'I'd rather not,' the Cat remarked.
'Don't be impertinent,' said the King, 'and don't look at me like that!' He got behind Alice as he spoke.
'A cat may look at a king,' said Alice.

Much better, thanks! But that was too easy. You Google'd my username here and found one of my LiveJournals.
My fault for using the same moniker for such things. |
So have you been to the West Corner of the Park lately? I've been there, but it was years ago.

How is that guy supposed to know that you hate teaming unless he asks? I hope you have yourself set to "decline invites" with a warning in the search comment field because otherwise this level of indignation would look awfully irrational!
|
I don't have to set my flag to red. The default gray "Not Seeking" is a clear indication I'm not seeking teammates.
The devs were forced to add the red "Do not accept invites" in order to block [pancake]holes that harass people with blind invites.
Forbin, have you ever tried to fill out a TF at off hours? It turns out you can rapidly find seven interested parties who were "not seeking" without much trouble on the smallest of servers. Seeking implies action on your part, it says nothing about receptiveness to the concept.
If you want to remain anonymous on the internet, you have to be extremely careful. It took me exactly three minutes to verify all three of Aneko's assertions. I won't specify how publicly, but if you PM me I'll tell you exactly how it was probably done.
Be careful out there. |
Dang, I'm getting old...or she's taken down the stuff; I was curious if I could do the same but I was not...heh..
Edit:
Oh and I'd have to agree, to a point, with PleaseRecycle. I'm usually always at the default "not seeking" but...usually I will team with almost anyone. So a nice random tell won't always be shot down.
I think if "everyone" (or at least more people) used that flag system you might have a point Forbin...but I'm guessing most don't even know it exists; let alone touch it.
I could be wrong though

I'm not quite that bad now, but I was for a long while.
I'm curious, are you an extrovert? We do get a lot of introverts in this game due to the instanced nature of play, and unexpected (or constant) social interaction can be quite a burden on introverted people.

Heh Void, I don't exactly consider myself the life of the party but I guess I could be a heck of a lot more introverted than I am, it seems.
Due to this thread I've spent some of the day whipping up pick up teams to just do whatever I had available. An arc, some tips, a SSA. I don't usually start teams quite that often but it was a good time. Sure, people would drop out and need replacing with little explanation when you're just filling spots with anyone who responds, but in each case a sort of core group built up and developed the beginnings of a rapport.
Not sure what else to add at this point other than to reiterate my recommendation of trying it to those who haven't lately.
I wS soloing yesterday doing some arcs and I got a tell reading "can i join ur team pls?"
I responded "sorry, I'm soloing right now". The reply "ur selfish. Let me join u" came back. I Didn't bother replying to that. Soloing is selfish now? Lol Eco |
A young brave goes on his spirit quest alone. He doesn't grab 7 others to help him while he door-sits.
This is why I hate that much of the Incarnate stuff is team-only. You only reach your full potential by challenging yourself, not by hanging out and socializing.
"Oh, but Pork" they say "MMO is for Multiplayer! The whole point is the social aspect!"
If that's so, then why are the Global channels so devoid of social chatter? Most of it is just LFT-spam or just dead. If social, there would be more conversations between players.
And I do consider the LFT in the Help channel to be spam if the player doesn't have thier LFT flag on, or when they repeat themselves so fast that there are no replies between thier requests. It's the Help channel, not the LFT channel.
Thank you for listening,
BBQ_Pork.
PS: I'll be soloing with one eye on the Help channel if any new player needs actual advice and have a global channel open.
I'd say that teaming is more selfish. Heroes earn thier own dang XP and fight thier own battles. They don't ask people to do it for them.

I tend to solo a lot on my Traps toons since Traps usually isn't team friendly. The worse response I recall getting to "I'm soloing" is a repeat spam of asking to join my team...
Who do I have to *&^% around here to get more Targeted AoE recipes added?

Something that might not be obvious, to some people tells are analogous to phone calls. For someone with a perspective like that, getting a tell from a stranger with no direct reason to establish a connection is kind of like having someone you don't know the next suburb over call you at home ask if you want to a cookout. It can feel an intrusion.

How else would you go about asking if you can join an existing team or get other people to join yours? Spam broadcast? Now, that's annoying AND ineffective.

"Dark Armor is a complete waste as a tanking set."
To a guesser a blind tell or invite from a stranger is overly presumptuous while a broadcast doesn't create any obligations. Even if the only obligation a tell creates is to reply it still is an unwanted obligation created by the sender.
One tell is fine. If you say no, any request after that is pretty intrusive. It's a lot like telling a child they can't have a toy and receiving the "WHY NOOOOOOOOOT" response.

Sending people polite tells has been a perfectly valid and accepted form or recruiting/getting on a team, for as long as I've been playing. It's only recently, it seems, that people are getting their knickers in a bunch about it.

Yea, I know. You wont ever catch me spamming people, or being obnoxious if they decline (or even don't respond at all.) But I was reacting to the comments from some who apparently find any form of unsolicited tells intrusive.

I do get really wound up when the servers at fast food joints ask me "wpuld you like to go large/a drink/fries/a desert with that?", though. I want to respond with "Are you insinuating that I'm a cretin? Because surely only a moron would come into your esrablishment wanting fries/a drink/a desert/to go large and then FORGET TO ACTUALLY ASK FOR IT?"
But I don't. No point. Sometimes I say something like "I'd like a Bigmac, and only a Bigmac, and I don't want you to offer me anything else at all, ok?" though.
