Discussion: Featured Items at the Paragon Market - 2/21/12
I'm not going to be buying any of these tokens, but since one of my accounts is VIP and both have GR codes, it sounds like I'm not the target audience anyways.
I, and several others, have had little to no use for the Transfer Tokens included with the sub, so if you're open to suggestions, here's mine: Ditch the free monthly token, and replace it with a generic token that, when claimed, can be redeemed for a Server Transfer, Alignment Change, Rename, or Respec. Write the code for the menu so that it's easy to add new items to it, just in case you add new services in the future that would be appropriate to add. I'd suggest making it retroactive, but I suspect that there's no difference between the free transfer and the purchased one, so the system wouldn't be able to tell which ones to convert and which to leave. Maybe just ditch all the $10 service tokens and make one master token (available in stacks of 1, 3 and 5 with small discounts for the stacks), that can be redeemed for whichever single service you want, via the menu I mentioned above. This would cut down bloat in the market somewhat, and add versatility to the token purchases. |
The development team and this community deserved better than this from NC Soft. Best wishes on your search.
With all of the abuse heaped on him since Freedom went live, I'm surprised this is the topic that got the Ghost's goat.
I don't mind the free server transfer tokens. I've even used a few for name changes or retiring characters that I don't want to play or delete (I put them on the French server and pretend they're on vacation in the Riviera.) I have a few piled up now, though, and no particular use for them.
I'd love to see the transfer tokens become something more flexible, as people have been saying. That sounds great. I can see why they wouldn't want to do that, though.
I'd also be happy if the monthly reward were random. Take that same list of consumable items of the same value as the transfer token, and give us one at random each month. That might push people into trying out some of the consumables and deciding they like them. The randomness could also be fun. Of course, you'd be guaranteed to get complaints from some people when their free bonus reward isn't what they wanted, but people are always going to complain about something.

Man why even play the game anymore. Just buy your way to success. Next up: Incarnate Powers on the Market.

There are a lot of good points brought up here.
I really do appreciate all the feedback, and they will be discussed internally. |
Thanks GF for responding
I agree, I'd really like to see some sort of "account token" to be redeemed in a menu of some sorts (that can be expanded when a new thing could work in it).

I like the idea of making the "free server change token" more flexible. Specifically, I'd like to see the server change token change into an "account service token" as suggested previously, with the following features:
1 Account Service Token can convert into the player's choice of: -1 Server Transfer Token -1 Character Rename Token -1 Alignment Change Token -1 Character Respec Token -10 Super Packs -500 Paragon Points** **Specifically less than the 800 the above would cost as conversion into Paragon Points is significantly more flexible. Furthermore, stocking up these tokens and being able to swap them for more than 600 paragon points would allow some "abuse" of stored tokens when any of these services go on sale for 600pp. 500, IMO, seems a reasonable markdown for having full "point" flexibility. |
Seriously, the free server transfer tokens are more targeted to an audience that likes to play on different servers. Some of us though NEVER go to another server. Hell, I have bought up all 4 pages worth of slots on Freedom and will buy more if more pages ever become available. If I ever were to spend a token, it would be to transfer a character and transfer back just to change it's name.
For me, free server tokens just suck. Period.

Months later, it's probably safe to say the huge rush of Exalted transfers and returning players has slowed to a steady trickle, so they're less useful, and to fewer people. Another reason to go back and look at it again, I guess.
FUN FACT: That burst of light when you level up is actually the effectiveness escaping from your enhancements all at once.
The only real thing I'd like to say is that, yes... most of the items on the market are overly priced. I could find myself using my points for stuff if I didn't have to invest so much in them. Those prices just turn me away.
Hey we appreciate when you devs communicate with us, even when we disagree.

While I'm sure we wildly disagree on many points, there's nothing more I would love than to have a long, long one on one discussion (or just an open, public one, whatever) with Ghost Falcon (or a number of other devs, really, even non CoH ones) and pull out my big ole "list of things that bug me" and at least get a good feel for the whats and the hows and the whys.
Perhaps once I get some proper free time I'll make a good faith attempt at breaking down all of my issues with the Market in as nice a way I can... (At least that list is only about ten points strong or so. Grievances regarding enemy powers and powerset quibbles...now there's a whole book worth of material.)

hmmm... what i got out of reading 9 pages.....
Main points
1. people think alignment change is overpriced
2 Development disagrees
3 400 points is too little for market that every month outputs more than 400 points of stuff
4 Super packs are a waste of money...

It 'adds' nothing to the value of my subscription, as I suspect many others.

I hope you make a Open Discussion topic asking for player feedback about the Paragon Market on these forums. Anywhere you make it though, I'd be grateful for a link.

I am always open to suggestions to improve the Paragon Market, although this particular thread is probably not the ideal place to discuss. When I've had time, I've gone back and fixed some things, re-arranged some areas, improved keyword searches, etc. Hit me up via PM or I'll start a thread over in the Beta Forums to get some actionable changes done. If it's just re-ordering or re-categorizing, those changes might be easy. If the feedback is about the visual layout, then changes may not be possible or feasible.

I've got top to bottom feedback percolating in the thought tank - presentation, products, price points, consumer habits, advertising, promotions, the works. When it comes time to analyze and break down something, I don't mess around.

Oh, I agree, these threads aren't the best venue, especially not for generalized feedback. I think an open thread on the beta boards would be best. Personally I'm a bit skittish when it comes to PMs.

Edit: It's a nice idea, one I can get behind, One if properly done could actually improve the game...but with the way things are now I just don't see it happening.

Look at it this way... at least they'd be showing the players that they're making an attempt to listen. Sometimes it seems most of our comments are just unnoticed or ignored, so it might be nice to know that some of our thoughts might be taken into consideration. Again they wouldn't have to follow any of the suggestions we might put out... but at least they will have shown an attempt to listen.
Agreed.

Also, could we get the badge for using the Black Market changed to "Morally Bankrupt?"
