws'(lightsaber-y punching daggers ftw!)are ha-mazing
The chainmail skirts took forever to find - That's because they're only available in the short option(no long-skirted chainmail maids wielding brooms for me sadly!:P)
The Mecha armor gloves make me want a Rocket-Fist power set.
All in all I like it, though a bit sad you can't layer patterns on a lot of the new stuff. Otherwise YAY NEW THINGS. -
Picked up my free booster. YAY.
Free stuff is free. -
Quote:I assume it means you can claim -one- freebie of whatevers offered, and can then buy more if you really want them..(unless it's a costume piece or an unlock or something)The wording is a bit confusing to me. My assumption is that it's saying if an SO were the freebie you could only get one that week. But I'm also reading it as "you get one "free item offer" and can use it this friday or next friday or two weeks friday but only one of these fridays and you get the item that is free that day when you do use it"
It's the first one, right? Each friday we get one free item?
I think this is awesomesauce!Even if it's something I already have, oh well, the next week might be something I don't! -

Fine with alignment tokens meself. Still sad about Super-Pack-exclusive costumes to care about it I guess! >_<
Anyways, i think the price is a bit too much(really they should be 450 for a one-time price, or half of the GR alignment system price, whihc would mesh nicely with the free monthly points allowance for VIPs too.)
As other people stated, this isn't really for VIP convenience, this is so free players can switch without the alignment system. I 'unno, I've always just rolled an alternate redside/yellowside version of a hero(or the opposite for a villian) if needed, or badgered friends to help me rush through the mishes to switchMay pick up one of these at some point just to have it in case of RP/Story need, but probably not more than one.

I'm really sad I got to miss the Ustream. i wanted to see if Zwill or someone would give some more info on this, and at least mention that they've listened to the concerns, especially in this thread. Was anything spoken about it?(and did anyone raise the concerns in the thread here?)
As it stands NCSoft is currently losing monies I would otherwise have given them happily -
Quote:I'm sorry but I don't agree with this. For one thing, The argument isn't that they should change it now(though they should IMO), but that they should have made it non-exclusive to packs in the first place. The fact that it'll make people angry is the same as saying someone shouldn't be angry that they weren't made exclusive at the opening. As long as there's no guarantee of success, some people will spend more on the super packs than it would have cost to get things separately, and if the separate option later becomes available, those people will be infuriated.
Having both options up front might well have worked, but it would have taken away one of the big draws super packs were offering. Part of the point of that draw is that a lot of people wouldn't buy super packs without some kind of exclusive, but once they've bought a couple they may decide it's fun and buy more. It's an inducement.
I also don't agree with the second. The Super Packs draw is that potentially you could spend far less and get far more. For 80pp you get a bunch of useful things and maybe a costume part. This sin't a bad idea. And I also don't think people would just not buy SuperPacks if they hadn't added in an exclusive costume set. I know I would have. I might even have bought a 24-pack in the chance that I'd get the whole costume set with other things, if I knew that even if I didn't get them all i could just go and buy the costume pieces I wanted separately. I won't buy them now because of this decision.
And to all the posters simply saying 'suck it up, the Devs did it'. Uh...This is the discussion thread! you're allowed to voice your displeasure!
But I think it's pretty telling that this argument has been going on since Tuesday without really slowing down much. There's clearly a large portion of the player base that finds this idea horribly bothersome to their idea of CoH and Paragon Studios in general.
I'm frankly rather bothered by the decision(enough that I'm posting here on the forums, which I almost never do[mostly I check out announcements then go and play]) because I want to give Paragon Studios Money for things and they're not letting me except through a roundabout, uncertain method I have no desire to use.
I think we need to bring the discussion back to the fact that the majority of the people in this thread against the packs are not against the Super Packs. They're against the thought of not being able to purchase the things found in said pack separately with a 100% guarantee of getting them.
I personally think it's stupid of NCSoft to not want to take my money for the costume set/vanity pet. And I think it's even sillier that they have no plan to introduce the EO set at a later date/are considering doing this for further sets.
So again
Super Packs aren't evil/horrible hellspawns that make Cole look like small time in comparison
BUT
Super Packs should not have exclusive items that you can only get without any guarantee by spending far more than you would otherwise. The draw of Super Packs should be that you can potentially get far more for your points than you did buying individually. -
*re-opens discussion page. Gets hit by a fireblast. cough*
Whew that's pretty hot!
Anyway, after reading the posts I think it's mostly devolved into either 'I lurv the packs and you're stupid not for liking them stupid-head!' or 'packs are illegal and rude and the antithesis to everything I ever liked about CoH Evar!'
So I'm gonna put my two cents in again.
On the Super packs : Randomized packs of goodies is not a bad idea. I like the idea that for 80pp I could have a random chance of getting fun, useful things. The fact that for 80pp I'm getting quite a lot is a good thing, and I like the idea. You do get your 'money's worth' in what you buy.(there's no chance you'll receive 'nothing')
However, Myself and(I think( a large number of people are reacting to this so negatively not beacause we want to be selfish or think everything has to go our way, but that we don't think it's fair nor in keeping with that sense of community-to-developer communication that makes CoH so special, and that NCSoft is not offering something we'd actually pay money to support without forcing us to potentially(and a luck-based/computer generated potential to boot!) spend far in excess of what we've paid for in the past, with no honest guarantee other than 'if you spend 3-4x the amount you were gonna spend you should get them all(and that doesn't include the vanity pet btw)'.
The problem isn't the fact that the Super-Packs suck or are bad or are money-grubbing.(at least I don't think they are, I just think it's a wrong idea to make costume sets exclusive to them). It's that there was no option to buy things in the packs separately. Which means everyone is forced(forced as in if you want to buy them not as in NCSoft is twisting your arm to buy from the store) to buy these packs rather than being able to spend more money to get the items guaranteed. I don't think anyone here is really suggesting that we should just get everything for free forever and Paragon Studios should just spend their own money to give us free CoH. (and if they are that's just silly.)
So can we please stop accusing everyone of either being crazy/selfish/illegal/babies/stupid now? This is a Discussion thread, not a flame thread, and I'd like the Devs to actually read these posts and go 'that's a good point we should do something(or not)' instead of ignoring the thread. -
While I think the packs are a good idea in theory, in practice they're horribly off-putting for anyone that just wants the costume set/whatever you want in the packs. Why make us jump through hoops/turn a huge section of the playerbase off by essentially telling us the only way to buy a costume set could end up costing many times more than just a normal costume pack for a chance at getting some of the set? Sure, it's nice that for 80 points you could randomly get a costume piece you don't own. But why didn't the Devs just make it so that the Superpacks have a random chance to drop any costume piece you haven't yet bought in the store? That would be worth it, because if I didn't get the costume piece, I'd just go in the store and buy it separately anyway! (and the chance to get a emote or costume piece I don't already have could theoretically be nice for the occasional 80pp toss.)
The problem isn't that what you're getting for the fifteen dollars in 24 packs isn't useless/crappy, but that it's unwanted (for the most part, especially for someone like me that doesn't need/want any of the enhancers/boosters/etc.) and it feels really, really silly to not want to take my monies because I don't want to trust the same random chance that governs whether I get a purple IO drop or not for actual money on top of my subscription price and would rather just spend a flat sum of money for the 'expansion' of small costume pieces and a vanity pet.
It does feel like a blatant grab for money. If they offer the set within a week or two I'd be fine with it, but zwill's post about it not even being up for discussion yet is disheartening with a company I like to support. It's not enough to drive me off of CoH, but it is enough that I won't be spending a penny on these packs, and leaves me dissatisfied with the decision enough to come on to the forums and post about it!
So yeah, Feedback! Yay! Elemental Order set is a very pretty set, most likely why I spent the time writing and editing this post to not have too many typing mistakes:P -

I have and still play CCG's, and I hate buying packs. But I can also go on Ebay/Amazon, or buy individual cards via the local CCG-selling comic store if I want(albeit at a higher price). Most of the dislike for Super packs(at least, from what I read) aren't that they have random chance put in, but because you can't just buy the set for a higher price. I'd rather pay 400 points(well, really less than 400, but I've paid that for a costume pack already) than have to sit there hoping the random number crunching gives me what it wants(and spend to get the chance to bet on it).

Quote:+1Excitement over exclusivity is a bad road.
I like the costume set (and the black wolf). If they were up for sale outright, I'd buy them.
Super Packs = no sale + a hefty amount of disappointment in Paragon Studios
Super Packs be Silly. Oh welp, guess I'm never ever using these costume pieces till they come out as a separate pack.Shame because they're super pretty too. Sighhhhhh. -
I like A cause it looks like a baby raptor pack fromt eh Sky Raiders<3
-
I picked F 'cause C looks more like the laser from the steampunk pack a bit, but they all looked okay.
No trigger guard though? It makes them look weird IMO. -
B all the way! D is a close second:P
'm gonna have to make a flash-gordon-y science alt with all these pretty new costume bits -
I like B the best IMO, but C has the bestest Boots.(the rings are AWESOME).
SO I say B with a dash of C's boots:P -

Ideas for this:
Promotion of guides on the City of Heroes website. Maybe a good guide in the forum has the chance to go up in a guide section of the website?
Promotion of the guides forum section, and if created the guides website section, in game.
Some kind of little guide award? Even if it's just a costume power code given, or some game time.
Guide challenges. A Red name says 'hey, let's see your best x guides!'. Could work in addition with the above.
And not just because I'm almost finished with my first ever guide for CoH!:P(Soo...much...spellchecking!) -

Anyway, new forum rules seem fair to me I guess. Politics and religion are two touchy subjects. About the only thing I disagree with is some of the new forum-merge ideas on ATs. Seeing as how I prefer Brutes far more over Tanks, and knowing just how different the two are, I think putting them together would just feel..weird and perhaps give new players a false understanding of the ATs. Not that it will bother me too much in the long run, I just never felt that the archetypes were that confusing??....(I mean, their names are 'Tanker, Brute, Controller, Defender', etc...) If you had too you could make the forums immediately available smaller in number by 'playstyle'(Melee, ranged, and buff/debuff maybe?, with specialty boards for epic ATs and MMs?), and then have smaller sub-forums for each class in those, giving a much cleaner look to the forums.
Just my two inf. -

But...
I haven't tested this on Beta yet. But from the description this sounds like a fight that's "LOLMelee". It sounds as if all the various parts of this creature are ridiculously deadly at close range. ten to one I bet their attacks are auto-hit as well, which means Defense-based melee is double-screwed.
You've got one type of enemy that forces players to separate to stay alive, another that forces them together, and another that confuses/mezzes.
In short it sounds too much like the kind of design ideas that went into the Keyes Trial. And we all know what an absolute JOY the Keyes trial is. (Yes, that's sarcasm - Keyes is an absolute nightmare. Which is why most people, once they've got their badges, never bother with it again and instead farm BAF and Lambda for their Incarnate threads.)
Can anyone who has tested this in Beta with a melee with a defensive secondary (Brute, Scrapper, Stalker) tell me if I'm wrong/overreacting on this? (I'd like to be.)

The only reason people don't do keyes is because it's faster to do BaFs and Lambda trials. The few times I've done Keyes trials they haven't been hard, just long and a bit tedious(in terms of doing it over and over and over) compared to doing BaFs for the same rewards. Keyes are fun to play, but not fun to farm.
I think the Seed sounds spiffy, but not having fought it I can't say. I do like the tie-in to Primal Earth hami's mitochondria with the Seedlings, it sounds like Seed of Hami will feel close enough to the adorable blob of jelly we all know and love from Primal :P -
-
I'm a bit saddened by the Seed, as my two biggest alts that would fight it are a plant troller(can't attack flying enemies really), and a blaster with only Super speed. Also, I'll reiterate my desire for a seed of Hamidon mini-pet. Or a plushie you can buy!

Reading through and noticed 'Tellurian plague'. I'm a total nerd and that sounded very familiar. Apparently it's in star trek:P
Link:http://en.memory-alpha.org/wiki/Telurian_plague
EDIT: woops Wrong plague, link is fixed now
ALso, part I'm talking about:
Tellurian Seedlings fly near the Seed itself and function as its antibodies. While their own offensive power is fairly low, they are capable of spreading a particularly virulent strain of the Tellurian Plague to nearby targets, confusing the targets and causing them to attack their own allies. -
Quote:I would say because this run of them is limited. I noticed the serial code was linked by IP address, so if two people have the same internet line no luck getting the code for both of them:PI have two Game Accounts under my Master Account. I was successful in getting the code, and it works fine on one Game Account but not the other. Does anyone have any idea why? There's no mechanism for assigning it to one Game Account over another, but it would surprise me if only the first account to try to use it is the ONLY account that could ever use it.
As for all the people screaming 'I Won't use facebook'. I don't either. I made one for my main Alt.. Which who cares if FB considers it a violation of ToS? The worst they can do is ban the false account, and you still have a serial code?
Also, it said that they will be released at a later date for those that don't get them, and I'm almost certain it'll be in a store or be a free reward eventually. The Devs are just doing this so more people see players' with City of Heroes linked in their FB page(which means more people looking at City of Heroes, and thus a chance at more player revenue), etc. etc. It's not a reward, it's a promotion.
*ends rant*
Anyway got my facepalm emote. Pretty spiffy. Useful is useful. -
Quote:I actually like this idea. Or at the very least make badges that are awarded to VIPs that team with free and premium players;PTrue, but lets see what else comes up. My next VR will give me Merits, for example, and there are plenty of things/activities in game that provide ways to get things. Things that might not be available in the shop. Merits, Alignment Merits, etc.
And, again, we might see something that awards points - nothing is set in stone, after all. Personally? If teaming with free and premium players could earn points (or discounts) that'd be pretty cool - sort of like the Sidekicking/Exemplaring badges. There are plenty of reasons to sidekick/exemplar already, but that could be an interesting twist.
Honestly, I wouldn't /mind/ seeing some sort of perk to teaming with non-VIP's. Nothing overpowering or so compelling you had to do it, but a little "thank you" from Paragon. Call it a bribe or proactive karma, but hey... -

400........$5.00......................Signature Stories

This whole part right here is what I enjoy. So for 5$ a month premium players cna join the party with new content, but subscribers get it for free and more slots and free 5$ worth of points.
This is pretty much what I expected it to cost and I'm roughly happy with the prices!
