Let's chat seriously about PC Animals...

How about a centaur, wemic, or similar? A hybrid humanoid/4-legged model might be possible now.

At the very best, you have superpowered animals, and they're strictly a niche/novelty area of the genre (Legion of Superpets, anyone?) and at worst, they're anthropromorphised into animals with human-shaped bodies. I have trouble honestly seeing this get up as an idea beyond minion status as we have it with Beast Summoning. Things are already crowded if you have one set of player-controlled animals on a map, and to add to that with power effects...? I could just imagine the furore that'd cause on the forums.

I see things at a near-critical mass as it is right now, and I think this would push things over the edge a bit, to be honest.

S.
I think that's rather beside the point, though. The OP asked:

"While some may consider that to be the end of the line of the rig, I'd like to think that the use and steady improvement of the rig means that we'll have player-controlled animal models in the not-too-distant future.

Obviously, this is a ton of work, but Paragon ALSO has a ton of skilled folks working there at the moment. I don't think it's an unreachable goal.

That said, what do we, as players, expect from PC animals? "

If you think using the 4-leg rig anymore is overexposure or a player controlled body type unlikely is a perfectly reasonable stance (I, for one, don't think we'll ever get it) but that doesn't answer the OP, now does it?

technically we already have snake people in the game. the issue with the request is not that its impossible but that they cant just chop up animations, new body types need entirely new animations, both older ones and going forward. many of these ideas would personally work for me, but I realized that the amount of animation work required would make them unlikely as body types.
as is fairly common gray market information right about now, shapeshifts into unspecified animals seems to be a likelihood, and they currently exist for khelds, and that solves the animation issue by forcing players into non-customizable forms with limited animations. that is far more reasonable than making them body types, which the developers have been understandably hesitant to add.

Very likely, and not unspecified

...they have that powerset. Beast Mastery/Traps. Detonator, and all that.

.....'Cause that's JUST what this game needs, references to "Disney verses."

I'm not really coming up with any other Marvel/DC halfbreeds other than Tigra and the truly craptacular Beta Ray Bill when casting my mind over those specific universe, but if you say there's a metric ton of them, whatevs.

Demanding player access to the CoX version of Beta Ray Bill strikes me as making about as much sense as going over to Lord of the Rings Online and saying, "WHAT THIS GAME NEEDS IS SOME GIANT MORPHING ROBOTS, YEAH!"

Lord of the Rings is fantasy, they have no robots that I know of and this would be inappropriate to expect giant robots in that MMO. [Analogies never work, yet I try anyways] We already have enough furries behaving disgracefully in Pocket D, can't see a need to make the problem worse. Be grateful we have as much furry stuff as we do.

Everyone behaves like that in the D on Virtue, not just the furries

That's no kind of 'awesome' I want in this game, I can tell you that.

Allow me to answer the question in the OP then, according to my own opinion: I expect not to have them. And this makes me glad as the majority of the powersets would look stupid when wielded by dogs and cats.

In answer to the OP, if they were to give us player controlled animals, I picture them doing a cross between how kheldians currently operate and the DC character Beast Boy. We would learn how to transform in to different animals as we level and those forms would have different attacks and powers that could be improved upon.

Devs would post more if they could say "hi!" without people whining because they wanted them to say "hello".

People keep using the word 'furry'

I've got, as possible translations... to have fur, internet phobia, and anthropomorphic characters.

And that particular one looks pretty right, IMO.

On topic, I find it rather funny how some will take a simple circumstantial question so personally, like the very thought of it will endanger their life so will make any excuse, argument, exaggeration or stereotype to discredit the topic. I wouldn't put it past someone to go to such lengths to make racist comments if only they wouldn't be modded soon after.

Despite my posting in the thread, I'm *far* from taking any of this personal as that'd be pointless. The same crop of intent arose when the Animal Pack was released, when the vanity pets were sold and soon when the next related update is released. It's obviously harmless so no point in taking those particulars any more seriously than that.

Let's just hope, when I get by rocket barking dog, I don't remember this thread and necro it to rub it in.

Not wholly sure who you're addressing/arguing with.

Anyone that would begrudge me/others when I'm rolling out a 4-legged character into Paragon City.

See, I figured it was related to that but it was like, you were responding to a lot more than what was being said, so I got confused.

Anyway, a lot of nerds have a furry phobia. Because... cooties, or something. God knows. I just remember all the sturm and drang over the animal pack. I'm not immune. I was worried about using an animal in my name in case people thought I was one. I fail at being smug and above it all.

Well, it's this kind of attitude that makes me wish it would happen even more, and which motivates me to support those who want it to happen.

So, Leo, you want sword-biting dogs? OK, I'm with you on that

You should have tried searching for "wrist-mounted dog launcher."

Did you see that video of the Gray wolf Sif using a sword from the Dark Souls game? I linked it in a previous post. That'd basically be a preview of what I think it'd look like.
