What were your plans for Praetorian Hamidon? Was there going to be a trial against him? What was he supposed to look like? Was there any connection between Praetorian Hamidon and Battalion (I remember that you (Posi) ran some kind of AE arc where worlds not devoured by Battalion were overrun by Hamidon or something to that effect)

Quote:Not the UU. I -could- theoretically make the Shogun though, if I wanted to.Are you remaking Shogun, or referring to another SG?
I haven't been in-game much so stuff might have been discussed without me, but if the United Underworld has decided to move to CO I guess I could give it another try.
I just hear their chat function sucks since CO is on a merged server or something?
If not, can anyone more familiar with CO explain how their chat function works
since you know, its pretty important for RP -
I'm heading to CO. It's where my friends are going, and they're taking the entire SG with them. Aside from them I've got numerous other friends in it as well. Funny thing too, I tried it out last night, not nearly as bad as I thought it would be.
Even if the character creator places it's options in odd places. -
I don't get it. The game was going fine, or so we were told. How the heck do you go from "Working on Issue 24" to "Suddenly we're closing down"
-
>Kinetics to Masterminds
>Ninjitsu to Scrappers
Oh HELL yes. -
I actually agree with Johnny (SHOCK AND AWE!) one a few of those points, those being:
- Reduce or eliminate chain mezzes.
- Adjust the magnitude/duration of mezzes (Malta Mezzes are pretty much the one big example)
- Make Breakfrees capable of negating -Fly, -Speed (I'd add that Break Frees should negate -Recharge as well) -
While the club-do is silly, I think it fits if he's supposed to be some teenager fitting in with the Skulls.
And really I like what they've done, the Skulls and the Hellions originally were just too similar, now the Skulls are actually a decently freaky looking low-level faction. Devs are really on the ball about this. -
I think that the improvements made to Boxing and Kick are a definite step forward, but switching them brings up the issue that you'll STILL have to take Boxing or Kick anyway if you want Weave (and there's only a few combos where Weave is redundant, otherwise it's generally a useful power for everyone).
There's also the problem that we're going into the territory of Fitness here, where at that point if you're making it that easy to get into, you might as well make it inherent. Personally, I've found that I'm likely to actually take Boxing, Kick, AND Cross Punch, simply because of the buffs they offer for having them (Admittedly this is on a scrapper, so perhaps I should look at other ATs) -
Honestly, the Nemesis non-sensical banter was pretty funny. I mean c'mon, who remembers the Praetorian with Null The Gull taking Tyrant's seat?
And sometimes the banter IS serious.
During the Seedling Invasion some months back on Virtue, we all knew when and where it was starting (Talos), so 20 minutes in advance, me and bunch of other heroes were out waiting and patrolling Talos checking for trouble. About 5 minutes before the actual start, someone found a lone Olympian Guard running around, which put everyone on high alert.
Once it actually got underway, it was pretty awesome. Lag and what not, obviously, but it was still fun. And the banter during THAT event was entirely serious, as was the banter during the Praetorian Surge last year in May (hilariously, I joined -just- before the Surge, so that was my first big community event).
I think having a few laughs between serious business is A-OK. -
I was surprised when Night Ward whipped out Lamatshu. I have a friend who's character is a follower of that Deity over on Virtue. And he did it because it's a relatively obscure deity with very little coverage in mainstream media, as far as mythology goes.
You would not believe his level of shock when I realized the Lamatshu I beat up in Night Ward was supposedly the SAME ONE HIS CHARACTER WAS A FOLLOWER OF. In-character, he came up with the justification that it wasn't the real one, just a ridiculously powerful creature believing it was the Mother of Monsters.
On topic, urban myths like Mothman are definitely something. Or perhaps some Japanese mythology like Yamato-no-Orochi. -
Quote:There're also archetypes we're missing, Melee/Support and Pets/Melee.
Batman - MA/Traps
Thor - Warmace/Storm
The Kingpin - Thugs/Super Strength
Ra's al Ghul - Ninjas/Katana, Katana/Pain
Doctor Doom - Electric Melee/Forcefields, Robots/Kinetic Melee
Loki - Staff/Kinetics
Nite Owl - Street Justice/Traps
While not perfect depictions in some cases, each character can be depicted as such in this game. I think that's enough (I know there are more, I've just not got the imagination to think of them right now) to show that the concept of the power combinations is already in comics.
Power Armour - I can see this as both a Dominator Assault set and Blaster Manipulation set. Fill it out with rocket punches, macro missiles, flares, holograms and wrist-mounted projectiles (Web grenade?). Combo in alternate animations for Assault Rifle and Dual Pistols where you use wrist-mounted guns and it'd be amazing!
Sorcery/Magic/Spell Casting - Magic chains, temporary summonings, fireballs, lightning bolts. If you keep it like D&D or [enter other tabletop fantasy PNP here] you can have a wide enough range to fill out all types of powersets. Classic casting for blast/control/support, enchanted armour/magical creatures for Masterminds, making walls of magic/stone and turning yourself ethereal and the like for an armour set..
Inspiration - A support set based on leadership skills, charisma and commanding ability, for natural characters. Can be spread out to a battlefield knowledge and tactics control set.
Rapier/Dueling blade - A one handed light blade set to play like a melee Beam Rifle. Light on AoE, but superior damage against a single target through proc and/or escalating damage effects, for the Musketeer in all of us. It's Disintegrate power could be combined with Parry/Divine Avalanche, call it Riposte.
Riot Grenade Launcher - A natural control set. A grenade launcher armed with flashbangs, tear gas, glue bombs, wide area web grenades, smoke grenades, greater caltrops (Caltrops but a bigger radius! And as a knockdown patch!) and maybe even summoning some Shield Defense tanking SWAT officers ala Gang War/Phantom Army. Make it's niche that it's fast recharging but short duration controls with a couple special effects crossing the Disintegrate function of Beam Rifle with the Oil Slick igniting system. Put down Tear Gas in an area for AoE sleep, throw in a Flashbang to stun them and the stun lasts longer and also does -damage! Launch the Smoke Grenade and then put Greater Caltrops in there to cause a confuse effect!
I'd like to add that we're missing Ranged/Armor as well. Difficult to make a true Powered Armor character since you can't have an "armor". -
Parasitic Aura is skippable, but really, I can only see a few Powerset Combos where that's even an issue.
-
Since you're locked into getting either Boxing or Kick, I'd have to say the bonuses would have to be something relatively minor. Something small enough as to not be overpowered, but enough that you'd notice a difference (like the damage bonus to Sniper Rifle in Targeting Drone)

I have to disagree. Dark Astoria made me feel AWESOME. It was great that the game recognizes how awesome being an Incarnate is. Diabolique hestitates when she sizes you up because "Holy PANCAKE this guy/girl is an INCARNATE! PANCAKE!"
And as a roleplayer on Virtue, I very, very, VERY much like the fact that the game recognizes that being an Incarnate, no matter how "common" the status might be, still takes a LOT of work and effort to achieve, and not everyone can do it. And that the title MEANS something.
I also disagree that the signature characters are getting stomped on and defaced. Positron is STILL a premiere scientist, Citadel is still a ridiculously advanced robot, etc, etc. Yes, Incarnate powers trivialize normal content, which is why iTrials include ridiculous gimmicks. But that's a Gameplay Vs. Story issue. -
...Man, my first character was a DP/Dev. :< Now I'll have to either Reroll him or make a second version of him!
-
I always wondered HOW Recluse kept any sort of hold on the Isles considering the sheer number of Incarnates. And given that 24 Incarnates can drop the Champion of the Well (potentially without severing ANY of his ties to the Well!), Recluse shouldn't even be a speed-bump.
Loving this idea. -
Incarnate powers are fun, but they force me to nerf people in AE arcs. I've gotten a few complaints (Can count them on one hand) about folks wondering why my arcs are 44.
Well, because at 45 you get access to all your Incarnate Powers, which basically ruins any challenge AE has if you're going for a challenging arc. If there was a way to lock out Incarnate powers, I would.
Luckily Incarnate level mobs have been given to us for use in AE, or that helps a bunch. I wouldn't mind the ability to give enemies level-shifts or that Chimera "Give-myself-shifts-on-the-fly" ability.
Otherwise I can't wait for more.
Pre-Nerf Keyes was and has always been my favorite trial -
Quote:I suppose, but again, I wouldn't attribute the Well's actions to stupidity.Cosmic Hanlon's Razor?
Also, Venture, I call the Well "Supernatural" because at the moment it has no scientific explanation. I wasn't calling it supernatural as a way to say everyone was "magic".
I'll rephrase it and call it "alien" then. -
Well, if you think about it, the fact they were successfully summoned into the world means they aren't going away anytime soon, unless you could Mass Banish them back to whereever they came from.
As far as a villain group goes, I consider them no more boring than Crey or the Devouring Earth. I actually find them interesting in that they have the insidious ability to turn others to their side, almost like indoctrination from Mass Effect (if we're going to draw from outside sources)
As for the Well being a source of power, that has never bothered me. At least no more than any other supernatural force in CoX has. Comparing it to the Akashic Record is an interesting idea too, but I just think of it as a mass of...something (Energy? Intelligence?) that has only enough will to respond to things instinctually, most of the time.
It gains sapience by possessing those with connections to it (Recluse/Statesman/Hero1), but otherwise it's actions seem solely based on reactions to others. People with connections want power, it reacts by granting them power. It senses a threat to itself (the storm), and selects someone with the greatest will (Praetorian Cole) to defend it.
As far as saying that it's malicious. I'd say it's less malicious and just more alien to us. We can't comprehend why it would act in this manner so we say "What it's doing is done with malicious intent." However, since it clearly operates outside of our realm of understanding, it likely has no understanding of the concept of good or evil.
Hm, another question:
Are the Shivans part of Battalion, or just another species enslaved to it? -
Quote:Honestly, after SSA1 and playing Redside, Longbow taking a more proactive stance seems perfectly legitimate in the face of their opposition. It's difficult for me to bash Longbow when having played both sides I can see exactly what they're usually up against.Longbow is not NATO. NATO is NATO. Longbow is a private mercenary army that may be getting some oversight from some part of NATO. The description claims that they get materials from them but we don't really know how deep the connection is or if there's much of a connection at all. I have a difficult time believing that the rest of the world sees the Rogue Isles as a threat to world security that requires an international military response.
Longbow is nothing but Ms. Liberty's private enforcers, which is why they operate on US soil as well as internationally in the Rogue Isles. They are NOT some international super hero squad fighting for the safety of all people of all nationalities, and their priorities have nothing to do with anything related to the UN or NATO.
I sometimes wonder if Longbow is secretly a project concocted by Recluse himself, to give the Isles an opponent to fight instead of challenging the status quo. It could make for an interesting story if Ms. Lib was faced with the reality that she had been manipulated into forming Longbow and that her uncle had pulled the strings all down the line to make it happen.
Speaking of Longbow, they are one of the most egregious examples of poor super group writing. They're an American force invading a sovereign nation? Wave your hands and say "NATO" and now it's okay. They're sabotaging the UN's forces in the RWZ? That's just good old-fashioned rivalry. They're policing Paragon City and pre-emptively attacking and 'arresting' people who aren't doing anything illegal while talking smack about them? That's just good Heroism.
Meanwhile, we're supposed to be cheering for them as the good guys.
Mad Magazine once did a parody of "A Clockwork Orange". In the film, the protagonist Alex is "rehabilitated" and once back in society he encounters his old Droogs (gang buddies) who are now police officers. They beat the tar out of him and leave him in the dirt. The Mad version of this scene involves Alex talking to his former underlings and the one fellow telling him "Yeah, they tried to rehabilitate us, but they couldn't so they made us policemen instead." After which they beat the stuffing out of him.
That's how I see Longbow most of the time. The sole exception is the Sefu Tendaji story, but the ironic thing is that Tendaji's story works BECAUSE he's a sharp contrast to every other Longbow operative that we run across blueside. -
Yeah, Genetic Corruption sounds amazing. Minions asleep means more time focusing on the harder targets and mopping them up later. And the -Dmg isn't anything to scoff at.
-
Repulsion Field, no.
Force Bubble...it depends. I have an FF/BR Defender and I skip Force Bubble. But I can see the utility with regards to ranged pets. I'd just skip it though. -
If you ask me? AR/Dev. Targeting Drone is great for other things besides just the +22%, and Dev itself gets a number of nice toys to play with. Caltrops is an AMAZING mitigation tool, and the upcoming Field Operative look good.
Not to say Energy isn't amazing either, but I feel AR benefits more from Devices. -
Quote:Anti-Matter has THREE Auras going at the same time: Alpha, Gaseous, and Atomic.Works for me too.
Also, I'd like to see the "power aura" that the Trolls have in the latest SSA. So far, we have Battle fury and Dark Matter, but they're two separate auras. Plus, Atta got a fancy glow eyes aura, on top of the "power aura".
The best I can kludge together is either fire(I think one style of fire works better than the other, but I can't remember which is which offhand) armor with dark matter or regen with the toggle running. -
Quote:Well, in Darrin Wade's case, while he was a completely mundane human, he had access to a ridiculous list of resources that allowed him to carry out his plan. It wasn't HIS magic that made him a threat, it was the magic of all the artifacts he had access to.That statement could be attributed to an unreliable narrator though. Either she's using it as an excuse, or she's generalizing based on her specific circumstances.
The problem isn't that magic doesn't have very strict rules, it's that magic has no rules at all. A nobody like Darrin Wade, who needs some random c-list villain's help just to steal some stuff from his former buddies, suddenly becomes a global threat because magic. A c-list hero like Desdemona suddenly becomes the most important person in Praetoria because magic. Whenever I see something like that the first question on my mind is "where did this super powerful magic come from, and why can't I do it?"
In Desdemona's case, she becomes important because she happened to be at the right place at the right time. You could replace Darrin Wade and Desdemona with anyone else and the outcome wouldn't change. Both are relatively low on the power hierarchy and got VERY lucky.
As for specific question I want to know:
How is it that UN somehow recognizes the Rogue Isles as a sovereign nation and yet after numerous invasion attempts the US just hasn't declared open war?
