Have they release the ability to change powersets with an existing character?
-
Your CIT and ParagonWiki page are curious things to me. I've been a passive player for far too long. There's so many things I don't know about.
-
Just a simple thanks to the devs and the community.
Best wishes to all!
-
Quite honestly, these are all very well done!

Over the past month or so, I purchased all the content for CoX before they went on sale. Oh well. More for the company I care for.
-
Thanks for all the suggestions and for the warm welcome back!
-
Imagine that I'm re-learning from scratch. What should I do? What would be good resources to go by? What additional items, programs and material should I be looking for? What outside sites and 3rd party programs should I look at? Which ones should I avoid?
In short, I'm thrusting myself back in to CoX. There were many aspects of CoX that I never really explored. Rather than go slowly back over everything, I was wondering if there were some good & handy guides (yeah, I know about the new in-game help thingy). I'm looking more for stuff that I can peruse online during breaks.
Basic combat and movement, I get. I have some impressive and not-so-impressive builds. One of which, though the build is cool the alt would no longer be using claws. I'd have to "re-roll" him completely. :/ Ah well.
I appreciate your guidance in advance. -
I should be able to play merely by thinking about it - wherever I am.
I shouldn't need an interface other than my thoughts.
I should be able to replace my dreams with this.
XP can be traded in for RL money. -
I've posted this in another thread. I'm reposting it here for your viewing:
This may have already been said:
- Ideally, one could simply use the new client if they wanted to and still have access to the "old" servers (which would be updated). Servers would be able to handle requests from either the "classic" client or the new (CoX2) client (I understand that this would significantly add to development time because of having to support and test two separate clients).
- If the above is not possible, allow character transitions from CoX to CoX2 if players want them. Some may wish to stay on the "old" servers for a variety of reasons (Their hardware, personal/group relationships, etc.).
- Update the graphics (more similar to DCUO than CO)
- Update the game while allowing the core of the game to be relatively unchanged. Don't go the route of CO or DCUO when it comes to how to play.
- More destructable objects
- Allow for more seamless/familiar mission architect modules/storylines
- - - Allow for paid storyline content by author (revenue sharing)
- - - Dress it up a bit so that it seems more like you're walking into a comic book store and picking a book off the shelves.
- - - Allow players to play as key characters in theses isolated story arcs. Let them "live" CoH's history.
- Allow for more accessible and publicized weekly and monthly events. Use incentives via badge or otherwise for these events.
- Integrate youtube and screenshot saves with the forum/social media so that players can share their adventures more easily. A set space amount would be given with more space available at a cost.
- Solidify achievements/badges/etc. so they are part of the forums/character profile. Make sure the achievements can be hidden/shown based on player and alt.
- Allow for SG/Forum integration based on server then group. Again, allow for integration so that SG events can be generated on the forum and posted both in game and on forum.
- Allow for SG/VG clashes - Publicize these and if possible make them so that they can simply be watched by people (spectator mode)
- Allow for Hero/Villain challenges (PvP) to be point and achievement based, also allowing for spectator mode. Make sure these achievements are linked to the forum for recognition/promotion.
- Allow spectator mode to be streamed to mobile devices
- Allow some mission editor features to be worked on with mobile devices
- Market and merchandise as much as possible - more so than in the past.
- A F2P element could be in the works. I'm not going to go into that. Implementations and suggestions would be largely based on their approach.
- Allow for storylines to have an overview - allowing the player to decide if they want to go that route or not. Again, similar to going to a comic book store and leafing through an issue or two. This would allow for the player to "buy in" to the storyline more.
Some of this is already somewhat available. I'm looking to have these things more connected. Allow for people who have CoH on their mind when their away from their home computer to connect and interact in some way, shape or form. Allow them to be more involved so that they are thinking about it more. Help drive the desire.
That's all for now. These are just random improvement thoughts off the top of my head. I've played this, CO and DCUO. I'm still here and purchased all the stuff that's come out for CoX. I wish Paragon nothing but the best.
It's late and I'm fading.

Quote:I mentioned in another thread that ideally, the servers would be upgraded to handle either client. The population would remain the same. The power sets would remain the same but could continue to be expanded upon. Core gameplay would not change. New areas/missions would be possible by expanding upon the current tools. New interfaces could still be implemented. Why not gameplay changes? Look at CO & DCUO. Both tried new aspects and frankly neither work exceptionally well. CO is "fine", but it's different enough than the original. Core CoX players who haven't tried it may shun significant gameplay changes. The original still offers the best gameplay available.This. I don't think people automatically move onto CoH 2. Maybe a large part of the game's population does, but even if 25% stay, that's a pretty decent amount of players from your own base that aren't going to your new game. I would rather see CoH built upon and improved versus just starting something new. Anybody who says they need to start over to do "x" just needs to be reminded how closed issue somethings like power customization was and yet we have it.

Pardon my ignorance here. I've basically been on sabbatical for a while. ... What's "Mids"?
Never mind. Found it: http://www.cohplanner.com/ -
Quote:I asked if it has been discussed and then added to the discussion by musing about possibilities. I'm not asking for anything else.So you want them to write an entirely new version of the game for tablets and then be stuck providing support and patches to three different clients? I truly hope that the devs never waste that kind of time and money on a tablet client.
Also, I laugh at the prospect of getting City of Heroes to run on the cpus and gpus that are inside tablets. CoH runs like a pig on my quad core desktop never mind a poxy tablet.
Finally, on a slightly elitist note, I'd rather keep CoH out of the hands of tablet 'gamers'. -
Quote:It all depends. There are plenty of apps that run rather well on it. Am I talking ultra mode? No. Am I talking about something written specifically for the iPad 2? Yes. The original iPad was able to run "Dreamcast" graphics on it. The iPad 2 is more powerful. The short of this is really simple: Opening up CoX to more people. This might be better suited if there was a F2P version, but that's another story. Please keep in mind that I'm not solely championing Apple here. It's just more likely that the iPad would be supported due to less hardware variables as compared to an Android based tablet (all over the map). Now, what could work? The iPad is roughly as powerful as a netbook, right? CoH would probably run at two frames per... minute, if even that.

I came to City of Heroes in June of 2004. I had heard about it in development, but a griefer-laden soured departure from Ultima Online left me doubting that people could behave themselves playing another MMO. Shortly after the release of CoH, two life-long friends of mine told me I had to see this game and was incredulous that I wasn't in on it from the get-go. Doubtingly, I watched, fell in love and subbed within a few days. Since then, I've been an on and off player due more to my Gaming ADD than anything else.
Since 2004, comic book media has been growing. Past the monthly comics, books and movies have become more and more prevalent. I know the general background of these stories well. I've been reading comics for years and years. For most DC, Marvel and many Indie characters, I have a decent enough idea of their background and the world they're in. While I haven't been as up-to-date as I was in the past, good storylines tend to find their way to me eventually. Herein lies the reason for this post. Though I've played CoH on and off through 2004 and have had a passive interest in the fiction that makes up the world we play in, I don't have as good of an understanding of the mythology of Paragon City and its "sisters" as I should. I've talked before about reading up on "everything", but never really got past an hour or so into it.
Bearing this in mind, is the game's website the best place to start to get caught up in the mythology behind CoX or is there someplace better? Over the past two or so years, I've left my subscription mainly to play a number of "backlog" games I have. I've made some progress there, but CoH always comes calling. Here I am again and I'm wishing I had as much knowledge of CoH's history as I do of the characters and worlds of DC, Marvel and the like.
For what it's worth, I'm currently playing solo through the Going Rogue storyline (from Pratorian to Resistance) and truly enjoy it. I'm roughly level 16 (haven't played in a while, so I don't exactly remember). My highest level alt is I believe 38 or so (serious alt-itis and gaming ADD played well into this). I know there's good times to come.
Best Wishes, everyone. -
Aside from many of the suggestions already listed:
Revamped atmospheric/environmental effects. Sounds frivolous, but.. -
I've been fighting the upgrade bug. I have a 4850 and frankly, there's [u]no[u] reason to upgrade for at least another year. In so many ways, I'd love to. There's a number of questions out there regarding the next gen of GPUs and how well current GPUs utilize Dx11. Only time will tell. So, I wait.

Exactly what I was hoping for! Now.. The Forums? ....

Very NICE!
At some point in my life, I had some talent. It's completely rusty now though. None of my art work shows it. It looks ... terrible. Maybe this is the inspiration needed to get it up to snuff again. ::shrug:: -

I'm running a 4870 here and just standing around, with no AA or AF on (and all in-game settings set to the "standard" ATI values - e.g. no DoF or bloom, no desaturation, etc), I'm getting about 15 FPS standing around in Skyway City. This is on Vista x64. I've been messing with it for a few days now - there's nothing enabled in CCC; it's set to "Balanced" on the default visual settings for 3D. I actually even have the card overclocked like hell. It destroys Crysis and murders basically everything else I've thrown at it, but CoH barely even runs. Other OpenGL apps like Enemy Territory: Quake Wars and a bunch of open-source stuff all run fine. Beautifully, even. Tabula Rasa runs great too. Guess I'll go play that.

Did you add the multi-core processor switch? -

What I am just furious about is the secrecy about the future of the game. WHY does it have to be such a secret. You have all these big plans for the game and are working on them already. So why can't we know what they are? We are paying our monthly fee so that the game can be updated for our enjoyment. I think that we deserve the right to know what the plans for the game are. There is no real reason to keep everything a secret for so long.

"Furious"!? Why must you be "furious" over the future? You "deserve" to play what's available now with your monthly fee.
Stop yourself for a moment and think about what you're saying.
Enjoy it now. Play it now. Do what you can with it now. Let them worry about the future. For you, all that's at stake is a $15 or lower monthly fee. For them, the stakes are MUCH higher.
