So with the new lore pets...

I think Cimeroran's superior pet will be taking the place of my Warworks superior pet as my new Single Target killers. I mean at first I was very saddened that the Cimerorans had their chance to critical removed, but as I got them to T4 I kinda realized why.

They do stupid..stupid damage and having them crit I think would make the game explode *Grin*. For the Record I run with T4 Musculature for maximum damage.

Anyone else think that the Romans will give Warworks a good run for their money despite Warworks -Regen and Viki's chance for criticals?

It's quite possible the Cimeroran Lore Pets might end up being one of the "best" Lore Pet sets, depending on what your definition of "best" is.

But there are going to be plenty of people picking Lore Pets based more for how they fit their character concepts than for which one has the greatest DPS or somesuch. After all the main reason why the Devs gave us more Lore Pet choices wasn't because the original four sucked gamewise - it was because players wanted more selection over what kinds of pets they could pick from.

Cimerorans are a clear winner for single-target DPS. That said, they are pure lethal, the worst damage type to have (Vicky's melee attacks are half lethal, half energy, and the ranged Warworks attacks are all energy).

There are quite a few worthwhile choices when you consider the radial pets. Some characters are going to need survivability more than damage, after all. Storm elementals have the huge -30 tohit aura and decent AoE. The Longbow Cataphract can floor regen. Phantoms do good damage - they are close to Warworks based on pylon times - and the support pet has AB, which may be good for characters that have lots of mitigation and no/little healing. They also fly, so the support pet keeps up with you easier.

I've picked Elementals for my Lore pet on my en/en/fire Blaster, purely for concept. I have no idea how they compare to other pets. Not terribly bothered, unless sb informs me that they're horrifically weak or sth.

I'm sticking with Seers for concept reasons. I highly doubt I would ever pick a Lore pet for performance... the whole point of having all these new pets is so they can fit our concepts better.

taking different lore pets on every toon i do the itrials with.
my Bane has waroworks but will likely switch to arachnos for concept.
My widow has seers for concept as well.

the cimerorans will likely go to my broadsword/shield scrapper whenever i get around to that toon for similar reasons.

i took those ghost/spectre type pets mainly as the support one gives my sm/invul brute AB and theres nothing wrong with a brute having AB lol..better then the old def buff from idf...plus the other pet has fire sword circle ice sword circle and more ..not as flashing say the longbow boss but still nice

Hey all,

Glad to see you’re enjoying the new Lore pets! Black Scorpion and myself made an explicit effort to get the various Lore Pet sets fairly close to each other in terms of DPS – there shouldn’t be any one set that’s bounds better than the others. Along with ensuring that the new Lore pets were all competitive with the old sets and with each other, we also determined that the IDF pets were doing significantly less DPS than intended, and the damage and recharge of their powers were adjusted accordingly in i20.5. It’s great to hear that many of you are taking Arachnos, Phantoms, Spectres, and others for concept - that’s what we set out to enable!

Until next time,

...Well, my Dark sorcerer still has his Warworks pets. They're not consistent with his theme, but he loves Vicky so much he wont give her up.

Other folks will be branching out, tho

I know my empathy defender will love her Core path Cimeroran pets, being a sorceress I plan to play her as summoning the souls of fallen, ancient heroes, Ala Fate/Stay Night.
Why old world heroes? "Because old world heroes will listen to anyone as long as they have one more chance to shed blood."

My main scrapper will be summoning Storm Elementals, calling a favor from his in-laws.

My magical girl blaster will use northern lights, in her case she's just creating what are basically homing bits, ala Gundam SeeD, only magical.

Edit: As a random question: will we see more lore pets in the future? I can't help but think Syndicate and Resistance Lore pets would actually be kind of boss.

Edit edit: As would Tsoo lore pets. >.>

Any chance we could get Primal Earth Clockwork? Or perhaps CoT Demons? Or even, dare I say it, Devoured Earth pets?

I think most of us are fine with that, as long as none of them are terrible at damage. The ones that have heals, debuffs or lovely buffs of some sort more then make up for lack of over the top damage. I must say on my Crab spider for example, I like the Toxi T from the Arachnos Pets... I find the fortunata is a tad slow to act though. Might just be perception. Probably try the Toxi T plus Bane t3 before deciding which to T4.

I kept the Seers on my Magic Origin DP/Dark cor that did the Preatorian content though... I can always immagine some emo story about them being a ghostly wife and sister... in law? that come to help when he's in dire need.

Storms on the Dark/elec defender and The Phantoms naturaly fit on the Ill/storm Controller with perfect results.

Dev's... You guys/gals did splendily here.

Cheers!

Note: I don't know what to give my magic origin SS/Invuln brute though.... (shrug)

Still hoping someday we'll have the option of like.. a minion branch to each tree that's perma. Until I can have a pet that has consistent uptime and accessibility, I won't be bothering with lore.

Good news there is a whole AT made just for that!

I love the new Lore pets, so many more concepts are available now.

I do hope you continue to monitor the Lore pets performance. I know from experience the Warworks is bounds better at DPS than the Seers, although they may be the extremes and that may be the range you are looking for (the Warworks seem to be nearly twice as damaging as the Seers).

I also think some of the buff/debuff pets could use some tweaking as a few pets really seem to underperform in the buff/debuff area (and one plays very strong, IME).

Why Blasters? Empathy Sucks.
So, you want to be Mental?
What the hell? Let's buff defenders.

What'd be even cooler is if you could talk to Tunnel Rat's/David's group and get them to add an option to remove the 'ghosty essence' effect from the Lore Pets. My Arachnos Commander, for example, isn't using ghosty soul things; she's summoning extra troops in to fight. The annoying aura kinda gets in the way of that, though.

To be fair you're using the well's power to do so.

Yes I think you are missing the point of the whole "Lore" thing with the Well.

Would be pretty neat if there was a customizable option to do so (say, kind of like changing the colors on the Judgement or Destiny powers at a tailor).
For those of us who can very easily fit in using non-ghostly essences into our character concept, that would be awesome.

No he's not, he's just using a very well established aspect of lore: Calling for backup.
Technically the "being able to summon things with the power of the Well" is very new lore and loses out by lack of seniority.

I'm loving having the Carnies Lore pets as an option. My one disappointment is that all but one of the Carnie lore powers includes a Strongman and (for concept reasons) my toon wants female Carnies. The pretty much limits me to the Radial option...

Is there a way to fix that?

Yeah, but when can we rename them, like we can with the original run of Lore pets?

I'm fairly certain this is an oversight that got missed, and I'm not sure anyone pointed out, but I was really disappointed when I couldn't rename my phantoms.

I couldn't agree more.

To be fair, some people come up with THEIR OWN explanations of how their powers work.

While DPS being similar is a great thing for balance, you do lose one metric for them to stand out. The other possibility is the buff pet and those are mostly bland pallet swaps with them having a single target heal and an aoe heal. I think the only pet that should have that specific combo is the Immunes Surgeon while the other pets should have other powers that aren't necessarily a pallet swap of the same two heal abilities.

Hmm, I'm not sure myself, since my MM doesn't have any of the new lore pets, but I think the rename feature is something exclusive to MMs.

Even my Brute can't rename their Warworks for instance.
