If you can change three things about this game...
I love this game tremendously, and expect to be playing Amerikatt until the servers close sometime in 2036, but 3 things I would change are:
1. Add fully poseable and customizable cat and kitten models;
2. Extend the Invention System badges/accolade so that they need only be completed on one character in order to be unlocked for all characters on an account (such as is possible with some Mission Architect badges); and
3. Add a Recipe Storage Rack/Table to the base item menu, since some of us like to craft our recipes for personal use rather than sell them for ebil profits, but they often come so fast and furiously that we are overwhelmed.

1. Put all unlockable costume pieces in the character creator for all players.
2. Introduce an Archetype that has access to some balanced combination of ranged attacks, melee attacks and personal protection, as well as one that has access to henchmen summoning and melee.
3. Fix all the ugly mistakes of writing and straighten up the game's plot so it makes sense.

Three things... hmmm.
1. Plots and writing. Have some story arcs that just deal with one group, 10 levels or so worth, have others stretch farther out, have some run 1-50 going through various groups (with different possible outcomes based on your choices,) fix all the spelling and grammar mistakes, and have them change - some disappearing and being replaced, some just getting updated.
2. Update graphics - bring everything to the same quality, so that something looks gritty because it's supposed to, get the various costume bits to the same quality, update character models (FINGERS! I WANT FINGERS! And expressions) and the like.
3. Make sure all sub-systems in this game (by which I mean inventions, AE, PVP and bases, mostly) have people dedicated to them so they don't just gather dust. Inventions could use some new sets, swapping out some older, less-well-thought-out sets (say to a vendor,) for instance. The other three have been covered time and time again.
1. Produce a Blender plugin for COH models with rig and hold costume piece design contests
2. Power/Weapon customisation across all powers including temp/inherent
3. Improved Pet/NPC AI (Ability to order "stand and fire")
Sorry I can't stop there
4. Randomized maps for tip/paper missions (and a map builder that is SANE)
5. Random destructible items in all maps (for variety and ambiance)
6. SANE positioning/shape of glowies across all missions
Ok I can stop there
1. Give detectives cellphones, and have them give them to heroes as soon as you talk to them. None of this silliness of having to cross town to talk to a detective because there's a bank robbery in progress RIGHT NOW! and you need to deal with it, but he wants to check out your costume before you handle it.
2. Eliminate blue caves. Replace them with something that isn't designed to annoy and frustrate players by blocking their view, impeding their movement, and significantly enhancing the possibility that enemies will become trapped in the geometry.
3. Merge all the different types of currency down into influence. Influence, infamy, prestige, merits, vanguard merits, blah, blah blah. Make it all inf. Establish an initial exchange rate, and convert it all. Done. The market currently treats influence = infamy = influence, so we could just assume that it's the same. Now just get rid of all this other crap floating around and we'll be good. Simplify, simplify, simplify.

1. Make it possible for ALL members of the team to read the mission information and conversations with NPC's
2. Trains/Portals to ALL locations
That's all I have for now.
Re-do all the NPC/Citizen models. I'm embarrassed that anyone comes into this game and their first impression is to get shoved aside at Miss Liberty by a square headed civilian who looks as though they were carved from wood and crudely painted. I'll include the cars into that since they're effectively just car-shaped NPCs, wandering on their set paths and unaffected by the characters.
Tighten up older arcs/missions/TFs to avoid all the running around Blue-side and street hunts; eliminate mandatory tutorial 'missions' ("Go talk to the Bloody Bay rep!").
Change the mission map layout to allow for maps that have exterior windows, more realistic layouts, etc so you feel as though you're in an actual office and not a reskinned maze of twisty little passages, all alike.
1. Power Customization for Pool powers. I an many others hate the hasten animation.
2. All NPC costume options for players. I love the Tsoo sorcerer costumes.
3. Height slider to go to 10'. I would like to be bigger than the NPCs I fight.
I also can't stop at 3.
4. More weapons and animation for powers. This game thrives on aesthetics, more really is better.
5. I would like weather effects. Just for looks, and I would like those who don't want them to be able to disable them.
6. Fingers. I would like claws that come from the fingers, and other things fingers would entail.
Really all of what I want is more of what we already have.

My Portfolio
1. I would like to see the whole world opened up to Villains and Heroes. In comics they don't live in separate worlds, but interact in the settings. There should also be contacts for both in every zone where you see the story from both sides though I think they should avoid open world PvP. That just invites too much ganking.
2. I would also like to see the Shadow Shard redone and take the overly long Task Forces and break them up into story arcs. Here again this should be open to both sides, but not co-op. There is more than enough story here to show it from both sides.
3. Add player housing that is not an individual super group base and make buying it use Inf., not some new currency.
1. Character models overhaul... New upgraded models with animated faces, fingers, hair... New textures choices for skin separated from tops, muscular slides for females, upgrade of older pieces, asymmetric options...
2. APP/PPP, Power pools and HEAT/VEAT customization/revamp.
3. Revamp of the older content. Remove all the old low-res NPCs, citizens and contacts, and change them for new models using the current character creator. Also, re-write old stories from blue side and make the arcs more coherent. Minor updates for the old textures to give blue side an better, hi-res look.
My dreamlist.
1. Base rent - Change base rent so it is due on the same day each month -- like any standard rental agreement in the real world -- instead of how it is now, where, if someone in the group pays the rent early, the next rent payment is due in less than a month. The current "base rent due date" system smacks of old-school MMOs, designed to rip off in-game resources from players in order to make them play longer. Newer developments in CoH have improved upon such old-school conventions; but, the base rent due date is an unwelcome carry-over and should be corrected.
2. More Mission Computer activities - The Cathedral of Pain trial can be run from a Mission Computer in a supergroup base; but, hero-side, this is the only activity available via the Mission Computer. Clearly, this system has room for expansion. Add more fun activities to the Mission Computer for supergroups to do (allowing teammates from outside the supergroup, like the CoP does).
3. Tab key - Pressing the Tab key targets the next furthest opponent. To my frustration, this often results in me targeting an idle mob in a different group on the edge of my screen when what I really want to do is to target the next nearest opponent who is clubbing me in the face. Pressing the Ctrl and Tab keys simultaneously targets the next nearest opponent (if I recall correctly). But, with my right hand controlling the mouse and my left hand on the keyboard controlling movement via Q, W, E and other keys, it's not easy for me to press Ctrl-Tab during combat, not without looking away from the screen to the keyboard. I imagine there is a way I could reprogram the Tab key to target the next nearest target; but, I really don't want to have to do so. I'd much prefer the standard Tab function targets the next nearest opponent.
And one more:
4. Epic Power Customization - I'd like to be able to change the color of powers from epic power pools.
1. Review all EB/AV fights in the standard missions and update any (i.e. most of them) to make them properly climactic. Far too many of them are just liberally sprinkled in for no good reason. "I need you to get something for me. Oh, by the way, Silver Mantis will be there and you'll need to defeat her. Good luck with that." If the story is too short to make the encounter properly climactic, replace the EB/AV with something more reasonable.
2. Update the original civilian NPC models. They're badly outdated.
3. Provide soloable methods of unlocking costume pieces that are currently only unlocked through team-only content.
If you can change three things about this game, what would they be?
I can't say anything yet because I've been playing for only a week so far. But I am very interested with the incoming responses. |
2. The addition of a "neckpiece" category to the costume creator, with all neck-style stuff removed from the "shoulders" category and put in there. Also add many new interesting pieces for the neck.
3. Articulated, beautiful hands and fingers. The oven mitts are stupid-looking, not to mention graphically they might as well be from the freaking Stone Age.
1) Propeller beanies
2) Monkey Mastermind
3) Breast animation
1. Fix all the bugs related to settings not sticking, large market fee, delete salvage pop up.
2. Repeal i13 pvp changes, keeping second build and ability to have differential power affects between zones.
3. And my selfish one is to change the energy transfer animation back.
3. Tab key - Pressing the Tab key targets the next furthest opponent. To my frustration, this often results in me targeting an idle mob in a different group on the edge of my screen when what I really want to do is to target the next nearest opponent who is clubbing me in the face. Pressing the Ctrl and Tab keys simultaneously targets the next nearest opponent (if I recall correctly). goes on every toon I make before they take even one step. Not as wonderful as a rebound Tab key, but close enough.

I'm not even going to try to be realistic in terms of dev time required (especially for number 2) My top 3 wishlist:
1. 1-40 Blueside rewrite, modelled on CoV. Shorter, more coherent arcs from contacts with actual personalities.
2. Zone revamps, and lots of them. Not just 'hey let's put some actual content in the hazard zones' type revamps, but have a dynamically changing world that reflects the progression of the story. Kings Row got devastated in the Praetorian attacks? Let's see the aftermath in the actual zone, and put in some missions for lowbie heroes to seek out Praetorian infiltrators, or deal with the Clockwork hindering reconstruction efforts, or the Skulls capturing a portal device and crossing the dimensions to snatch purses in Nova Praetoria (alright, maybe not that one...)
Personally I think Cole should have targetted Peregrine Island first, home of Portal Corp, but I'll readily admit that that's only because I hate PI. Such a bland, illogical place with it's Rikti on the beach and Behemoths in the parking lot.
None of the old stuff would be lost. Ouroborous is pretty much tailor made for keeping old and obsolete content in circulation.
3. Soloable TFs, with EBs instead of AVs for those who want them. Nerf the merit rewards into the ground for them if you like, just let me run them at my own pace and with a decent chance to experience the story.
1. Revamp the blueside content to the same quality as the Praetorian arcs. Why? Praetoria proves that early game content CAN be epic!
2. Upgrade older models as some people said already.
3. Revamp the Shadow Shard (Missions and TF's, the zones themselves I don't think need to be revamped and neither do the Soldiers of Rularuu, Reflections or Lanaru.)
to TO THE END!
Villains are those who dedicate their lives to causing mayhem. Villians are people from the planet Villia!

hmm three things I would change about the game...
Dim Shift... have it summon 2-3 singularities similiar to illusion's phantom army. This improves gravity's control and provides a nice mixed control set that is inbetween the total control of mind/earth and the less control/more pet oriented illusion control.
New NPC villian groups that are not techy robots using guns, or magical in nature. Its funny but the low level groups that heroes fight FEEL more like super powered threats then the later groups. Outcasts a gang full of rogue mutants. Hellions that make pacts with demons and actually date women from hell. Vahzilok zombies.. ie zombies/reanimated heroes done freakin awesomely. I mean how freaking awesome are those groups and how quickly they die out. The low level game just moves so fast now that these guys are just gone far too quickly and the mid/late game mobs are just hanging around for far too long.
New AT.. either an armor/assault or assault/armor AT so that characters like ironman are fesible to create. Personally I would go armor/assault as the armor would be more about how the secondary is generated. Khledians don't really cut it though PB's do come fairly close.
