Forum maintenance postponed AGAIN.
I absolutely understand (and share) your frustration with this, however this was, unfortunately, unpreventable.
Lineage 2 had their Free to Play launch yesterday and it's initial response has been very positive; so positive that they actually had to spin up a new shard on rather quick notice to support their concurrency. Unfortunately, it meant that this took priority over our forums maintenance, which is understandable.
Right now we're looking at the maintenance happening on Monday, however I'm not putting stake in the sand on that until I get further confirmation later on today.

C'mon guys. It's not like the forums are part the public face you show to people here.
And they've only been COMPLETELY borked for a month. Nobody'll notice. And hey, who cares that you've blown off what? THREE announced maintenance windows now? The situation has passed ludicrous, come all the way around, kicked ludicrous in the nuts and is coming up on lapping it again. Either fix it or put up an official "We don't give a ****" announcement. |
It's an online forum for a game, not a service that takes care of an ICU or something.
The unmitigated arrogance of many of the forum regulars on these boards is what needs 'maintenance' IMO.
"The side that is unhappy is not the side that the game was intended to make happy, or promised to make happy, or focused on making happy. The side that is unhappy is the side that is unhappy. That's all." - Arcanaville
"Surprised your guys' arteries haven't clogged with all that hatred yet." - Xzero45
Hyperbole much?

It is however something VIP's actually pay for so yeah.
It shouldn't be left to fester without maintance.
Heck last night forum access was dire.

Were this some joe-blow PHPBB someplace, it wouldn't be a huge deal.
But the fact that this has been an ongoing, and escalating issue just looks bad.
Not saying I "deserve" better forums or any such self-entitled BS. I'm merely calling attention to the fact that the issues with the forums are being allowed to fester entirely too long.
I'm not offended--this is hilarious. At least now we know when they say, "Sorry, this is not a priority issue," we know what is.
Congratulations, Lineage II. Mom and dad like you better than City!
There are no words for what this community, and the friends I have made here mean to me. Please know that I care for all of you, yes, even you. If you Twitter, I'm MrThan. If you're Unleashed, I'm dumps. I'll try and get registered on the Titan Forums as well. Peace, and thanks for the best nine years anyone could ever ask for.
So we get to wait again, whilst yet another of NCSofts's MMO's heads down the toilet. Yay.

I'm reading that you seem to think that there should be some kind of doubt over which of the 2 things NCSoft should prioritize.

Personly I'm thinking the guys in charge of forum maintance shouldn't also be the 'servers go poof' guys.

If you, Golden Girl, are insisting that I am drawing some kind of connection between today's forum maintenance (which was for something entirely unrelated) and the need to repurpose resources towards Lineage II after they had more server load than was expected--then you won't get that satisfaction, because that's not what I'm saying.
What I'm saying is that today is just another small footnote supporting the fact that City of Heroes itself is not a priority item. The game is not, the bugs are not, and the customers certainly are not. And much like the fifteen+ month old forum logout bug, it's been like this for quite some time.
There's absolutely NO doubt.

@Winter. Because I'm Winter. Period.
I am a blaster first, and an alt-oholic second.
The wider-than-normal view of any thread while using the "heroic" skin. That was supposed to be fixed today as well as changing it so that every VIP's username would be gold by default. The log-out bug was not on the fix list.

Doesn't seem more pressing than F2P to me. Especially from a business standpoint.
Just gonna leave this here:

"You don't lose levels. You don't have equipment to wear out, repair, or lose, or that anyone can steal from you. About the only thing lighter than debt they could do is have an NPC walk by, point and laugh before you can go to the hospital or base." -Memphis_Bill
We will honor the past, and fight to the last, it will be a good way to die...
I can cope a few more days
Edit:
You know, when the forums are fixed eventually, its going to feel wierd *starts thread asking for alternative wider threads*
@Damz Find me on the global channel Union Chat. One of the best "chat channels" ingame!
Sorry you feel this way.

It's a bit different than all the whining people do everytime Facebook changes something, they aren't spending money there unless they want to play the games or whatever. Yet, everyone in my wall is complaining like mad, like they were paying for it (that sidebar news feed ticker, I think only now people in Brazil got it - I've had it for a month or so and I'm in Brazil but maybe it's because I use my Facebook in English).
So well, I think that, as a paying customer, I am entitled to complain about a bug that shouldn't be so hard to circumvent (c'mon I never saw a forum so bugged and for so long, and I frequented some pretty amateurish ones - in the sense of having little people and the default theme and etc, from vbulletin to phpbb to other ones I forgot).
Still, either have personnel spend time setting up hardware to alleviate excessive load so that a game's servers don't implode leaving tens of thousands unable to play a game, or running maintenance to fix some annoying but hardly crippling forum bugs. Hmmm, i can see where that would be a tough call.
And while i really want to get the forum issues fixed ASAP i have to admit i would choose the server if it was my call.
*crossing fingers that Monday will finally be the day the forums get fixed* (And quite possibly broken in all new ways.)

And since when to forum development staff work on setting up game servers anyway? Totally different skill set.
