Forum maintenance postponed AGAIN.

Honest question because, so far, I've only dealt with the "logging in" one.

Of course, now that I've said that, I'm sure my computer will soon blow up!

Well, the last "fix" they tried (and hammed up), broke the layout hero-side. Missing naviation images, some of the elements of the pages have blown their boundaries now.

Sounds like the forum guy is a jack-of-all-trades, next week's postponement will be because he's busy changing light bulbs, cleaning toilets, and degreasing the canteen

The only logical conclusion from this statement is that you believe that the game has no paying players (subscription or microtransaction) at all anymore. Otherwise it's a nonsense statement. Although if that's the case then i would agree forums used by paying customers should take precedence.
...
See in a normal game with both paying and free customers if the servers go down then no one, even those paying a subscription, is able play the game at all. It sounds funny, i know (the concept caught me off guard as well), but apparently that's how things work.

Forum maintenance isn't the same as development. Forum maintenance is not the stage where changes to the forums are developed. It's more the part where they back up the forums and do maintenance on the software and hardware and then restart it. To the best of my knowledge doing maintenance on a server is not a totally different skill set from setting a server. In fact they seem pretty similar to me.

Moreover, they shouldn't be "fiddling" with the live servers to "try and fix" things. They should have a copy in-house someplace that they've beat upon to come up with the fix in the first place.

Otherwise it's just random hack on top of random hack with no documentation. In a live environment no less.

I posted about why I think Hyperstrike is right because this has been going for so long (and it's especially bothersome to people using the hero skin) and some implied he was whining and etc but my first thought was, 'wow they must be short on staff to have the same people work on these two things' - or maybe it's a lame excuse

Yeah, not going to deny that. The fact that the Hero Skin was broken so simply and blatantly implies to me that there are some definite issues with how things are being handled by NCsoft. Probably related to the cuts at NCsoft NA if i had to guess. Maybe the IT department is now something like five guys for all of NCsoft's North American operations?

CoH, red headed step child again.

CoH store problems pre Freedom, well the store is NCSoft's web guys, nothing that Paragon Studios can help with.

Server status page on the website being fixed, well that's NCSoft's web guys department, nothing that Paragon Studios can do.

Paragon Points, transfer token and Paragon Reward token comes at different times, original idea of getting all your tokens up front when you pay your subscription couldn't be done when Freedom rolled out. Well billing and those issues are NCSoft's domain, nothing that Paragon Studios can do.

Forum software, at least hero skin, goes all wonky. Well fixing that is NCSoft's job ...

See a pattern?

It's like renting a building for your store but the parking lot has enormous pot holes and the parking lot lights are all burned out except one furthest away from your front door and the heating system isn't working quite right. But all of that is your landlord's responsibility but it makes your store look bad.

Not even cable repairmen are this bad anymore when it comes to scheduling.

Pretty much this. We're talking about coordinating between the team who did the development (Seattle) with the team who maintain the servers (Austin) in order to roll out changes which were deployed and tested in a development environment to a live environment.

So it's basically the Austin Server Guys who're too busy with the launch? That actually makes sense.

Lineage 2 had their Free to Play launch yesterday and it's initial response has been very positive; so positive that they actually had to spin up a new shard on rather quick notice to support their concurrency. Unfortunately, it meant that this took priority over our forums maintenance, which is understandable.

Right now we're looking at the maintenance happening on Monday, however I'm not putting stake in the sand on that until I get further confirmation later on today.
We don't play Lineage 2. What's happening in Lineage 2 has nothing to do with us.

it has plenty to do with us when we're owned by the same company

Lineage 2 obviously does affect us, which is confirmed in the very post you set out ot dismiss.

And I don't like it either.

The login problems, which causes a multitude of OTHER problems such as losing track of "last read" posts. This has been around for well over a year now.
The broken hero skin, which causes lost images and broken page borders. This started a month or two ago.

The fact that you were able to post that shows the forums are not COMPLETELY broken. Thus, the previous post I was responding to is hyperbole.

Have there been issues? Yes. Have some of them been ongoing? Again, yes. Is the forum completely screwed up? No.

I post almost daily, as well, and haven't encountered anything too horrible. YMMV.

I don't pay for a Lineage 2 subscription. It has nothing to do with me.

So saying our resources are being used on Lineage 2 is hardly justified to me.

As much as any forum bugs (which don't seem chronic from my end) around here may, bug, me. If the situation were reversed I would choose servers too.

If City of Heroes had some big server/load problems and Lineage II had some mild forum borkage, I would prefer our servers being fixed first then Lineage II's forums.
