I hope they catch that *****

You are lower than scum if you resort to stealing from a handicapped person.

This story really got to me. Yes, there are worse things going on in the world right now, but this really got to me.

Here's the facebook group that is organizing to help Mike, at the very least just join it to up their numbers and make Mike feel better. http://www.facebook.com/SaveSuperman

that is just low.....there is a very warm place in hell for people who steal from the disabled....especially those that pretend to be your friend and end up stealing from you....that is lower than low imo......I really hope that he is able to recover everything that was stolen from him.....

I know this shouldnt be getting to me....but dang if im not pissed off.....

I do know in some countries you would get your hands lopped off for stealing.....

Gary the Thief will be caught in short order. My hope is that he still has the stolen items and hasn't sold them off.

Good luck Mike!

Ditto, and you'd have to assume that a nice PR move like a signed poster from the cast of the new Supes movie will be in the works for Mr Meyer.

...There is not enough contempt in this life or any other for someone as low as that.
Pitiful. I hope he gets caught and the stuff returned.

When they catch this "Gary" clown I hope he repeatedly falls to the ground while the Police try to help him up with their nightsticks.

I joined it, but look out for the troll that has taken up residence in that thread-named himself "Timothy James McVeigh". I just welcomed him to my eternally blocked list.

Speaking of trolls, I hope they nail Gary's hide to a wall. Makes me mad that someone still has the audacity to steal from someone else's collection while the owner is distracted...and is an adult! That's the sort of pettiness that I thought belonged only to teenaged girls in the seventies!

Humanity can produce true heroes, but we often forget that it produces truly despicable villains too. I hope Gary the Thief is robbed of his liberty.

Sucks that he got robbed, but suspicious people are suspicious... from what he says in the article I have to say that he is partially to blame for his situation, but still sucks that he got robbed and gary and his girlfriend are scum bags.

If you have a treasure you don't want to lose, then the best possible option is only tell trusted friends that you have it or better yet don't tell anyone. Telling other people just guarantees that someone will grab it because they are weak or evil. It is sad that it happened, but this is the world we live in.

The first step in being sane is to admit that you are insane.

We need to put up more "Look someone got robbed" threads, so we can hear everyone say "I hope they die" posts! \o/

I mean really, people get robbed every day.

There's a saying, I can't remember who said it though,

"Three people can keep a secret...if two of them are dead."

You did read the part about

has been on Social Security for a mental disability since age 23
right?

I grew up with a neighbor that sounds very similar to Gary. Alex has worked at the fast food restaurants for more than two decades, has been taught to live on his own, in a plain, no drama way. (Which I can assure you amazed all his neighbors) But he'd be terribly confused if someone with an ounce of cunning came along. Chances are he might mention something special without the ability to understand the consequences. So I can see this poor chap's predicament pretty well because of Alex.

I was once peripherally (very) involved in legal actions related to some people who did one of those predatory-lending sleazy bogus refinance scams and ripped a disabled guy off for $100k or so.

Well. I happened to find out about this, so I did the obvious thing:

I blogged about it.

With real names and everything for the perps. Who were unhappy and sent threatening legal notices. Well. Conveniently, I have a good relationship with my lawyer, so we politely asked them about any factual errors, and now the page has detailed corrections up at the top for the couple of numbers I got wrong... Which, indirectly, tells you that all the rest of it is right.

I am a big fan of naming names when people do sleazy stuff. Really, not much into vengeance as such, but I am a big fan of people living in the world they are creating.

If handicapped people are being robbed of large Superman collections every day, I really need to have that place pinpointed on a map so I can avoid it.

I said "people get robbed every day" not "handicapped people are being robbed of large Superman collections every day" that said, I'd be willing to bet, that yes, "hadicapped people get robbed everyday"

So, what I'm seeing is a post about something that happens every day, someone got robbed.

Yes, but this WAS a handicapped person getting his prized Superman stuff taken, and this IS the section of the boards for Comic and Hero Culture, so it's more notable in this context than the everyday robbery, which is why it probably affects the folks reading about it more than, say, the guy down the street getting his car stereo taken.
