So with the first day of steampunk sales over...
I get the opposite feeling re the beast pack; I see very few people using it. Also, this is the only pack where they stuck NPCs wearing the pieces in Pocket D, as if to say "Look....!"
I'm on Guardian and we have a well-known Tank on the server who has Tiger heads [his toon looks very nice too]. He is the only one I can remember seeing regularly wearing pieces from this pack! Sad. Also play on Virtue and dont see it much over there, even. |

I've seen quite a few - but mostly just the cat heads - there are a few wolves and birds around too, but bulls are very rare

I think part of the problem is that... well... faces are kind of defining. I wouldn't be too inclined to change a character's head - even a beast-like character like my "Russian Blue" - just because the heads are there now. I may use it in a new alt, but not an existing build.
... and the endgame content released since the animal pack came out doesn't really encourage new alts.
Still here, even after all this time!

I had a couple of characters that were supposed to be wolf-like or dog-like from the beginning, using the most wolf-like of the older beast heads. Those got proper wolf heads and tails. And I created a new minotaur character. But that's been it, other than a leopard-print dress here and there.

Ok its a silly red name post but it's still a red name post.
That means I'm entitled to a complete over analyzing of its contents.
Let's put down some numbers here. Let's assume that the game currently has 15,000 active subscribers that works out to 225,000 USD per month Assuming they did sell roughly 9000 steam punk boosters On the first day they made an extra $90,000. So for this month it's almost like they had an another 6000 subscribers.
Assuming NCSoft gets about half that. It begs the question "How is that extra $40,000 is being used to improve City of Heros?"
I can tell from the rest of your post you don't really believe this, but I think it's important to call attention to the fact that all that money went to access to the game. The only thing the $15 per month gets someone is the right to log in.

Anyway, Steampunk pack didn't offer much I liked so I passed on it. They charge too much for the boosters and I stopped getting them; I also think the last bunch have lacked and were of poor quality (especially the martial arts one with the warrior pads etc).

Whats worse is that he treats them like marionettes.

I even bought the Party Pack when it was on sale once, because my female alts wanted the dance emotes. that said, I am enjoying the Steampunk pack a lot and am looking forward to whatever we get next. |
Well, I know I got it.
Then again, despite paying for it, I still haven't received it, and it's been a while now...
My issue with the Beast Pack was the over-definitive look of the heads (when compared to the slew of less detailed head and face options (heck, most of the costume pieces) already in game).
Even if they were somehow able to make it work... I just couldn't see a hat on the Bull head working aesthetically... the level of detail/art 'style' wouldn't quite match up. Too rigid of a pack.
That and they didn't allow for the meld of those type of options in the first place; no beast heads with goggles, hats, hoods or face paints.
[Finally, little use of the pack options by NPCs (no Island of the Cat People or an actual Wolf's Den Pub mission) ]
Apparently, I play "City of Shakespeare"

What I would like to see is the trend of Booster sales. How many do they sell in the first day? What are sales in the first week? Then the first month, then the next 6 months?
Is there a point in the life of a booster that the sales diminish to a negligible amount? If that's the case, wouldn't it be better to offer an alternate method of unlocking said booster(s) without the need for money?
Doing so would serve many purposes. It would be good advertising. Furthermore, it's new "free" content would help retain subscribers, just like the "free" issues have retained subscribers.
ps: In response to somebody's earlier estimate on active subscribers; It's estimated that CoH has around 120k active subscriptions, possibly more since the last data I saw was pre-GR.

He's quite cute, in a bull-with-an-axe-the-same-size-as-he-is-and-can-cut-you-in-half kind of way.
Over the past month or so, I purchased all the content for CoX before they went on sale. Oh well. More for the company I care for.
I have a bull, on Virtue. The Micro-taur. Because every possible variation of "Mini-taur" that I could think of was taken.

His name's Anu. He's a shield tank.
I also gave both Mister Mistoffolees and Mister Bibbles (my two "sorcerer's familiars using purloined magic to look human" cat-boys) animated cat tails when the pack came out. That alone was worth the price to me. Our first set of cat tails were just awful.

Not that I don't agree that a lot of energy has gone into more packs and quite a bit less energy has gone into providing new free costume stuff... but if all of it were free, I think we'd probably just be getting around to the science pack about now, with the martial arts and mutant packs somewhere on the distant horizon.
