The ONE thing you want to know...

For the more lore-interested among us:

You have the entirety of the COH canon (including the comics and the novels) to choose from. What is the one lore question you would most want answered, and why?

I will slightly broaden it to allow a variant of this question - what is the one in-game character you want to know more about, and why?

(I can't quite answer this question myself yet - I have so much that I want to know that I hardly even know where to start.)

I anticipate this to be a potentially spoiler-heavy thread, so if you don't want them, I'd advise you to visit another thread.

WTF are all the other mythological deities doing!?

We have some Ancient Groman gods, and some oblique reference to Carthaginian (Mot) and Celtic (Croatoa), and a supposed Egyptian-Themed AT that may or may not be in the pipes, but what about Norse, African, Chinese, Japanese, Native American, Meso-American/Olmec, Teutonic stuff? Do they even exist lore-wise?

If Masterminds didn't suck, they'd be the most powerful AT in the game.

Why was Statesman retconned out of the game like he never existed? I want the real reason to not some market goobildy gock nonsense either.

Who killed Merulina?

Hmmmmmmm....

*sits*

*thinks about it a while*

You'd probably think Khelds, given the Kheld back story guide, and all the little questions (and inconsistencies - such as how the battalion could actually have captured/wiped out an extragalactic, fairly easily multigalactic species such as the Kheldians - moreso when we have portal technology in game - and what makes Twilight Son think he's actually the last.)

Part of me, though it wouldn't be "A" question, would want to know the whole setup that was planned for the blood fo the black stream. I'm still somewhat fascinated by the concept of the group and the history, even if the EAT is a no go.

Hmmm... have to think in terms of "a question" as opposed to "could this make an interesting arc to explore."

Possibly (if the arc still works) seeing if my fairly old "Hero Corpse" arc does more than play with a possibility or three of Crey using Hero Corp.

What's the deal with Dream Doctor? He was a mysterious letter-writer and now he's a Deus Ex Machina that shows up to trump all the endgame villains and is going to throw Ouroboros into the ocean. Who watches the Dream Doctor, and are his statements about the Menders even close to being true?

I'm pretty sure those are Hydra tentacles.

Anyway, my lore curiosity is: Who are these Blood of the Black Stream guys and why have we still not seen them yet?

Who is Kaiser Soze?!

Really, I'd like to know more about Lady Grey and the Primal Lady of the Lake.

Actually the Banished Pantheon too. We've seen their minions powered up to Incarnate Level and we found out a lot about Mot, but we still know very little about any of the other gods in the pantheon, from what they (or their avatars) look like to their domains. A lot of the other cults and pantheons have shown up in the game in one form or another (Tielekku, Lilitu, Heqet, the Leviathan, etc). I mean heck, the BP didn't even have any archvillains until Mot came along.

my primary one is, what is the deal with merluna. we know she went silent, where is she now, what is she now, is there a link to the leviathan? bonus points if we learn more about the coralax other than that they are kind a nasty and have hybrid human/coralax slaves. In face, pre merluna going silent, weren't they a more civil race?

the questions about the kheldians would interest me now. they are an entire other species that we dont really know much about their cultures. I'd love to see more fleshed out on them.

Merulina is dead, per Vincent Ross' arc. Best guess as to what killed her is a Nictus, possibly Arakhn or Dirge of Shadow.

hmm, ok, have never heard of him, will hit up the wiki. thanks

ok, redside, thats why i never saw it, will have to take one of my rogues through it.

The Leviathan was made to be Merulina's avatar, so she put a pretty vast amount of her essence in it.(The Great Old One/) Merulina then went on shore to explore the arival of something/-one and was killed by this "shadowy figure".
I doubt it was Dirge of Entrophy, who while beeing a brilliant master mind is still just a single Nictus.
Anyway, what is left of Merulina is all bound in the form of Leviathan.

Story-wise, I'd like to see the original bunch of contacts matter to anyone. Dr. Cheng was the coolest contact I had worked for when originally leveling. I wish we had more with those guys.

I am curious about a LOT of things with regard to Lore, but I think one thing I would really like is:

Can I see an organizational diagram of the Malta Group? Can you only imagine how convoluted that might be? And who might be in it that we never suspected?

I want to know more about King Midas. He's one of the few "heads" of an enemy group that we never see.

The answer to this is kind of weird. We know Coyote is hangin' in First Ward, for example, but CoH lore defines a "god" very specifically: a psychic parasite that requires worship to sustain itself, grown from an animistic spirit that has taken on more responsibilities and archetypes due to human intervention. It's a fair bet that most "gods" in mythology are just Incarnates, beings fueled by the potential of their own species, rather than what defines a "god" in the CoH universe. So, the real thing that has to be sorted out before this can really be answered is... is Glooscapi a god, or is he just like the Greek gods, a really awesome dude fueled by his own endless win that we would start calling a god, even though he technically isn't?

Because the Battalion captured the well of the Kheldians, which means all the achievements of the Kheldians became the achievements of the Battalion, and escape is a form of achievement. Wells are also multi-dimensional.

They still don't. All the forms of Mot are Elite Bosses, not AVs.

Main Hero: Mazey - level 50 + 1 fire/fire/fire blaster.
Main Villain: Chained Bot - level 50 + 1 Robot/FF Mastermind.

(1) Stuff like this is part of the reason I despise the whole "well" bit, and
(2) that makes... no sense at all. It's like saying "There was an arsonist who burned down a house on fifth and main, and because it was an important house, every city in the world burned down." And that comparison wouldn't be hyperbole.

If you scale it down to being "they've exterminated/captured the Kheldians *in this galaxy*" or "Along their invasion route," it's... slightly less difficult to swallow (going back to the arsonist, "one house caught fire, and it spread to several others in the neighborhood.")

(3) Given incarnate trials and what Prometheus's group "knows," the whole "captured the well" bit should be... well, moot, unless the devs are suddenly going to de-Incarnate every Kheldian that's reached that level. Heck, Khelds should (by that line of thought) be twice as powerful, as they'd have two "wells" to draw from, potentially. Still... Find some of the Khelds, start the prep-work, and raise a new one to that level. Scaling it down, it's like saying "They've bombed the HQ and killed General Smith" kills any chance of ever having an army ever again... as opposed to promoting a capable officer to take General Smith's place. There might be some chaos immediately after, sure, that's a given.

As mentioned... no, I don't like the whole "well" thing to begin with.

Yeah, I'd trade the ability to have any one question answered for the power to completely and utterly excise the entire Well storyline from the game. It's unbelievably bad, for one thing; try explaining it to someone who doesn't play the game and watch the look on their face. And it casts the players as 1976-era D&D munchkins.

Now, that's competely unfair.

You get that same look trying to explain it to some people who DO play the game.
