"I'm soloing" ... "ur selfish"
Sometimes I team and sometimes I don't, so I'm on and off hide and my LFG flag changes from day to day. If I'm in the mood to solo and I get an invite, I generally reply with a quick "No thank you", then go into hide and set the LFG flag to decline all invites. I've never had a problem. Sometimes I'll get a tell back saying, "ok, have fun" or something like that, but never a complaint or a problem.

One random invite- I'll ignore.
The second invite and I'm adding a note "annoying, do not team with" Hit me up for 3rd invite in a row? Welcome to the ignore spammer list.... |
Oh people on union know what i do for blind invites
1 - 3 blind invites? I dont mind, can be a mistake.
3 - 7? I ask politely for them to stop as i am not interested.
7 - 9? I start to get a bit grrr at them.
10? They get destroyed on broadcast!!!!! Never get an 11

Here's a wacky idea, if someone sends a tell asking to join up with you, why not invite them? You were soloing and now you're teamed. Do you really care about their grammar skills or presumption? Do you feel that a random lowbie is an unconscionable burden upon your shoulders? If you're just taking it easy and soloing while you do something else you could say "I'm taking it easy and soloing while I do something else. Still want to join?" They might.
I almost always invite anyone who asks because if nothing else it's nice to have an audience for my badass spawn shredding.

But . . . . . thats wrong I THINK the point of the thread is that when people solo [for many reasons, such as going at your own pace/doing other things same time] that you get strange messages or set into a certain cliche.
Inviting somebody still while your doing other things will make you seem like your just taking it easy while the other person does all the work for you, thus this will get a bad reputation for yourself eventually if it is done on a constant basis
Or is it just me?

Well, I usually play for teaming. When I solo, I am always polite to people who ask. For instance, if they ask me to join a TF I don't have time for, I thank them for asking me and wish them good luck. If someone ask me when I write for an AE arc, I just reply that I work on an AE arc, describe it briefly and suggest that we can team later.
In addition, I set the lfg flag properly, and describe my current gaming preference in my team search field, ie "Prefer TF, SFAE or Trials", "anything goes", "working on AE arc", "tip missions, feel free to join", "solo atm" etc.
This have worked fine to me all the time.

My story on union.virtueverse.com
'I don't like the look of it at all,' said the King: 'however, it may kiss my hand if it likes.'
'I'd rather not,' the Cat remarked.
'Don't be impertinent,' said the King, 'and don't look at me like that!' He got behind Alice as he spoke.
'A cat may look at a king,' said Alice.
How is that guy supposed to know that you hate teaming unless he asks? I hope you have yourself set to "decline invites" with a warning in the search comment field because otherwise this level of indignation would look awfully irrational!
A word of warning then - just don't announce in any public channel that you solo - apparently its illegal and you get replies to the tune of "Why do you play an MMO and solo?!"
For some reason some idiots find it hard to fathom that you just enjoy playing the game. It is a chance to read the lore and get to know more deeply the plot and gain better experience.
I wS soloing yesterday doing some arcs and I got a tell reading "can i join ur team pls?"
I responded "sorry, I'm soloing right now". The reply "ur selfish. Let me join u" came back. I Didn't bother replying to that. Soloing is selfish now? Lol Eco |
"Do you love me?"
"whut"
"You wish to join my team. Do you love me?"
"uhhh sure lol"
"I love you too."
*send invite*
*joins team*
*enters mission*
*kick teammate*
"I have commitment issues."
EDIT: In the spirit of full disclosure, I have zero issues with random teaming, so long as the person is asking for help with their run. But Cap's would-be cohort who sent the jerkish response demanded something sublime and elegant in response.

That was the original premise but then the rest of the thread became a melodic chorus of general disdain for those who ask for an invite rather than waiting to get one. You can solo all you want and far be it from me to tell you not to. On that note the reason you might want to reconsider that stance is that the fun you'd have with a helper could outweigh the vindication you feel in smacking down all requests to team, one after another, with ruthless efficiency.
Here's my methods.
"can I join ur team"/"team?"/"can i join plz"
Replies: Nothing/Sorry, mostly AFK, in mission so I don't log/No, I'm soloing.
The last two replies almost always lead to:
"plz"
Reply: No.
Any further requests are met with a global/character ignore combo and a one-star note.
Blind invite 1: Decline.
Blind invite 2: Send tell to inviter that boils down to "I don't want to team, don't invite me" followed by a decline.
Blind invite 3: Decline and hit the team leader with a global/character ignore combo. Add note, hit one star, write an appropriate note describing one-star.
I know that might seem a little extreme, but if you can't take the hint after two turn-downs you're not the kind of person I want to share game time with.

I occasionally get a tell from someone asking to join "my team". I don't bother replying, since I'm not on a team. I haven't received a "ur selfish" comment in years, although I do remember more than one. If I received a comment like that now, I'd probably respond that I don't want to burden them with my poor teaming skills.

(Unless its blind invites, in that case I just click 'No'. If they can't be bothered to /tell first then, well, I'll send my answer back the same way.)

In the room the women come and go
Talking of Michelangelo.
I've found that a simple "No thx" to all invites gets no arguments or at best a simple "k" in return.
And, yes, it is selfish in that I am spending my free time the way the way I want to without impinging on anyone else's privilege to do the same.
I've never been on hide even once. I don't get a lot of requests or blind invites on Virtue anyway, but if I do a simple, "No thanks" works most of the time. No need to try and justify it beyond that.

As well, I have to say that I think it's these people bugging others to join a team and not taking "no" for an answer who are the selfish ones, insisting we do things their way and on their terms. As most solo players are splitting their time between the game and other things, well that's just being conscientious of others who, if they were teaming with you at that moment, would have to wait for you to come back each and every time. Of course, that would be rude, so that's why we play solo!

Many of my own characters aren't hidden and I do join PUGs with them sometimes... Anigan (hero-side SJ Brute) in particular seems to be an absolute random-lowbie-toons-driven-by-newbie-players magnet for some reason... But others in my crew were designed to be solo characters. I prefer to play them that way, and having someone else tagging along just wouldn't work as well or be as enjoyable as running them on their own.
Anigan the brute would be just fine with a random stranger or two tagging along, even if they turned out to be inexperienced or reckless. Most of my stalkers, as a counter point, wouldn't... Running Whisper or Anteros or Kestrel with people who aren't familiar with the way I play them, and may not be very saavy about the game in general, would be a nightmare. That's just not the way I want to spend my fun-time.
So, yeah... I'm all for being inclusive on principle, but not all characters are equally suited for random teaming and I don't think it's a bad thing to recognize that and respond to invites and teaming requests with it in mind.
