What I think of this game so far...
First off, welcome to the game and to the forums! My favorite part about this game is the people. People in game and on the forums are generally very friendly and helpful. If you ever have questions, this is the place to go.
glad to hear it, welcome aboard, if you have any questions (some stuff is not the best explained) post em up, we enjoy helping if we can.
CoH is my first and only MMO, so I suppose I am pretty spoiled. Consequently, if you ever find yourself on the Freedom server in need of a team, feel free to hit me up, @Guardian Irish-Fury.

you left out a very important part: FUNNY, not only are the folks here great, but most of the idle banter during missions keeps me half crying with laughter (ok, so i'm a laugher at heart).
so, helpful, friendly, and a good sense of humor........ of course this is the best community.
Oh yeah, that was the time that girl got her whatchamacallit stuck in that guys dooblickitz and then what his name did that thing with the lizards and it cleared right up.
screw your joke, i want "FREEM"

What has kept me here for seven years? The people. Certain ones.
You know who you are.
There are no words for what this community, and the friends I have made here mean to me. Please know that I care for all of you, yes, even you. If you Twitter, I'm MrThan. If you're Unleashed, I'm dumps. I'll try and get registered on the Titan Forums as well. Peace, and thanks for the best nine years anyone could ever ask for.
People will also respond to you when you enter a "how do I do this" or "where's this" message in broadcast, and the answer is unlikely to be "your mom."

Yep I have always found this to be true. We have the friendliest and most helpful community it MMORPG. I have never really tried "WOW" but have heard horror stories about being foolish enough to ASK a question in broadcast. You spend 30 minutes being told exactly how stupid you are and call things that make Noob seem like a compliment. Here not only will someone answer your question but usually it more like 2, 3 or more and if anyone left out one tidbit of info .. someone else added it.
Were always the good guys. In D&D, were lawful good. In City of Heroes were the heroes. In Grand Theft Auto we pay the prostitutes promptly and never hit them with a bat. Leonard
Those women are prostitutes? You said they were raising money for stem cell research! Sheldon

Have tried other MMOs. Have only stayed here.
Always nice to see there is still an influx of people uncovering this treasure that was hiding in plain sight for neigh on to 7 years.
Welcome home. This was my first and only MMO I will admit to playing. In my eyes, nothing comes even close to holding my interest as this shiny pearl in pebbles does. Don't just scratch the surface, dig in with both hands (and feet and tails if they are prehensile.) and revel in what I consider the elite of the gaming world. It's not our quantity that is measured, it is our quality. Come for the scenery, stay for the cookies!

MY FAREWELL GIFT
It is never truly gone, as long as there is someone left to remember.
What I love about this game, other than what has already been stated, is how it caters to alt-aholism. With the hundreds of power set combinations I always feel unique on a team. Unlike other MMOs where I feel like an exact clone of everyone else playing as whatever class I chose.

...sorry, I went away for a second. Welcome to the game, OP! This was my first MMO as well, and the only one I've really played at all. I've tried a Certain Other superbeing MMO, and all it did was make me LOL. We've been blessed with a dev team who lately has been giving us, the players, everything we've been asking for in the past 7 years. By now it must be a bit daunting to get into such an old game (I thought so and I started shortly after the first year!), but there'll always be plenty of help.
"You don't lose levels. You don't have equipment to wear out, repair, or lose, or that anyone can steal from you. About the only thing lighter than debt they could do is have an NPC walk by, point and laugh before you can go to the hospital or base." -Memphis_Bill
We will honor the past, and fight to the last, it will be a good way to die...
Thank you. The community is great and it's the type of game where people would actually respond to you when you enter an LFT/LFM message on broadcast. Most MMORPGs don't have that.

Welcome to the game.

76 characters and Twenty-four 50s later, I still love this game.

Some of us have been here so long we're practically fixtures in the city.
I welcome you! I welcome you to the City of Heroes!

And of all of them, it has the best community IMO - sure, I get dogpiled for some of my viewpoints from time to time, but compared to other communities it's a far less vicious dogpiling.

Yup I keep trying other MMOs but always end up back here.
Reminds me need to cancel my subscription to the latest fantasy based MMO, while it isn't bad...just not feeling it.
Out of my group of friends I am the designated MMO tester, I try all the new MMOs at they come on the market and provide my friends with feedback.
90% of the time I usually have a very hard time recommending them or I really like them but there's just something inherently wrong with it that stops it being enjoyable (APB looking at you...you could have been awesome...but you were meh).
That and I have Blood Bowl: Legendary Edition to be playing (single player and multiplayer) which draws me in.
I'm not sure if "jump into the group and smash buttons" is much on strategy, but welcome to CoH none the less!

First off, welcome to the Community! We're glad to have you and Beastyle will be by with the welcome casserole eventually.
Secondly, just looking at the responses in this thread is a great example of what's so awesome about the CoH Community. While critical at times, we are, for the most part , some of the most helpful, friendly and occasionally hilarious folks you'll ever find this side of the intarwebs.

To summarize what I think about this game in one sentence, it will be...
It is the one game that has the one thing I've been looking for in MMORPGs.
It is very group-oriented, very strategy-based and has the type of combat gameplay that really makes you feel engaged like in Guild Wars.
I know this is a short post, but I want to start a discussion about what you people think of the game so far. Praises and criticisms are more than welcome.
