You forgot something in your post:

The champagne now goes in the jacuzzi, and the gold plated cars are washed with Perrier. Champagne apparently left marks on the gold plate.

I LOL'ed.

Matt's a good designer and I respect his design skills. In my estimation, he's a systems guy, though, by which I mean that he enjoys working on systems and prioritizes that sort of thing above the other things that go in around the systems. I tend to value the "padding" higher than I value the systems, so I find myself at odds with his approach at the same time that I am usually grateful for the systems themselves. (Still waiting on personal arch-nemesis...)

I don't really have a problem with him being a puzzle guy who likes to invent new "puzzles", essentially. It just seems that since he's at or very near the top of the food chain, that the underlings adopt similar attitudes and we end up with all kinds of neglect when it comes to the fluff.

I wish that I could feel like there was a Manticore or an Arctic Sun who was shepherding the story and developing the world as a whole. I mean, in the old days of the Paragon Times, we would have had some kind of acknowledgement of the public reaction to Marcus Cole's death and his funeral and what not. Under the current regime, we get nothing except a picture of the coffin and a Ms. Liberty who is pretty damn perky considering what's happened to her family just recently.

Oh, well. As I said in another thread, it's easy to be an armchair designer. One thing I know is that the couple of times I've had a look behind the curtain, it turned out that things were just about never as simple or cut and dried as they looked from the player side. In the end, it just comes down to whether you have a good time playing the game and what you do about it if you are not.

That's because phase one of her plan went perfectly.

What I'd like to know is where the Statesman memorial is going to be and wheres his gigantic statue. I mean he was the worlds greatest hero, there should be something to note his passing.

Also I'm unclear. They fixed the badge thing but are they leaving the arcs and mentions of States in game? Sounded like they were scrubbing everything about him out of the game.

Something witty and profound

My running criticism of Matt Miller - and this goes back years, even when Jack was still around - is that he treats his customers like cattle. We don't know what's good for us, we don't know what we want, we need to be treated with tough love and game theory and Skinner boxes (not so much lately, but more so round I18-I19)... Matt said that they would "give the players what they want," but instead it seems more like he would rather give player's what he thinks is good for them, even if it's not exactly what players asked for, "within reason" always being the escape clause.

I mean, say what you will about Jack Emmert - the guy basically overruled his fans at every step - but at least he seemed to be coming from the standpoint of making a fun game even if that fun wasn't strictly logical. Hell, his vision was anything BUT logical, but I could see where he was coming from. With Matt Miller, it feels like the game is being designed and led by SkyNet - this is what fun is, this is what you will enjoy. He comes off as the systems guy who's willing to compromise presentation to keep his systems just as he wants them. That one bit about inviting your own characters to your own SG he made was this feeling distilled: They'll probably never allow that because SGs are for many people to play and solo SGs are not the point. Even though that's what we want and it doesn't interfere with team SGs.

That recent address that was posted in his name had me laughing and rolling my eyes at the line where Matt Miller enjoys interacting with people. This is the guy who does not accept PMs and the guy whose forum posts are usually a sentence long, whenever they even exist. Yeah, I know he meant at Pummits and the like, but still.

Sam, not that I'm love with Matt or anything, but your last few lines do not make sense when next to each other.

If the man didn't love interacting with people the best way to do that is to AVOID the Pummits and conventions and tradeshows, and stay posting like a robot on the forums or his blog.

I think you're off in this argument this time.

I'm not saying he's anti-social or evil or something. I don't know the man in person. What I AM saying is I don't get the impression that he "loves" interacting with as much as the article's trying to depict.

Hell, I don't love interacting with people.

*snerkle*

There actually could be a weird, surreal satisfaction in that idea if it turned out in a year that, in fact, every horrible event in the collective stories turned out to be a step in a grand plan to achieve something entirely mundane, yet the entire sequence of earth-shattering events was, in fact, the only possible way to achieve exactly what she was after. Megan turns out to be the ultimate mastermind, heh.

I always though Lady Gray was the mastermind. With that Darren Wade scene at the end and what not

Just so you know, your requests have been heard. Both Statesman's Pal and Positron's Pal will be available - Positron from current content, while Statesman's Pal will still be available from "A Hero's Hero."

Also, Sister Psyche's Comrade/Penelope Yin's friend is also resolved through Ouroboros.

We've got some pretty great Devs.
