"Here Until The Servers Shut-Down" ...still true for you?

I heard this mantra a lot over the years. What's interesting now is that you can stick around until the servers shut down...for free! So I guess the REAL question is...are you going to be a VIP?

I will be staying VIP. Despite the SSA & Incarnate storylines not being my cup of tea. My reasons? RP on Virtue and using the MA to help facilitate it. Also PVP, and the current PVP league on Freedom. Player-run events are what's keeping me VIP. (Even if I probably don't need to be in order to do what I want to do.)

That plus I've grown too used to alpha slot!

So what does the future hold for you? VIP or Premium? I can see the appeal of Premium...especially for people that have been here a long time and get so much for free due to the Paragon Rewards programme!

I'll remain a VIP as long as I can and I will likely never voluntarily leave this game.

Honestly? I don't know right now. I would like to say, "Yes I will be here till the power is pulled." But, it's getting harder and harder for me to really justify still paying monthly for stuff I don't use (Incarnate Trials).

No one pays attention to me, cause I listen to the voices in my head.

I'm reminded of Benedick from Much ado about nothing.

"When I said, I would die a bachelor, I did not think I should live till I were married."

When I said I would be here til the lights went out, I did not think I'd be able to do that for free.

Now that I can... I intend to remain ViP for as long as I can justify it. If for no other reason than to continue supporting a game that has given me nearly a decade of enjoyment. If at some point the perks start to fade and I have other finacial concerns, well.... I'll be here til the servers shut-down. Just might be as a Tier9 Premium though.

I'll be staying a VIP and while I sometimes step away from the game for short breaks to refresh myself I still plan on being here until forcibly removed .

I always thought that I would be here 'til the lights went out, but recently I've been struggling to feel that way. I've decided to wait until the promised solo/small team Incarnate path announcement to make my decision as to what I'll do.

I'll likely be a VIP untill the servers shut down. I just can't imagine myself not wanting access to everything, including Incarnate content.

Not only am I staying VIP, but I'm doing a special vid series on the game once Titan Weapons hits, stay tuned! ((Oh, and I will be enlisting some voice over talents once everything gets set and ready. Sound the ominous music.... Dun dun dun!))

It's still on for me. I have two VIP accounts, and plan to keep them both for the foreseeable future. I still like the game, and I am still pretty satisfied with the new stuff they've introduced recently (I really, really like some and some I can take or leave).

I tend to think of myself as an anomaly in the sense that MMOs are not my thing, but CoH managed to suck me in.* That means I'm not going to leave this game for another MMO unless another manages to include the key elements that drew me here. Given that I believe firmly that many of those elements were accidents by the original dev team, and because many of them were outright contrary to commonly accepted norms of game balance, I consider finding them elsewhere unlikely.

Therefore, when I leave CoH, it will likely be because I no longer enjoy CoH, not because I want to play something else. So far, though they sometimes manage to frustrate me, CoH's devs keep me happier than unhappy by a significant margin. So long as that remains true, and so long as I don't go broke, I'll stick around.

* I am aware that others have expressed that sentiment about this game, so I know I'm not alone.

I took a break for a few months to play another superhero MMO, and then came back here.
Since returning I've tried out a wheol bunch of new stuff like Task Forces and Incarnate Trials and really got into teaming and SG activities this time. (I used to solo a lot)

I can't say I'll never take a break again, but I'm pretty sure I'll keep coming back if I do. And while I play, I'll stay VIP. 50c per day is such good value for the entertainment I get.

vip so long as it is financially viable. realistically I could get by with prem,im tier 9 with 5 tokens to spare at the moment and incarnates are nice but i made it 6 years without them. but ultimately you get what you pay for, good content needs to be supported by the player community, and in general, good games need to be bought to keep being made. I still dont forgive gamers in general for not buying beyond good and evil, psychonauts and okami, we voted with our wallets, and a lot of the brown fps malaise is due to that, we asked for them, rather than bright, well written character driven games. The only way coh stays at the level it is is if people put their money where their mouth is and support it. otherwise it moves to "maintenance" mode, the dev team gets pared down to nothing and we watch the sand go down until ncsoft just decides to move on.

This game has always existed primarily on retention of a smallish but loyal core fanbase, if we go free, then the game dries up, content gets thinner and eventually its gone for free and vips alike.

pretty much, it would take something very extreme to cause me to up and leave this game

though I can drop to Premium and not really notice much change, I have Tier 9 opened up, but what's currently keeping me is Incarnate content, as imperfect as they may be, I still enjoy them.

I was here on day one, but I've left and come back a lot. I like many elements of the game...probably more than any other MMO. But the fact is that the devs, whether of their own accord or at the urging of their suited masters, can not stop chasing the WoW carrot. Raids, gear, forced grouping, lack of solo options...all these have, bit by bit, poisoned the game until it's really not what it could have been: A true alternative to the failed Diku/EQ clones that litter the MMO landscape. As it in now it's a "Hybrid" (Read; Schizophrenic) game where you can play how you want to a point, but eventually must enter the land of elitism, gear grinding, raiding etc. in order to progress.

And with an aging graphics and an archaic engine, it's not going to hold my attention over games with better graphics, more engaging gameplay and other new shinies. If I have to play something that desperately wants to grab the WoW crowd and cater to that type of play, I'll just play a game far, far away from here.

I was planning on staying VIP, i still love the game.
But the issue with veteran reward tokens, not getting my paragon points is really starting to annoy me, and might just make me end up not playing, i refuse to spend money in the store until they resolve this.

But should they fix it in a timely manner, i will stay VIP, and play on and off as my urge and inspiration hits me

I'll be here, and VIP all the way... my attention may occasionally wander, but my heart belongs to COH.

So yeah, til either the servers shut off, or Matt finally gets the restraining order against me...

I'll be a VIP as long as I can.

I DO, however, appreciate the fact that when money is tight I can unsubscribe for a while and still play the majority of the game for free. It's not that tight at the moment, but I can see situations arising where saving $30 a month (my account and my wife's) will be helpful.

I like the SSRs, and while I don't participate heavily in Incarnate content, I like that the option is there when I feel like running a trial.

The 400 (soon to be 550) PP a month is a nice addition as well, and the fact that I get a free rename every 2 months.

The VIP perks are enough to keep me subscribed, but I will probably bounce back and forth between VIP and Premium on occasion as my finances dictate.

Seven years, two VIP accounts (no breaks)....still loving this game and having more fun than I probably deserve. I will stay the course as is until CoH is no more.

The answer to your question for me is yes but I am dropping down to premium.
I don't feel the need to team or go on trials or chase after Incarnate power any more. I still like the game and the community and I will be lurking around the Forums, going out stalking and bossing my pets around occasionally.

Probably not.
