Flying Disc = Big Red Ball?
Little interest of ever using it, but I bought it for my accounts to support the tech behind it.
I'm hoping it'll eventually be used in a discus based power set.

We've been saving Paragon City for eight and a half years. It's time to do it one more time.
(If you love this game as much as I do, please read that post.)
This is no big red ball.
The big red ball is a mystical and wondrous object.
The flying disc is just a Frisbee with the trademark removed.
All hail the big red ball.
Some members of my sg have commented wondering when we'll get the Slinky power. Perhaps even a Mr. Hoppity travel power...
I want to think that it is a preview for some sort of upcomming support powerset where you give your teammates the ability to trigger their buffs themselves and you are responsible for giving them "buff tokens" to hold onto until needed.

August 31, 2012. A Day that will Live in Infamy. Or Information. Possibly Influence. Well, Inf, anyway. Thank you, Paragon Studios, for what you did, and the enjoyment and camaraderie you brought.
This is houtex, aka Mike, signing off the forums. G'night all. - 10/26/2012
Well... perhaps I was premature about that whole 'signing off' thing... - 11-9-2012
Flying disc has a beginning and end point which the game engine can handle.
Big red ball would depend on the physics engine which is located in one's graphics card. The physics one sees on one computer is different from what one sees on another computer. If you run into some detritus from Propel and it goes flying off in some direction... other players see it going off in a different direction. That makes playing with a big red ball.... problematic.... unless you just wanted to play a game of catch with it.

We can beat them, just for one day
We can be heroes, just for one day
And to 'celebrate I22' dev comes to AP to play with the Flying Disc with ppl, including announcing you need the power to play and go to the market to buy it.
I was a little sick to my stomach.

I thought it was a nice marketing move to show off something which is otherwise a little difficult to figure out from the store description. It's not tremendously expensive, and has absolutely no advancement benefits, but provides a little cash to Paragon so they can develop more free issues like I22.

And I felt it was schilling a worthless and over priced novelty item, and was tacky.

I'm pretty sure I specifically stated you *don't* need the power to join in and then gave instructions as to how to use the temp power . I was throwing Flying Discs to anyone who came near.

(But, while I hope some ppl enjoy it, unless it was the side effect of some new powerset development, I for one have no understanding why time/effort was spent to develop it.)
It sounds like the flying disc power is conceptually a variation on the big red ball.
Does that make you happy or does it make you want an actual big red ball that much more? I have to wait until friday to buy the paragon points and try it out first hand. |
Yes, yes it is and this is the first thing that hopped to my mind.
Bought on both accounts and loving it!
Questions about the game, either side? /t @Neuronia or @Neuronium, with your queries!

What I clearly remember reading was "buy it in the market for 250PP". If there was more and I missed it because I was in a mission having a disagreement with Hellions, I apologize.

That said, developing it into a "Thrown Weapon" blast set would be pretty cool; I'd especially like to see it worked up using the chain attack mechanics from ElM/ElC for having the projectile bounce from target to target.

your = Belonging to you.
you're = Contraction meaning "You are."
Ur = The name of an ancient Mesopotamian city.
ur = This is not a word.
It was stated at some point (can't remember if it was forum or UStream) that basically, they made it because they wanted to. SCR applies, but I doubt it took very long to make, and if they happened to have a new guy in the dept, it would be the perfect "get your feet wet" sort of activity to get them up to speed, while not counting on them for anything critical.

Because it (or something very similar) has been asked (and by "asked" I mean "begged") for by the community since there was a community. My very first thought when I saw it in the market was "OOOOOH! BIG RED BALL!" I don't know if an actual big red ball will ever be possible, but this is close enough for me. I'm ecstatic about this. The time was not wasted even a little bit. It just shows that they listen to what the community wants. We've wanted a completely nonsensical item to pass around for no purpose other than happy fun good times since before the game was released. We finally got something. It's not what we specifically asked for, but, I, and many others, have always seen The Big Red Ball as more of a symbol for what we wanted, rather than a specific item.
|
But in 4+ years, this is the first time I remember hearing of this begged request.
Really, I hope ppl enjoy it. I don't get it. I probably never will (the similar effect with the new Christmas item (whose name I already forget) could not even keep me entertained enough to earn both badges). And the price point seems far too high. (ridiculously)
My seemingly mis-reading Zwill (or failing to read everything) just brought out my curmudgeon. (Again. He seems to be out a lot lately - the curmudgeon, not Zwill... not that Zwill hasn't been out, or couldn't be... or won't be, 'cause he could. Probably will. Just perhaps not with my curmudgeon)
I'll take your word for it. (4+ years, first I'd heard of this begged request.)

Now, the disc is NOT the Big Red Ball but it's darned close. It's something you can throw, your friends can get it as well and it's clean, noncombat fun!
