So what does everyone think of staff now that its live.

I saw some poor reviews coming out of beta, but no where near what BM was getting.

So what do you think?

Not trying to be rude.

But people enjoy Beast Mastery, dual pistols, Electric blast, and Ice melee, it doesnt mean they are in any way shape or form good sets.

That being said, my impression is that Staff isnt nearly as bad as these, but it seems a little lackluster

Needs a bit more damage.

Good performance is not really an opinion. It either works well or it doesn't.

Having said that I haven't played staff (No intention of either) but it sounds very middle of the road. I have noticed the sets that have a large following (Staff/ Dual Pistols/ Beast Mastery) tend to have flashy animations and below par damage, and the sets I didn't epect arriving (TW/ Street Justice) to have good damage.

So they obviously pick an audience when they design a set.

Enjoying mine, but they need to either lengthen the animation or apply damage quicker on the assassin strike. There's a pause in there that keeps making me wonder if I missed or not.

And what is "Good" or "well?"

Besides, the question isn't "are you doing megadamage in .03 seconds," but "what do you think?" And the response that generated this little set of replies was that the person was enjoying it.

Are you telling that person (and me) that we're actually NOT enjoying it? Because, if so, I've got some news you may not like.

When things are not equal, you are always going to have outliers.

So no matter how you slice it, being that different sets perform differently (for various reasons aside from pure damage), you will always have Awesome, Somewhat Awesome, and Not Nearly Awesome - and everywhere in between.

I haven't played Staff yet so I can't say how it does compared to other melee sets.

I've done Dual Pistols (Corrupter, Defender and Blaster) and I've enjoyed them on all 3. Compared to Electric Blast, I think it does more damage. Compared to Fire, probably not but that doesn't mean it's a bad set. I guess it just depends on what you pair it with.

tl;dr

In my view, there's a difference between "Good" and "Bad" sets versus how a set performs compared to other sets.

YMMV

How DARE you say you like the set?!

This is supposed to be yet another negative thread. Who do you and DK think you are coming in here with a positive review?

...I'm also enjoying Staff Fighting.

Im looking for objective reviews of performance I probably should have stated that clearly.

Not it looks cool, I poke things with a pool cue, what could be more awesome.

Basically what I want to know is does this perform well compared to the average on melee sets.

I know everything looks like mud compared to SS,TW and fire melee.

Example DP being lackluster compared to fire or archery is acceptable, DP being lackluster compared to the middle of the pack is not.

Right now Staff is looking somewhere between mediocre to slightly under mediocre. I do believe a paid set needs to be a little better than that.

The problem seems to be the lack of buildup and the general damage cut it takes for having a constant damage buff available which means your locked into the damage form and cant leave without destroying your damage output.

Im guessing this problem does NOT apply to stalkers. I havent gottent o test a stalker yet, so please keep the reviews seperate.

Ive seen this come up in other games, Form of the body is not a buff, its a debuff for not being in it.

All the proof you need.

I'm sure the set is somewhere between fine to great for a casual level up set, however for lvl 50 performance the set isn't performing too hot, as it lacks a strong ST power to work in tandem with Sky Splitter for every AT sans Stalkers.

Yeah you should have since what do you think is pretty open. It is in fact a middle of the road ST set. Having said that it has excellent AOE and that is where I think people are going to decide with this set.

I have a Staff/Fire Brute on test I PL with and it is enjoyable but it is not as fast as my claws/fire or ss/elec but IDC, its fun and effective enough for my taste. It is such a YMMV type thing people need to test it out for themselves unless all they want is min/max which is already there with SS/Fire.

The problem seems to be lack of build up and form of the body.

If by problem you meant to make it top tier ST set plus and excellent AOE set you are most likely right, but I think it is intentional right?

Theme wise, we know it's great. We get it.

Performance wise, I wouldn't personally consider it top tier and it seems I'm not alone in this opinion. Yes, every set can be made to work out if you're a good player with a good build, no one is questioning that. However, if you start talking min/max and sheer numbers then we come to the conclusion many have already mentioned here.

Stalker seems to be the AT that makes out the best with this set. The other ATs will have to settle for 'just for fun'.

I cannot say anything about my Stalker yet, but did make a Staff/Regen Brute.

When I hit level four, instead of going to Kings Row and street hunt I went to Praetoria instead. After soaring across Imperial City on my Rocket Board, I settled into Nova and beat up the local bad guys with my mighty broom! I even got a badge by participating in the Zone Event

At level 5, I went back to Primal Earth and am doing radio missions.

My impression is the set is going to be a favorite. I did not die to any Praetorians and I was avidly looking for higher levels to fight.

I say thumbs up

Lisa.

The extra range is sweet and very helpful. It will be even nicer when I get to mid levels and can herd more things. The melee cone is large. Getting your best AoEs early is wonderful. So far Staff Mastery is underwhelming (I have only tried the +rech and +dam forms at this point, I have not had any end issues, so I have not needed to turn that one on yet).

The control is helpful, if not reliable. I have had zero issues up to level 10 and from looking at the numbers it looks like it will have mid-low ST DPS, mid-high AoE damage, solid utility. We will have to see how Staff Mastery pans out in the higher levels, that is my only concern at this point.

Why Blasters? Empathy Sucks.
So, you want to be Mental?
What the hell? Let's buff defenders.

Well thank god the game is about more than just maxing your target cap and DPS, yes?

"settle for 'just for fun' " LOL.

Even after 10 something years of online gaming across genres attitudes like this still crack me up.

That depends on the person. The post you responded to gave enough information for people to decide what AT best suits their need.
