What happened to The Circle of Thorns and Mu though I wonder?

I recall a couple of level mod/expansions for duke 3d from 2 separate *ahem* gentlemens magazines that were both in keeping with dukes theme and were very entertaining.
Really.

I think my favorite is Wretch.
i figured his costume was jsut torn rags at first but later i got a chance to look at it more closely and noticed to be detroyed Arachnos armour which really works with the characters origin.

The Surviving Eight costumes are pretty stand ard run of the mill hero stuff. nothing really stands out.

The Rogue Isles Patrons and their 2nds are villianous enough but dont really do much for me aside from Wretch and Black Scorpion. and BS's armour i like just for how different it is from anything else in the game.

The Classic Praetorians were about as bland as the Surviving Eights as most of them were jsut recolors i think.
the Redesigned Praetorians seem to achieve their goals for ambiguous evil/misguided good that is Going Rogue.

special mention: Helaquat (i think thats her name) an ancient goddess you have to take down in the Scirocco Patron arc somewhere. the fur boots and tribal flavour were brilliant. a lot of work went into her for her to only be in one or two different missions though.

The Cimeroran stuff is good too. The Cyclops, Minotaurs and historical versions of signature characters were definetly fun. i especially liked Daedalus' shield on his back and gladiator helm.

of the Surviving Eight i'd break it down like this:

Statesman: too entrenched in the advertising, but could go through a "Death of Superman Arc" type story arc.
Sister Psyche: Her Mindriding ability would make her Body easy to replace.
Manticore: his Vigilante tendancies could lead him to his end but then he's also the icon of Vigilantes.
Positron: 2 TFs, a Dev backing him and an armor redesign, he's going no where.
Numina: She's already dead, why not again.
Citadel: destroy him, and Citadel 3.0 can replace him, or maybe download into a Warwalker like Siege did.
Back Alley Brawler: Galaxy City is being destroyed so it does free up his spare time.
Synapse:He did get pwned in the CoV trailer rather easily ....

My Pick: Sister Psyche - she'll get nearly killed and will inhabit Malaise via Mindriding to dispense her TF.

one thing though.
in your uncommon salvage drop counts, did you take into account the drops from trial objectives and/or Master of objectives being completed?

note: i could be way off on that one but i've noticed i can get a LOT of uncommon salvage from those.

add me to the club Sam. I'd simply love for War MAce and Battle Axe to have two hand animations. the fact that they share the exact same animations with Broadsword still bothers me a little.

while i'm wishing for ponies i'd also love to see alternative animations in Stone melee so characters could go all Mallet or all stone hands for their attacks.

i havent looked ina while but if you're after staff melee, use nemesis staff on a rad emisison toon then toggle up Radiation infection and/or enervating field. it uses the mallet animations with the staff. or at least it used to.

taking different lore pets on every toon i do the itrials with.
my Bane has waroworks but will likely switch to arachnos for concept.
My widow has seers for concept as well.

the cimerorans will likely go to my broadsword/shield scrapper whenever i get around to that toon for similar reasons.

my enhancement tray only had one IO in it, which i had just retrieved from e-mail.
then i lost 2 or 3 in a row and gave up after that.

i still have a dozen or so plus 1/2 a billion inf in e-mail that i'm afraid to touch.

i'm surprised they gave Tanks Super reflexes and NOT Energy Aura.
looks like EA is gonna be WAY more Tanky.

e-mailed several crafted IO's to myself.
when i claimed them from the e-mail they just disappeared.
they were no longer attached to the e-mail and were not deposited into my enhancement tray.
i've lost 5+ enhancements doing this now.

anyone else experienced this?

gender discrimination for costume pieces is always annoying.

i know this much, i wont bother buying anymore paid expansions if they're just gonna keep giving them away to subscribers.

at first i was a bit miffed that my Widow who is well over soft cap defense was getting splattered left, right and center. repeatedly. seemingly without effort of the enemy.

then i remembered that these were +4 and that odds were the neutral point for the trial was designed with +3 level shifts in mind and 2-3 full teams of buffs. possibly more level shifts down the line as well.

still, the humbling experience also made me realize its not the usual buff up, debuff, ground and pound tactics of previous TF/SF/Trials and that you need to organize, work together and follow orders to get it done.

all in all i like it.

Dark/ice tanker that i recolored light blue and green/blue to be all about snow and ice.

Trap/Dark defender whose powers are blue/red so as to appear like beacons on a Police Car.

Dark Miasma in Pink always makes me giggle.
Pink and Fluffy. great combo.

its not the "one shoting" that bothers me. its the stacked ambushes that go WAY over aggro cap, that turn into insta-death for anyone nearby.

i've about had it with this new account authorization BS.
whenever i forget to pay my credit card and NCSoft gets a payment denial. maybe then they'll figure out that this was a bad idea.

Red side, 30s or 40s somewhere. it was a Blue CoT Behemoth with bone wings.

one on one i'd say Carnie bosses are the toughest on average. Mistress of illusion summoning all her pets can be difficult to deal with. the Dark ring mistress hits pretty hard if you dont have something to mitegate the psi and dark damage.

one vs group i'd saythe goldbrickers have a knack for taking down my toons with the resist debuff they hammer you with.

For myself i've found Anime and Manga to have a much more engaging storytelling style that is always evolving. as mentioned before there's usually only one creative mind behind the story and it will end. (see Maison Ikkoku) it may begin again in another incarnation or volume but that first story is complete in and of itself. (See Naruto and Naruto: Shippuden) conversely some series never seem to end but always continue to tell new stories despite what could be viewed as a limited topic for such (Hajime no Ippo is a personal favorite at 900+ issues) the topics are unlike anything in the west (look up "Iron Wok Jan" or "The Bartender" series for examples).

on the flip side in the West you have the same old titles that never end, the same old characters that never change (except for an attempt at a media bump), have been written by WAY too many people with conflicting visions and drawn by folks that want to redesign things to their sensibilities. Don't get me wrong. some of those comics i still love but i despise the fact that they answer to corporate boards and cave to fanboy demands instead of sticking to their stories (sorry folks, Hal Jordan should have stayed dead and never come back in any way, shape or form).

although there are exceptions to that in the west.
Invincible, The Walking Dead, Strangers in Paradise, Preacher, The Sandman, Transmetropolitan and others (usually at Vertigo or independant).
just as there's exceptions in the east.
Ranma 1/2, Dragonball, Gundam, etc.

and engaging the brain has nothing to do with it. convience does. i can put on a show or movie at work and home and do other things while i listen to it and watch the odd scene. i cant do that with a book. a book i have to dedicate specific time to. i cant multitask with it. After watching the documentary "It might get Loud" with my father the other day i'd realized that after several dozen views i'd never actually watched the film start to finish, but i knew every song and story from it. i just liked listening to Jack White, The Edge and Jimmy Page, talk and play guitar.

leveling my toons from 1-20 wont change. i usually respec them into fitness at 22.
my current toons will likely pickup recall friend, stealth, fly or the leadership pool minus vengance.
it depends on the toon really. a lot of my tanks, brutes and scrappers that didnt have tough and weave will be picking it up.
and yeah a lot of fiddling with mids too.
