What "issue"?
The only kind of issue that this is is a non-issue

Also, given Sam's vehement dislike of the SSA I should probably check it out...it seems we enjoy exactly opposite things in this game. =P

I've seen so many END OF THE WORLD!'s here I ought to change my name to The Watcher.

It's a fun arc - it's got a good story with plenty of twists and turns, some cool battles, unique misison maps and several epic cutscenes - although if you're not a VIP, I'd suggest you become one to play it, as it's way cheaper than paying for the separate episodes as a freebie.

Well, unless you enjoy spelling and grammar errors, you may find you share my opinion on SSA1.7 But, yeah, maybe you'll like 'em. To me, they came off as petty and needlessly cruel. I might have bought the story if it were told better, but the stories are just so poorly handled for as ambitious as they are.

Good point - this may well be the straw that breaks the back of the re-subscription camel...

As a player with a longstanding grudge against Jack Emmert and very little investment in CoH's 'pantheon characters' (CoV's rogues gallery is more my cuppa), cruelty may well be in the eye of the beholder.

Poor text editing is another matter, but I've been waffling on a re-sub anyway- as part of a package deal I could probably overlook it.

Hey, if it's a matter of subscription, I say go for it. The missions do indeed have pretty cool mission maps, and especially SSA1.7 has a lot of decent action in it. I find the stories themselves to be garbage, but if you have a grudge against the signature characters, then the SSA will provide, in spades.

*thumbsup*

They should give you some bonus Paragon Points for making up my mind to re-sub. =P

For a bonus, try and time your sub to cover the launch of I23 - that'll give you free access to part 1 of SSA2, as well as the new Night Ward zone content, and the new Incarnate story arc and Trial..

the whole 'incarnate' thing's never really done it for me- I 'worked' on the Goat for bit, noticed it *felt* like work and went back to playing my alts.

What I saw as a drop in quality, for the benefit of someone's ego, which was enough for me to give up.
Really? All of the crap to benefit Jack's ego never bothered you, though?

They have awesome maps and some cool gameplay. But if you love story, SSA is not for you. The storyline is complete garbage.

Well, if you're a hero. Villains have at least a modicum more fun since they actually get to feel like they're doing things ;p Plus they get some nice temps

100% agreed.

The storyline is quite a simply an amateurishly written vehicle for getting rid of Statesman.

To kill Statesman is one thing - and I didn't agree with it, but to write him out of the game lore is quite simply childish vindictiveness on Miller's part.

Maybe I am missing something completely. Isn't there technology built into the game that makes certain NPC's disappear based on your person choices? Why not just implement that feature for Statesman and Sister. Those of us that have completed the story arcs should have both gone from game.

As for the story arc in question for this badge, it should be turned into a Ouro only mission, and a new story created for Positron, with his new badge. This would allow all badges to be obtained, and continuity would still exist.

I understand time constraints, but this should have been a priority once they decided to kill off the main characters....not as it seems right before i23 is released. Sorry devs, I agree, you dropped the ball on this one. Badly.

But I will still play regardless.

Because that system can't change missions. Because they want to move the story forward, and it's pretty much all or nothing for something this big.

...
It's not just that the characters disappear, but that you need to be able to do task forces and missions that refer to them, and technically every npc SHOULD react differently before and after their deaths.

Otherwise you end up in situations like in a certain TES game where you can kill a woman's husband right in front of her, throw his body into the fire in the middle of the room, and have her walk past you, look at him, go "heh," and then continue about her day.

Whether that's an appropriate response or not is an entirely different question, but...

MMO's aren't really my first resort when I'm looking for a deep, involving storyline. I'm happiest when there's just enough plot to provide some context to my character's actions, but not so much that I'm missing out by not reading the clues and TL/DR'ing most of the contact dialog.

Awesome maps & cool gameplay, on the other hand...THAT'S what I'm here for!

I didn't read this whole thread because I'm very busy watching cat videos on YouTube, but wasn't Statesman's Pal the very first "Badge Title" passed out in this game? I mean, for nostalgic's sake, I think it should stay.

That wouldn't be the permanent change to the gameworld that the SSAs are meant to cause - they're meant to move the game world forwards for everyone, not just the people who play the arcs, because the meta-storyline requires certain basic truths to make future content coherent.

guess we'll have to wait and see what happens in the next SSA to see if more permanent changes happen or if SSA 1 was just a fluke then.

Wonder who dies in SSA2!

Well, the red side version of SSA2 features the villain players working to set up a new evil organization to rival Arachnos - assuming that they succeed, then it's highly likely that the new villain group will be added to the game for everyone, not just for people who've played SSA2, which would follow the pattern of SSA1 - players get to expereince a world changing event in "real time" as the episodes are rolled out, and then the game world is adjusted to reflect the new reality after the arc, and the arc becomes a "historical" arc.

So does that mean that Lord Recluse and Ghost Widow (or Red Widow, depending, but GW seems more appropriate due to her popularity) will be completely removed from the history of the game entirely, including any ret-conning of badges and story involving them?

Just curious. I'm not bitter or anything... >.>
