Discussion: Changes to this week's Weekly Strike Target

Remember that in fairly quick succession we have had i19, i19.5, and now i20. Problems, yes. But we have had some very rapid and major changes to the game in the past six months so it is not unexpected.

Maybe beta testing should have found some of the stuff but as a computer geek I know things work just fine in test then you implement and boom!

Lets hope once they get i20 stable they hold off a bit on i20.5 and i21. People want the new trials but I think a new round of bugs that go with them will not go over well until things have cooled off a bit .

You've hit the nail on the head there Flower!

I for one would be for a moritorium on new releases until ALL current bugs are ironed out, and the Devs "to do list" of old bugs is cleared as well. Followed of course by a prolonged test server try out of new releases. Then of course, new bugs wouldn't have such an effect as they have recently.

Maybe they could pre-empt future "shellackings" (quote:sic Barack Obama) by including the following text in new subscription game downloads "Comes with bugs, and a free lifetime supply of lag and mapserver disco's!"

But then again, its not my reputation that is going to suffer - Im a grumpy old git all of the time ;-)

Get away from that computer once in a while!

Opinions are like bottoms, we all have one, and they usually stink.

Peace.

Come on... Playing this game is like having a job to dig a hole?
You might want to find a more fun pastime, mate.

I'm pretty pissed about not getting my NOTW from the fun SF this week and being told to do one that I rather can't stand instead. That being said, a Winter event would mollify me quite nicely...wouldn't mind getting a few more candy canes and the goodies they buy.

I'm pretty upset about not getting the NOTW. I'm not going to rant and rave about quitting but it is a big annoyance. I'm sure there are alot of people like myself that don't have time to play for several hours every single day to get the good rewards so when I spend an hour or more doing a TF to get something I need for an accolade or whatever I expect it to work seamlessly. I can only play a few times a week so even though I had fun it now makes me have to run another TF to get a reward that I should have been given already... that takes away from my time to do other things in the game.

I agree with the other person that said just reward everyone an NOTW and call it even.

It is fixed in the forum, but not the News archive item for April 12th on the main site.
You might want to get it corrected there also, to head off any further confusion and avoidable griping.

1)
The time the updates are being deployed is annoying for the Oceanic regions as well as its 9pm-11pm our time.
That being said no matter WHAT time the update is deployed SOMEONE SOMEWHERE will have their play time disrupted.

Im sure if it was moved 3 hrs later to midnight (+10 GMT) it would affect someone else just as much.

The downtime has to affect the LEAST number of players - this means the US.
The rest of us just have to accept and get over it.

2)
Personally (1 small vote) I would LOVE for the devs to FIX certain major issues before adding new content:
Lag - seriously trying to stop the Prisoners from escaping is so bad for me that I now dont play any Melee toons on the BAF. My powers often take 3-4 seconds to activate by which time some of the prisoners have run past. Even moving can be a problem.
I have a 14.5Mbps Internet connection (ADSL2+) running on a pc that can handle Ultra Mode (i5 2500K - 8GB DDR3 - GTX460 SOC). I have turned my graphics to "medium" and STILL lag.
Potential Fix: change the layout so instead of having the 5? doors spread out add a pentagon (5-sided) shaped building with doors on all sides and the prisoners escaping from there. To avoid allowing group1 on door1 affecting doors2 and 5 (adjacent doors) add 50' long (guess?) walls between the sides.

Dropouts - Ive never suffered from a Drop-out or Mapserv but from what Im hearing is a major problem.

There is a time for new content and people have been waiting for the eagerly anticipated Incarnate stuff for a while but it is now time for stability.
If the game becomes unplayable then new content wont matter.

What? You want a reach-around or something too?

[quote]As suggested in an earlier post by broomhilda, maybe some of the Devs/Quality team should listen in to the chat channels.[/qipte]

I'd rather they didn't waste time with that and spent some time finding and killing the bugs with extreme prejudice.

And because you're having this problem and hundreds (or thousands) aren't, the problem MUST be the dev's code.

Uh huh.

I love statements like this, really I do. It's like you paid for it and that means that your system should be able to handle it. Even if it's way under spec'd or has a few thousands viruses on it. And somehow that's the developers fault.

When I first bought CoH some, what 7 years ago now, I though I had suficient system to play the game... Found out that was a big nope, had an upgraded system, not super high end by those standard, but enough over the recommend spec to play.

Now all this time later and 2 upgrades to the games graphic engine even if I set the graphic detail to the bare minimum I might get 1fps on that old dog (yes it still runs)

I might suggest that you look at what hardware you have in your system. compair it to the minimum, and the recommend, turn your graphic detail all the way down and try again. You may even find that you have a hardware problem that doesn't crop up till you go into pretoria that has texture file's and other stuff larger than the older parts of the game

*edit: Dior, I'm not picking on you specifically

I'm sure it's gonna piss off some people, but right now I feel like thanking the devs for cancelling today's maintenance. It may not be another winter event (which is good since I for one didn't want one) but it shows that sometimes voices are heard, and even if it's a small gesture, it's still one that matters. Also I think more people are gonna appreciate more plain playtime rather than some random event they don't care about on less playtime. I know I do.

So, to Avatea and any other redname who may read this, thank you.

can we, for the love of Statesman's grave, please have something other than The Crystal of Serafina (Ice Mistral SF) as a villain WST? The month of April it the WST twice. NOW it is the WST twice for May! What the hell? You guys did the same thing in December 2011 and January 2012 when Ice Mistral was on twice each of those months.

How about Mortimer Kal? How about Barracuda? How about ANYTHING but Ice Mistral's!!!

I know there is not as many Strike Forces as there are Task Forces, but we have enough not to run Ice Mistral constantly. Give The Beast Beneath the Mountains (Virgil Tarikoss SF) and Pirates of the Skies (Silver Mantis SF) were last used as WST in August 2011. What about them once in a while?

Wow, thanks for the change. That was quite fast. I'll have to use "for the love of Statesman's grave" line more often.

For the love of Statesman's grave, can we get....

For the love of Statesman's grave, can we not have Terra Volta ever month as a TF and instead once in a while get a Posi TF, or a Sister Psy (both last seen as a WST in August) or a maybe a Citadel TF (never has been a WST as far as I can tell).

There are plenty of TFs to choose from, let's actually take advantage of that instead of repeating the most boring thing possible (treading neutrons inside a reactor for 5-20 minutes while waiting for something to happen) every single month.

Of course, we get Terra Volta again for the first WST of June. The Blue Side respec is just plain boring.

And the Lady Grey was last included as a WST in August 2011.

I'm guessing that there must be some kind of bug or technical issue to explain why we keep getting the same TFs and others that should be included keep getting skipped. I'm guessing that some of the issues that were discussed in the early part of this thread haven't been fixed yet. Is that a good guess?

Lady Grey doesn't get run very often, but it is a good one.

Well the fact that Penny Yin TF is the week of the 12th confirms I23 going live the 5th or 6th

Which means this week is likely to be the last time to run Statesman's Task Force before the mantle goes to someone else. Hurray for I23, but it's sad to see the fellow go.

After almost a year, the Lady Grey TF finally makes a re-appearance on the WST list in August! (I happen to like that TF, and it is hard to get a team to do it.)
